Chapter 125 Sandwich
Chapter 125 Sandwich
Dalton
Day 8 of the war, and now the snow has made everything much worse. What irks me is my inability to capture Ronald and bring him to book. Every single day that I wake up without Sparkle by my side builds up my anger towards Ronald. First it was my parents, then he tried to take the company, and now my mate! Where does this end?
I was angrily pacing the study room in the pack house when Edmund returned. He wore a grim expression, and I immediately knew there was bad news.
“Man, talk to me.” I said to him, “Did you hear anything about him?”
“At this point, he’s either dead or avoiding you because those are the only options that make sense,” Edmund replied. My heart fell right into my belly. The person we are talking about here is James. He set out to search for sparkle after we had spoken and he had agreed to do it, but suddenly he went missing in action, and I don’t know what to think. I sent different people to his residence, and they all returned with the same response: James is not there.
My mind started to take a wild jog down the gutters. I have a weird feeling he knows where Sparkle is and he’s intentionally keeping the truth from me. At the same time, I don’t want to get ahead of myself; I truly want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but an alpha has his limits.
“You didn’t find him either, did you?”
“Of course I didn’t; his servants say he’s been out all week and hasn’t reached out to anyone.” Edmund narrated.
My heart was racing; I feared something had happened to Sparkle, and in James’ search for her, something had happened to him too. I couldn’t tell what the truth was anymore, and now I had to find out for myself.
“Edmund. If I ever left the fort for you, can you hold it down?” I resolutely asked.
“I can, but if you die, there’s no heir to succeed you, and I won’t be allowed to hold the fort for that long. So please don’t do anything stupid, Dalton.” He started to plead with me even before I revealed my plans to him.
“I can’t abandon the woman carrying my heir. If I can’t protect her, then I am unfit to be the alpha of this pack.”
“I can go after them if you want. Please stay here and focus on catching Ronald.”
“No!” I howled at him and went to grab my keys from the key rack. He didn’t try to stop me. He only watched as I trotted out of the house. I drove into the snow into the snowstorm and began to wonder if my car would survive it. The car could have skidded off the road several times if not for the competent winter tyres I got not long ago. The storm didn’t look friendly, but how can I give up on my search when Sparkle is still out there somewhere, suffering?
I kept going on my journey till I was at the spot where Sparkle and I parted ways. I parked the car and got out. This time I tried to make my nose do the work; maybe if I sniffed a little harder, my nose would lead me to where she was hiding.
As I was investigating her trail, my phone started to ring. Though irritated, I answered the call from an unsaved number.
“Hello, this is Majorie Walter. Am I speaking to Dalton Roux?”
At first I thought this was one of those super fan moments where they guess your number, call you, and then try to get autographs or something, but on second thought, I decided to respond to this one because it sounded urgent.
“Yes, it’s me.”
“Great. So my husband and I found an injured lady in a suit; we took her in…”
Injured lady? Oh my goodness, that’s Sparkle!
“Where is she?”
“Well, we took her in and nursed her back to health until a man claiming to be her fiancé came for her.”
“Fiancé? That’s my wife. Sparkle is my wife!”
“We drove them to the Hans Motel and got back home before we noticed this card in the pocket of the suit.” The woman explained.
That must be James! It was not his intention to find Sparkle and bring her back home; he was planning to keep her to himself, and what is he planning to do to my pup? Get rid of it?
“Please, Majorie, was this woman by any chance pregnant?” I asked to be sure the woman was indeed Sparkle.
“Yes, she was. I’m sure she still is.”
“Thank you for the update! It means a lot to me.” I profusely thanked her before quickly hanging up. I ran uphill towards the thicket, planning to use that as my exit. As I was ascending the hill, I felt a sharp sting in my calf and lost my balance and came tumbling down the ravine.
I was slowly trying to regain my balance when I saw a pair of heavy boots moving up to me. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought it was a hunter’s boot, but that was Ronald. It sucks that he found me first.
I could have gotten up, but I chose to lie down and make him think that he had won. So with one last try, I pretend to fall flat on my belly and maintain that position.
“Pathetic,” I heard him exclaim as he got closer and closer. “Imagine what will happen when I take your head back to the pack?
He must be out of his mind if he thinks I would let him do that. I was just waiting for him to get close enough, so I gave him a taste of his own medicine, but he stopped getting close and tried to pull the trigger. That was when I pounced on him and wrestled him till he lost balance and his gun.
Then I pointed it at him, but before I could fire, he was already on his feet. He took to his heels while I chased after him. I was determined to put an end to the madness once and for all. I have finally run out of mercy and patience; it’s time to handle things the way he handles things: with violence!
I kept chasing him till I heard shots behind me. I slowed down the pace and craned my neck only to catch a glimpse of Leonardo! My uncle’s beta! Now I felt ambushed. Ronald was intentionally leading me into a trap; his gun wasn’t even that loaded, but I had backup under my sleeve; I just needed a minute to take it out and work with it.
As I looked behind me, Leonardo was steadily approaching, and when I looked ahead, Ronald was charging at me now. They both had unleashed their weapons and were ready to sandwich me. I had to think fast because they came at top speed, allowing no time to at least brace myself for this big match.
