Chapter 131 Emergency wedding
Chapter 131 Emergency wedding
Lucy
By 8 AM, my things were packed, and I sat beside my mother at the garage of the pack house waiting for Ronald’s convoy to show up. Initially, my family disagreed with my self-sacrifice, but I assured them that I had a plan. I also made them understand that it was better for me to go than for a war to erupt in our pack and cause many casualties.
“But it will be better to lose the pack than to lose you,” my father argued,
“Dad, he won’t harm me in any way, but if I refuse to go, everyone will be harmed,” I remember assuring him, but deep down I was uncertain as to how this was going to end. Ronald didn’t promise not to hurt me; I was only counting on the little benevolence he had.
“It’s so hard watching you sacrifice yourself like this,” my mother said, breaking her silence by saying.
“It may look like a sacrifice now, but Mom, I promise you that this time I will bring Ronald down for real.”
“Don’t even try it! We don’t even know if he forgives you for the first one, but if he does, I don’t think trying it for the second time will help the situation.” She scolded me.
“That’s why I won’t fail this time,” I insisted.
“Lucy, if you've decided to go back there, please don’t try anything stupid. Do you think he will let his guard down? You have to understand that he’s only with you for political reasons, so don’t try to play hero or anything else; he won’t let you live.”
I understood her viewpoint, but I know that Ronald loves me more than he would care to admit, so there’s no way he would do me any harm.
The chief housekeeper tumbled in looking anxious, “The Alpha is here.” He announced. I immediately shot to my feet and watched as Beatrice dragged my bags out of the garage. My mother gave me a long-lasting hug as we both shed tears, then I waved her goodbye.
I gently climbed into the back of the limo as the door was already open. I was expecting to see Ronald in the back despite not smelling him at all, but he wasn’t there. I sat down quietly and waited for us to get to the Rouge Moon pack house, and there he was at the balcony, beaming with smiles and throwing his airs around.
“You’re welcome home!” He proudly announced as I stepped out of the limo. I looked up at him but didn’t say a word; I only waited to be escorted inside and stood in the parlor waiting for him to meet us downstairs. I could hear his anxious footsteps rushing down the stairs, which made my stomach tie up in knots. The mere thought of seeing his face next to mine in bed drove me crazy, and with every step he took towards me, I held back the urge to throw up in his face.
“I want everyone here to cheer for our new luna for her exemplary dedication to the pack…”
The door flung open before he could land; everyone’s attention was drawn to the exit, trying to figure out why it opened so aggressively. Leonardo walked in with a serious look on his face. “What’s the occasion? He casually remarked when he noticed the assembly in the parlor. His eyes met mine, and I guess he understood immediately.
“Ronald, this is no time for a mating ceremony?” He tried to whisper, but we could all hear him.
“She just arrived, and this is her introduction. The mating ceremony will take place in 3 days, then the swearing-in ceremony continues from there.” I could hear him pathetically explaining to Leonardo.
“No, you don’t get it. Can we talk privately?” I heard Leonardo trying hard not to argue with him in front of the staff and me.
“Just say it here because they’re going to know anyway.” Ronald nonchalantly responded. Leonardo nodded and I think I could even see a smirk on his face, “Today we searched the ravines, the stream, and the valley, and Dalton’s remains are nowhere to be found. I don’t think he died.”
The room went dead silent. You could hear the blood running through our veins. I stared at Ronald, trying to get a reaction from him. He knows that if Dalton is alive, then he will remain a threat to the position he has fought so hard to achieve, and not just the position but his life.
“Did you check in the pile of snow? He could have been buried in it, or someone found his body and buried it.” As he spoke, Leonardo kept shaking his head and disagreeing with everything.
“We didn’t even smell him.” He replied.
Ronald stared at the assembly this time with much seriousness. “You’re all dismissed.” The little crowd quickly dispersed, and just when I was about to join them, Ronald signaled me to stop.
“You don’t get to move an inch; remain here.” I wanted so much to disobey him, but I was afraid that he would take his frustrations out on me. My heart raced as I stood there staring at him; my mind couldn’t bear the weight of being there and not doing anything. I wanted to call Dalton and warn him. I wanted to tell him that I could be his ally since I’m in the pack house. I wanted to help him in any way that I could, and I guess that’s why Ronald was keeping me here. I could have contacted him over the mind link, but after we fell out, that link also fell out. If you’re not in an Alpha’s good graces, contacting him over a mind link is the most difficult thing to do.
“Leonardo, you know it snowed. The air is crisp, and it can trouble your nose sometimes and numb the sensors in your nose. Maybe that’s why you couldn’t smell him.”
“I wish that was the problem, but unfortunately that’s not it. I couldn’t smell all the wolves who were next to me and even the rogues hiding in the woods but I couldn’t smell Dalton! That should tell you something.”
Ronald began to growl and pace the parlour as I tried my best not to stare at him. Leonardo looked as disturbed as him.
“You know what?” Ronald suddenly stopped and asked. We all waited eagerly for what he had to say.
“Tell the caterers and the designers to prepare for my mating ritual tonight.”
Both Leonardo and I looked horrified by that statement. “Tonight?” I finally spoke for the first time.
“Yes, tonight without a mate I can’t be crowned, and if I am not crowned, Dalton will remain Alpha if he returns.” He firmly explained.
“And is that the best option?” Leonardo tried to argue,
“Yes, Leo, unless you have a better suggestion?”
Leonardo couldn’t say a word, which made Ronald smirk. “I thought as much; now help me. I will do my part tonight, and yours is to make sure Dalton never shows up here.”
My world fell apart as I helplessly observed him.
