Chapter 120
Lillian
Aiden had rejected my visit twice, he was making it hard for me to keep my promise to Zayden.
I don't know if he was overly weighed down with guilt or if he simply still hates my existence. Anyway, today was another day to try again.
This would be the last time that I would come here, and if he still refuses to see me, then I'm giving up on him.
To my surprise, he accepted, and I was led to the visitation room that had a glass wall dividing my box from his.
I guess that's how chronic criminals were kept. Aiden was brought in a minute later and the first thing I did was take in his features. He looked the same only that he had grown thick beards and had a few scars on his face.
Why do prisoners even grow beards?
It must have been tough there for him. He sat on the other side and picked up the telephone.
I spoke first." It's been a while Aiden."
He raised his eyes to meet mine, and for once, I saw the friend I had in him. The friend I thought I could confide in when things were rough for me.
" Yeah, it has." He responded.
" Why did you refuse to see me before?" I inquired and he fell silent.
I waited for a reply, but he didn't speak another word so I sighed and continued on the reason I was there.
" You must have known what happened this last year, right?"
He nodded, a small pained smile appearing on his face." Yeah, about how my father, who isn't my real father, killed my mother and made me believe that it was my brother and then I hated him my whole life. If that's it then sure, I know everything."
I shook my head. I felt pity for him. Malo was the cause of the whole conflict, so it wasn't entirely his fault, but still, he should have done better.
" Zayden asked me to check up on you."
He chuckled." What a caring big brother. He has never checked up on me before."
I released a sigh." That's because you weren't on good terms with him back then."
He didn't respond to that, and we both remained silent, avoiding eye contact.
It was becoming awkward.
" Look, whatever issue you have is past okay. But that doesn't mean your actions are; I'm sorry to break it to you, but I'm not dropping charges against you because I lost someone that day; a wife lost her husband, and a child lost her father all because of you." I finished with a huff.
He chuckled darkly; he didn't seem like he was remorseful at all." Is that why you came here? To remind me that I'm spending the rest of my life here?" he growled.
I nearly rolled my eyes." I only came to check up on you. Zayden doesn't want you to be lonely and whether you like it or not, he now cares for you."
The expression on his face tightened, and for a moment, I saw regret and guilt in his eyes.
" I'll be coming back soon and next time, I want to see some remorse on your face," I spoke harshly and moved to take my leave.
He called me back, gritting his teeth." I'm sorry...for everything that I did to you."
I stood there watching him for a few moments, I still wasn't convinced that he was genuinely remorseful.
" I'll see you soon Aiden." I blurted out and stepped out of the visitation room.
I went home straight, did I mention that I finally learnt how to drive? Well, I did.
I left Laura with Jade, she was familiar with her and wouldn't cry till whenever I returned. I walked into the house and a view welcomed me.
My baby girl was being taught how to read colours by her godmother.
" She's barely one, she probably can't even understand you." I chuckled at Jade as I dropped my handbag on the couch.
She got up immediately, leaving Laura sitting on the floor.
I picked up my daughter, cuddling her in my arms and putting aside the books.
" I don't care; I'm just so relieved you're back early; I'm leaving right now."
I rolled my eyes." I have to make dinner and you were supposed to help me."
She grabbed her purse and hoodie and struggled to put on her shoes." Dear Lilly, sorry, but my boyfriend is more important."
And just like that she disappeared to go after Oliver.
I shook my head as I put on some music. I put Laura in her crib and started preparing dinner, the music flooding my ears. My train of thoughts ran over so many things, from Zayden to my business to Jade, who had a confrontation with Nico.
She hadn't told me the whole story yet but Nico had started texting her and giving her calls like he wanted her back so suddenly. And then, one day, she bumped into him on the streets when she was taking a walk with Oliver.
He created a scene I don't know what happened after that apart from the fact that Jade was affected by Whatever thing he said, but she was pretending that she was okay.
I brought myself back to reality, and
It was only by sheer luck that I heard the door ring after an hour of deep frying.
I moved over to the door, wiping my hands on a napkin. I didn't bother checking to see who it was because I was in a hurry so I just punched the passcode and opened the door.
My heart stopped as I remained rooted to the ground. At first, it was like my mind was playing tricks on me until I blinked multiple times.
I stepped backwards, my hands trembling slightly as goosebumps crawled up on my skin.
Why is he here?
He should be locked in the deepest part of the prison, so why?
My chest heaved up and down as my breathing became unsteady. Tears prickled at the corner of my eyes.
This can't be happening!
It must be a dream.
Because he shouldn't be here in the skin.
Why?
Why is this happening? My lips quivered as I stared ahead, the worst part was that he wasn't even alone.
How is this even possible!
