Chapter 22 Finding Out He Is Immortal

Chapter 22 Finding Out He Is Immortal

Evelyn’s POV

Gideon did not answer, at least not immediately. His broad shoulders squared, like he was holding back a sacred secret.

“Please, talk to me.” I moved closer.

He forced a smile. “She’s just Lucifer’s student. You shouldn’t worry about her.”

I went silent. I knew there was more to it. If she was just a student to Lorenzo, I didn’t think she would be acting that almighty.

“Gideon,” I pressed further.

He took a step back.

My shoulders eased, my voice dropping low, just enough for him to believe anything I was going to say.
“Don’t you think I deserve to know the people around me? I can’t continue living here as a stranger. Please, tell me something.”

Gideon brushed the tip of his nose with a knuckle and sucked in a long breath.

“Ms. Martins, there’s a lot of mystery surrounding this place. For you to survive here, you have stay humble and do whatever you’re asked to do without questions.”

“Please…..” I shoved his advice off.

“If you insist on knowing, I’ll tell you everything.”

He moved around the room, the soles of his shoes tapping rhythmically against the marble floor, while I stood behind him, ready to listen.

“Lucifer isn’t called the devil for no reason,” he continued. “He’s an immortal who has been in existence for years.”

My heart slammed against my ribs, each beat louder than the last. I had thought all along that he was only parading himself as one, but now it was clear. His ability to possess spiritual powers, while people worshipped and feared him… it all made sense now.

“Lucifer found Kim five hundred years ago, when her abusive father would get drunk, come home, and hit her for no reason.” He walked toward the shelf side. “That night, Lucifer was coming back from hunting when he heard the cry of a little girl in a forest. He followed the sound, and it led him to Kim. Ever since then, Lucifer has kept her as a student, teaching her dancing.”

He paused briefly before continuing.

“As for me,” he said, “Lucifer found me seven hundred years ago, when I was dying of hunger, with no one to offer me a single grain to eat. That night, a deadly pandemic had swept through our village. I was alone…..no family, no friends, no one left to even say my name. But when he found me, he revived me with his power and took me in. From that moment, I swore to give him my loyalty, my strength, and even my soul if he asked for it. Because when the world abandoned me, he was the only one who reached out his hand not as a savior of light, but as the only truth that remained in the darkness.”

I didn’t blink. Gideon’s words cut deep inside me. I never would have believed that someone like Lorenzo could actually save people. I had thought he was the type who derived joy from destroying lives.

“People call him evil. A monster. The devil,” Gideon continued. “But how can I hate the one who taught my heart to beat again?”

He turned toward me. “How can I betray the only being who looked at me, not as a burden to be burned, but as something worth saving?”

He came closer, lifting his gaze to me, his eyes warm and unblinking. “So yes, I follow Lucifer. Not because I’m bound by fear, but because gratitude has become the blood that runs in my veins.”

I didn’t even realize when he was done. I was deep in thought, at least someone had something good to say about Lorenzo. I grew up hearing worse things about him, how he burned people alive. But not once had anyone told me anything good about him.

“What the hell are you two doing here?”

Lorenzo’s voice jolted me out of my thoughts.

He stood at the doorway in a perfectly tailored black suit, his skin glowing as though it had just been pulled fresh from the oven. My mouth fell open at the sight of him.

Gosh. That sugar-daddy charm, straight out of a Hollywood flick. It only made me fantasize about him, even though I still hate him.

Gideon drifted away from me, as if he had been caught doing something he shouldn’t. He tilted his head low. “Lucifer.” He bowed.

Lorenzo’s jaw clenched, his presence swallowing the air in the room. “I’ll ask again….what’s going on here?”

Gideon raised his head to speak, but I stopped him. “I was looking for the kitchen.”

Lorenzo turned to me, his face hardened. “Kitchen? What for?”

“I was bored, so I decided to go help Patricia out with the chores.”

“You were bored?” He dipped his hands into his pockets, eyes locked on me.

“Gideon,” he called through clenched teeth.

