Chapter 53 You Are Not Seeing Him Again

Chapter 53 You Are Not Seeing Him Again

Evelyn’s POV

Lorenzo stiffened, his fingers barely holding his phone. For a moment his jaw locked so tight I could see the muscle twitch near his ear.

Logan blinked in surprise when he noticed me, but the shock lasted only a second before his mouth stretched into a devilish smirk.

“You got to be kidding me,” Lorenzo blurted.

Then he turned to me.

“Evelyn.” His voice thinned, full of disbelief. “Did you plan this too?”

My heart dropped. “Wait….what? No!”

My eyes widened at the accusation. “I didn’t even know he’d be here. I had no idea I’d ever see him again.”

Lorenzo scoffed, shaking his head. “Beautiful lie.”

He didn’t even give me time to defend myself. With anger practically vibrating off him, he rose from his chair, chest heaving as he strode straight toward Logan like he was walking into a fight he had already decided to win.

Logan only smirked wider. His lips curled into a snarl, his shoulders squaring as he faced Lorenzo face to face. Their expressions hardened, sharp enough to cut through the air.

God. Not again.

I knew I had to stop them before Lorenzo did something reckless, something that would affect not just Logan but everyone present here today.

I hurried past Elena, who had been watching every drama with disgust flickering in her face, and pushed myself between the two men.

“You both need to stop,” I snapped, voice ragged from the rising panic clawing at my throat. “This is a hospital, for Christ’s sake.”

Logan didn’t even look at me. His eyes stayed locked on Lorenzo.

“No, sweetheart,” he drawled, leaning just slightly forward. “You need to chain your dog. I’m not the problem here.”

Lorenzo let out a sharp, bitter laugh. He dragged a hand through his hair, rough and frustrated. “Did you just call me a dog?”

“Yes,” Logan answered without hesitation. “That’s what you are.”

“Fine,” Lorenzo said in a cold whisper. “Then I’ll show you how a mad dog behaves.”

He reached for Logan’s collar, fingers curling, but I grabbed his wrist fast enough to stop him from anything he was planning on doing.

“Lorenzo, please,” I whispered, my voice cracking. “Not again.”

He froze. His fist stayed suspended in the air, trapped inside my grip. His breath came out harsh and heavy. Logan stood there, smirking like he had achieved some kind of victory simply by provoking him.

Lorenzo’s eyes narrowed at the sight.

“I promise you,” he said slowly, leaning just a little closer to Logan, “that smile won’t last.”

He growled deep in his chest before stepping back. He returned to his seat with sharp movements and dropped into it like it was the chair that offended him. But even seated, Lorenzo’s eyes stayed fixed on me, watchful, poised, jealous in a way that crawled under my skin.

Elena kept her distance, arms crossed tight, her expression twisted with disgust. She looked like she could kill Lorenzo with a single glare. But I didn’t have time to deal with emotions now. I had a job to do.

I took a deep breath and forced myself into professional mode.

“Follow me.” I instructed Logan, but as expected Lorenzo joined him.

We entered the Examining room and Lorenzo took a seat at the corner, eyes still on my every move.

Logan stepped closer to the exam bed, leaning on it like he owned it. His eyes trailed down my body before rising again, daring, amused.

“I hear I’m supposed to get a test done,” he said casually.

“That’s what your folder says,” I replied, keeping my voice flat and firm. “Sit down.”

He raised a brow, amused. “Order me around like that again, sweetheart, and I might start enjoying it.”

Elena cursed under her breath. She turned away, mumbling something that I doubt anyone grabbed.

I ignored both of them.

Behind me, I heard Lorenzo shift. His chair creaked from how tense he sat watching us, watching me, watching every breath Logan took.

I prepared the ultrasound gel and the handheld scanner, turning back to Logan with gloves snapped on.

“Lie back,” I instructed.

Logan obeyed, but with a smirk that suggested he thought he was doing me a favor. His shirt lifted slightly as he settled, revealing tattoos along his rib.

Lorenzo’s jaw clenched so hard I thought it might crack.

Focus, Evelyn.

I placed the gel onto Logan’s lower abdomen. He hissed dramatically at the cold.

“Relax,” I muttered.

“I’m relaxed,” he said. “You’re the one shaking.”

I wasn’t. But the smirk on his face told me he said it just to get a reaction.

I started moving the scanner across his skin, watching the screen, mentally checking off what needed to be done.

He kept staring at me instead of the ceiling.

Lorenzo’s breathing changed. Slow but heavy.
Possessive.

Controlled only by a thread and that scared me, the last thing that I ever wanted was Lorenzo causing any trouble for me here.

I’ve managed to use this job as my way of knowing how Daisy is doing, but I still need to see her with my own eyes. And that won’t happen if the management throws me out because Lorenzo can’t control himself.

I can’t even think straight anymore. How could the only person who means the world to me, my only family, be lying in a different hospital while I’m here pretending to focus on patients? I really thought Lorenzo would send me out with one of his men or at least give me some space so I could sneak away and see Daisy.

But no. Nothing is going the way I planned.

My hand moved lower on Logan’s waist and he chuckled. “Careful, sweetheart. Your boyfriend looks ready to tear my head off.”

“He’s not my….” I started, but Lorenzo cut me off.

“You are not permitted to engage in any conversation with him,” Lorenzo said, voice low enough to shake something in my chest. “

Logan smiled, amused, but quieted.

For a moment the room was painfully still except for the faint sound of the scanner and my own heartbeat thudding in my chest.

I finished the imaging, set aside the device, and wiped the gel off Logan’s skin.

“We’re done,” I said, stepping back. “I’ll schedule another appointment for further evaluation.”

“Hell No,” Lorenzo said instantly.

My head snapped toward him. “Excuse me?”

His eyes locked onto mine. Dark. Steady. Unmovable. “You’re not seeing him again.”

“It’s work,” I reminded him. “I don’t get to choose who walks in here.”

“You can choose him out,” Lorenzo bit back. “Someone else can see him next time.”

Logan laughed, low and mocking. “Come on, man. You sound just like a high school jealous boyfriend.”

Lorenzo ignored him completely. His focus was solely on me, sharp, consuming, territorial in a way he didn’t bother hiding.

“Evelyn,” he said slowly, “you’re not scheduling anything with this fool.”

My chest tightened, not in fear, but in defiance.
“I’m not asking for your permission,” I replied quietly.

His eyes narrowed. For a moment, neither of us moved. It felt like the room had compressed around us, trapping our breaths, our anger, our stubbornness.

But before the tension could break into something louder, Logan slid off the bed.

“Well,” he said, grabbing his jacket, “this has been fun. Let’s do it again sometime.”

“There is no next time,” Lorenzo growled.

“Oh,” Logan smirked badly.

Elena practically shoved him toward the door with her eyes.

He headed out, glancing back at me once more, long enough to annoy Lorenzo again, then finally disappeared down the hallway.

The door shut.

Silence filled the room.

It was just me and Lorenzo now.

Lorenzo stood slowly, pushing the chair back. His eyes didn’t leave me, not for a moment.

“You’re not seeing him again,” he repeated, quieter now but twice as dangerous.

I crossed my arms. “And I said it’s not your decision.”

A breath escaped him, a slow, heated exhale that sounded like he was holding back a storm.
