Chapter 137 Lucy
Chapter 137 Lucy
Sparkle
Of all places I could end up, Lucy’s place was never on my radar. I mean, what are the odds? My heart sank to the lowest parts of my stomach as I watched her gloat over how I had walked into a trap she hadn’t even set for me. But all hope wasn’t lost yet; if I used my mind critically, I could get out of this situation unscathed; I could even rally Lucy to my side again.
“Yes, as you can see, I am obviously pregnant.” I sarcastically replied, “Lucy, please help me.”
She hissed, “Anyone in this world but you.”
“Okay, fine. Thanks for opening the door though.” I replied, attempting to leave, but she stopped me.
“Come to think of it, where have you been? Where are you coming from at this time of the night?” She asked as I tried to walk away.
“There’s no sense in talking about this with you; you’re not going to help me anyway,” she followed as I tried to walk away,
“Is that Dalton’s pup?” She asked out of the blue, which made me chuckle. “Who else would it be?” I queried her, trying not to sound offended.
“You deserve all the bad things that have happened to you, Sparkle; you pretended to be my friend! Is this how you treat your friends?”
“Come on, girl, I pushed Dalton away many times out of respect for you, and guess what? He came back every single time. I did you a favor; I saved you from a wolf that doesn’t want you.” I replied with a grin on my face, which seemed to infuriate her.
I was beginning to feel pain in my knees and my abdomen. I clutched my abdomen and shut my eyes tightly.
“Not that I care, but are you okay?” She asked with a shaky voice.
“No, the pup is becoming heavier than my body can carry, and it’s getting painful. Every day that I spend away from home is a risk to my life and that of Dalton’s pup.” I tried to push Dalton into that sentence because I knew she wasn’t going to feel bad for me, but once she was reminded that the pup was Dalton’s child too, she would have some on me. “Dalton has been through so much ever since I met him. I want him to be at least happy. Missing the birth of his pup will drive him crazy, and losing the pup will kill him.”
I dragged my huge self off her front steps, and she grabbed my hand to stop me. “You know what? I will take you back to the pack, and it’s not because of you or Dalton; I’m doing this because of the pup.” I let out a sigh of relief as she rushed inside. She came back with a bunch of keys, including her car keys,
“Stand here; I will bring the car so you can get in easily.” As she dashed for her garage, I let out a sigh of relief. I knew the battle wasn't over yet; Lucy can be unstable sometimes; there’s no telling what she'll do next.
She helped me get in the backseat, and we began the drive to the Rouge Moon pack. I soon noticed that we had been at the Ice Moon pack all along. I let out another sigh of relief when we left the borders of that pack. Now James can go to hell for all I care, but he’s clever for hiding me here; nobody would have thought to search for me here.
“Come to think of it, Sparkle, how did you end up here?” She asked out of the blue. I held my tongue and tried to come up with a story that would exclude James. I was still afraid that she might change her mind, and mentioning what James did would make it even worse. She would be reminded of his existence and get funny ideas about teaming up with him to keep Dalton and me apart. I did another quick search in my mind and came up with a story,
“After the ceremony, Dalton and I got separated. Dalton made his driver take me away to keep me safe, but unfortunately, we crashed, and I ended up somewhere; he also ended up elsewhere. Honestly, I don’t remember much of what happened because I found myself wandering, then I passed out and woke up somewhere in the woods. A few days later I tried to find my way back to the Rouge Moon pack and found myself here instead."
“That sounds so tiring. Why didn’t you call your parents or Dalton?”
“I had lost my memory at one point, suffered some injuries, and kept slipping in and out of consciousness for a while.” I narrated.
The car went silent; perhaps she was feeling bad for me, which was good. Now was the time to get her to get so emotional she would drive me faster into Dalton’s arms.
“I saw on the news that Dalton finally defeated his uncle, and I’m so proud of him. Dalton has suffered so much; this is all he ever wanted. I almost lost this pup, but I only held on for Dalton’s sake. Now that you’ve saved me, I feel like he will be indebted to you forever.”
“Dalton?” She asked, slightly doubtful,
“Yes. He’s been anticipating the birth of his pup since he knew of his existence, and I know he is losing his mind as we’ve lost touch for a while now. You can imagine his joy if he knows what you’re doing for us.” I replied.
“Maybe he will hate me a lot less.” She muttered.
“He doesn’t hate you,” I quickly interjected. “he just didn’t like that you couldn’t accept the broken bond; he also couldn’t accept what you did with Ronald, because they’re sworn enemies.”
“Yes! About that issue, how did he even know? You told him about me, and Ronald didn’t, you? It must be you because I told you only.” She came at me, but I quickly deflected it,
“No, it was Ronald. I never said anything to Dalton; he was talking about all your escapades to him just to spite him,”
“Oh,” she screamed. I guess she never thought Ronald had a mouth too. How relieving it was to get her to stop blaming me for everything.
“Hhhmm, I wonder if I will ever get over Dalton, I’ve loved him all my life even before I knew him.” She muttered and as much as I felt bad for her I wasn’t ready to give him up for her.
“Remember I told you I was married before right?” I said.
“I remember,”
“I thought I would never love again after the marriage fell apart. I wanted babies, I wanted him but none of that happened. I could never even get pregnant.” I recounted my experience to her.
“And now you have Dalton’s mark,” she somberly said.
“You will love Lucy again, even deeper than you did with Dalton. You will meet someone better, like I did.”
“No one’s better than Dalton,” she argued.
“True.” I agreed as we burst into laughter.
