Chapter 113

Zayden

The Present...

Just a little longer, I'll allow that godforsaken lawyer to exhaust all accusations against me first.

Oliver and I exchanged glances and a small smile appeared on my lips. He tapped my lawyer beside him and whispered something into his ears.

I flexed my muscles relaxing further into the cushion.

I have a confession to make!

I know I made my story sound so sad, hopeless and all that shit, but it was all a ruse.

Just hear me out ...

Four days ago, Oliver had set up the camera and bugs in the manor at Brigantine.

There was no telling where we would meet so he installed cameras in all corners of the house.

How did I know he would take me to Brigantine?

Well, it was pretty simple, and all thanks to my wife and Oliver.

God! I don't know what I'll do without that woman.

She told me almost a week back that one of the officers owed her a favour because she risked her life to get Tyrell arrested and so she struck a deal with him with the help of Oliver.

But that officer was the same one that got me arrested and he might not even honour the favour except if some cash was attached.

It was fifty-fifty because we weren't sure if my father would fall for it or not, but fortunately for us, he did.

So, in more detail, my father wanted to make me feel miserable and hopeless, so he coerced Officer Thane with the sum of ten million dollars just to bring me to Brigantine.

That bastard cop hit a jackpot, getting money both from Oliver and my father.

I already had the idea that he might say something sensitive so we had the house wired just in case.

And so we got the whole thing recorded, and even better, the officers got to hear first-hand how he confessed. So that was enough proof that the footage wasn't fabricated.

Malo's lawyer kept ranting on and on, displaying several photos of me, and I just sat back, enjoying the show.

When he was done, he returned back to his seat and my lawyer was called forward to defend.

He didn't utter a word and just asked permission to play video footage.

He started by saying." This video that is about to be played was taken just yesterday after Mr Malo Kent requested an impromptu transport of my client to Brigantine for a supposed confession."

The crowd roared again and the judge hit his gavel on the desk loudly.

My lawyer pressed the play button and the video started. The audio echoed throughout the room. The video was almost an hour long, but it felt like just a few minutes as everyone listened to my father's narration.

I shifted my gaze to him to capture his expression. He was staring at the screen, his face as pale as a hungry vampire.

Loren scooted away from him a little, don't blame him, he was just being cautious.

I can't wait for all these to be broadcast tomorrow on TV and as for Aiden...I'll think about him later.

Lillian was already sobbing quietly; we were finally going to get our deserved victory.

I can't wait to get out of here and hold her in my hands again. I want to hold my daughter too.

The video ended when I was strangling him, and the courtroom fell silent.

The judge's gaze went over to my father, who was sitting in the front row of chairs, looking like he was about to pass out.

What was he going to say to this now?

" Mr Malo Kent. Is that you in that video clip." The judge asked, his voice echoing in the room.

My father didn't reply, he was just staring into space like he had just lost his brains.

The judge made a signal and the officers that stood guard moved forward.

The moment my father caught sight of them he jerked to his feet.

The officers paused in their steps and then my father turned to face me. " You sneaky little piece of shit! I can't say I was surprised, you once again surpassed my expectations, Zayden."

I shrugged, arrogance making my head swell." What can I say? I'm better than you."

He looked over the crowd and then to the judge." There's no use denying it, eh?"

My lawyer spoke up." You can't even if you tried because we have eyewitnesses."

He chuckled, nodding his head as his eye scanned the building." Alright then. Yes, I did it. I killed my wife and pinned it on him." He spoke pointing at me.

He stepped out of his seat and came to stand in the middle of the courtroom. From my observation, he just lost his nuts.

" I stole my wife's company and made it mine then I murdered her in cold blood. Zayden was just lucky that he didn't die because I wanted him gone too !" His voice had increased now, and so did his hysterical movements.

The officers had to move forward and restrain him. Then, right there and there, he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour.

Finally, it had been lifted off my shoulders. The guilt, the memories and the pain. I can now be free of it knowing that my mother got the justice that she deserved and I had been able to clear my name.

Let's see what those people who called me a monster have to say now.

But unfortunately, it wasn't over yet.

" You have been freed of all allegations made against you, Zayden Kent, but the charges made by the authorities still remain."

I swallowed, here comes my sentence.

I silently prayed that I get bail because I didn't break out of prison of my own accord; I had to help my wife.

" According to section 14 of the criminal code, assaulting the state authorities has a penalty of five years imprisonment and then breaking out of prison has a penalty of five years which all amounts to ten years imprisonment." The judge hit his gavel on the desk.

" I hereby sentence you to ten years imprisonment with hard labour and no option to bail."

Jesus Christ!

My face drained of all colours as I just sat there, my blood thrumming loudly in my ears.

God no...no...no...no!

I looked from the judge to Lillan. Her eyes were already brimming with tears as she stared back at me.

My hands trembled at the thought of me staying away from her that long.

My heart was beating rapidly as I took in the reality of my sentence, I don't think I can handle it.

I can't wait ten years.

It's too much, what about Lillian and my daughter.

I wouldn't get to see her grow,I won't get to see all her firsts.

I wouldn't get to see her take her first step or her first laugh , her first tooth, her first word ,I wouldn't even get to see her first smile.

I don't think I can handle it.
