Chapter 30 Hunting
Lorenzo’s POV
He sat across the room with his arms spread wide on the massive sofa, expensive drinks scattered on his table, numerous women perching around him like houseflies as some danced naked before him while being sprayed with cash. His men stood at alert beside him, chest protruding, eyes moving.
I couldn’t help but laugh at his stupidity.
If only the old fool knew that today was going to be his last day.
My hand locked with Evelyn’s own as I led her to the VIP section. I noticed how much she wanted to resist, every need to break free from my grip held her still as I dragged her along without looking her way.
Richard stiffened the moment he saw me, half frozen, half terrified.
My pace slowed immediately as I entered, a dark smirk lingering at the corner of my upper lip. “Don’t be afraid, my friend.” My voice echoed through the loud music, enough for anyone who cares to hear.
He straightened up, sitting at the edge of the cushion. “Lucifer….” He called out, brittle, breakable. Like he was scared of the name itself.
I leaned close to Evelyn, crossing my arm around her waist. “Don’t move unless I say so.” I whispered.
I didn’t let her digest the words before I moved away from her crossing the table where the women now stood still watching in a shaky breath.
“Richard Watson.”
He shifted, nerves coiling tight inside as sweat slicked his skin while he fumbled with his tie.
“What….what brought you here?”
I drew my brow together, grinning deadly. “Did I hear you well?” I leaned forward, enough for only him to hear. “You owe me, old man.”
He swallowed so hard that I heard the sound amidst the loud noise from the speakers.
“I…..it’s time already?”
I burst out into a cruel laughter, throwing my head sideways. “Of course old man….were you thinking you will dine with the devil on the same table, with his fork and expect him to forget just like that?”
“So soon….?” The words trembled out of him, laced with fear.
I gave him a pitiful glance, mocking. “Yes man.”
He rose to his feet and I followed his eyes.
“Please, please. Don’t kill me yet.” He pleaded. “Give me another year, just one.”
“I have families to look after….name your price. Any amount.”
Hell.
I almost gave up laughing.
The same man that dragged his pathetic, reached self to me. Pleading, demanding that I help him with wealth is now asking me to take money as a reward instead of his life that he first made a deal with.
I could remember how he came crawling to me, listing out his generational problem and how much he was ready to give anything just to see that his family got everything they wished for.
But what baffles me is that this motherfucker did not even spend a penny of the money on his family. I heard that after he had gotten rich, he divorced his wife and refused to take responsibility for his children. Well, that was none of my business. All I knew was, once the moment of payment arrives that I must take what belongs to me.
I slowly circled him, towering him. This time he was on his knees, head lifted to meet me, hands pressed together, begging for something that he knew was not possible.
“Richard….you should know this before now.” My tone dropped, husky. “Lucifer does not joke with his bargain.”
“Please, just a few years. Please.”
Before I could realize it, the animal had signaled his men into action.
They all lifted their guns, pointing straight at me. A metallic chorus of clicks echoed through the room. Sharp, merciless, drawing every eye in our direction. People began whispering in fear. The women who had been entertaining Richard clutched at their dresses, panic flashing in their eyes, and within seconds, most of them bolted for the exits. Only a few remained, those whom I guess were used to being around places where gunfights were being displayed.
I scoffed. “You are now going to fight me, huh?”
Richard lowered his head in guilt. “You gave me no option.”
“Did I hear you well?” I leaned over to him, my harsh breath brushing his face. “Richard, I gave you thousands of options. I always do. I told you to go back and reflect on your decision, but you pleaded with me to go ahead.”
I trailed my thumb on his jawline. “And now you are talking of option?”
“Fuck!” I dragged my fingers on my hair, paced around before meeting his men’s eyes.
Their jaws locked, fingers curling firm on the metal, like it will take nothing for them to put the trigger on my skull.
I should be scared for my life right now, but I wasn’t. Not for me. I was only bothered because I knew Evelyn was around and they might harm her.
The last thing I wished was for a scratch to touch her.
Richard stood on his feet, a wicked smirk tugged at his face. “Lorenzo, I’m sorry but I guess this will be your end.”
My eyes widened. Did he just address me by my name?
It is only a few that did that. I guess something must be beating a drum that he is confidently dancing to right now and I need to find out.
Richard laughed, throwing himself around like some kind of high God. “Oh, my friend. Don’t be surprised.” He moved forward. “We all had the news. We all know that you are now a weakling”
“I have been looking forward to this day, and thankfully it came faster than I thought.” He added.
My chest tightened. It is now clear that everyone knows about my predicament and they are all working towards fighting me.
He stood chest to chest with me, looking straight to my face. My dark, daring eyes that were once feared by all. And now, the same little Richered I once helped when he had nothing…. was staring right into them.
With the corner of my eyes I caught how scared Evelyn was, her lips quivering with words she was fighting to bite back. Then, my head moved back to Richard’s men.
I was only calculating my chances of crossing the room to get to Evelyn before they do. My legs moved sideways, slow but steady. Eyes on Richard as he kept on blabbing nonsense on how he had been planning on executing me.
In one quick speed I reached to where Evelyn stood, her hands coiled on my arms wrapping around me. I shielded her.
“Lorenzo….” She trembled.
“It’s fine I’m here now, they won’t touch you.”
I faced Richard, my eyes burning with anger.
He squinted his eyes, confusion flickering across his face. “What?” He laughed dryly. “You finally got yourself a woman.”
“Shut the fuck up!” I gritted through my teeth, clenching my jaw
“Oh, Lorenzo. You should be begging me to spare your life, not acting like a hero in front of a woman.”
“Really?” I laughed. “Because I think you should be the one begging now.”
He squirmed, tilting his head with a horrible laughter.
I reached for Evelyn’s shoulders, shoving her hard to chase fear away from her. “Eve, look at me.” I gave her a soft tap, she flinched and fought to focus on me, breaths shaky.
“I need you to do as I say.”
She gave me a weak nod, shaking.
I hissed, she was acting weak and that's not good for what is about to happen right now. “Eve," I shoved her aggressively. "we have to do something or his men will end us both.”
I was not done when I heard his orders.
“Kill him!” Richard backed his commanded.
Evelyn’s breath hitched, eyes widened in fear as she stood frozen, lost in the middle of action.
I shoved her again. “Eve, touch me!” She struggled to stabilize herself, nodding profusely.
Without thinking further, she slid her hands like every other time, Richard and his men stopped. Taking turns to stare at each other in surprise. I felt Evelyn’s hand beneath my skin and in a short while, a supernatural energy begin to hover around me, fire cracking in my fingers, blazing from my eyes threatening to tear off my pupil.
My body went still like rock, power rushed through me, burning in my veins.
The air cracked.
I stretched out my fingers, pointing it at Richard and his men. In a short distance they were all set ablaze, their screams tore through the air as fire climbed their bodies, bright and wild.
Everyone scattered, running in every direction. Nobody dared to look back. The air filled with noise, shouts, crashing footsteps, the raw sound of fear tearing through the crowd.
Evelyn shivered, her hand slipping in and off like she was scared to be this close to me.Richard and his men were now turned to ashes.
The entire club died, just the loud music, Evelyn and me.
Finally, Evelyn yanked away her hand. She kept stepping back one after the other like she has seen a real life beast.
“Evelyn!" I tried to explain. "You don’t have to run from me. Just be calm.”