Gideon rushed forward from behind. “Yes, boss?”

“Leave us.”

Gideon gave one last bow and walked out. Suddenly, the room felt empty, with only the sound of the water rippling from the pool.

“So, tell me,” Lorenzo began to move closer. “What is making you bored?”

My eyes flickered. The heat coming from his closeness clouded my sense of reason, and honestly, I couldn’t say a word.

“Do you know how long I searched for you when I woke up, only for Kim to tell me that she found you here?”

“I….I’m sorry,” my lips quivered.

“Hell,” he breathed heavily. “Why do you keep apologizing for everything? I’ve told you how much I hate those words.”

“Oh… I won’t use it again.”

But he wasn’t having it.

Lorenzo pulled me by the waist, locking us together.

My breath hitched. “Lo… Lorenzo… what are you doing?”

He brushed his knuckle under my chin. “Since my little human is bored, I’ve decided to do something fun for her.”

I pushed him softly on the chest, head tilting. “What… do you mean?”

“When two opposite genders are this close behind closed doors…” He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. “What do you think they do for fun, Eve?”

“I don’t know…..”

His mouth curved into a sinful grin. “Sex,” he whispered against the tender spot of my neck, awakening strange feelings in me.

My palm rested on his hard chest, refusing to move.

Lorenzo hovered around my face. “So what do you think?”

I didn’t answer, my mind was long gone.

“Answer me….” he spoke against my skin.

“Um….nothing,” I managed to say.

Lorenzo’s eyes dropped to my body. “My shirt looks good on you,” he murmured.

“Yeah… I’m sorry for wearing it. I didn’t come here with clothes.”

“Shhh….” he placed a finger above my lips, silencing me.

Lorenzo dragged the tip of his nose along my shoulder, eyes half-closed. “My personal shopper is on her way here. She’ll get you enough dresses.”

He pulled down one side of the shirt, exposing my breast. A shiver ran through my core, aching so badly I wished to have his fingers on them already.

“But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see you in my clothes.”

I threw my head back, feeling his wet lips on my collarbone. “Lo….. Lorenzo…..” his name escaped my lips as a gasp.

“Do you want me to touch you?” With a slow, practiced hand, he began to lift my shirt.

I wanted to say no. I wanted to slap him out of this madness, but having him this close made it harder than it looked.

“Yes…..” The word slipped out before I could stop it.

“Fuck, Evelyn Martins.” Lorenzo groaned.

He lifted my shirt and found me completely naked underneath. His eyes widened at the sight.
“You aren’t wearing anything?”

I forced a nod, fighting to stabilize my breathing.

“Oh, my little flame….. you make me go crazy.....”

Lorenzo dropped the shirt back down and stepped away. Suddenly, I felt empty, the ache inside growing stronger.

He searched my eyes. “Can I kiss you?”

My knees buckled. Was he trying to humiliate me again? He knew I wasn’t good with kissing. But if this was what it took to fill the emptiness inside me, then I’d try again.

I gave a faint nod.

Lorenzo hissed softly. “Use your words, Eve.”

“Yes…..you can,” I said, nodding.

He smiled, that devilish glint returning to his lips. “That’s my girl.”

His hand curved around my neck, pulling me closer. I shut my eyes, a swirl of anxiety and eagerness coursing through me all at once.

I had never had a proper kiss in my life. The first person I ever kissed was Nolan, and that was the last time. We both said it was a mistake. We believed it shouldn’t happen again because we saw ourselves as siblings, even though we weren’t blood related.

Finally, I felt Lorenzo’s mouth on mine. He didn’t just kiss me…..he devoured me. He tilted my head, fingers tangled in my hair, as I moaned right into his mouth.

“Lorenzo…..”

A tingling sensation played between my thighs, sending electric sparks to my chest.

Just when I was enjoying it too much, I heard footsteps outside.

My hands pressed on his shoulders, trying to push him away. “Lorenzo…..”

But his grip was too strong.

I turned my face away with quick motion.

“What?” he asked, frustrated.

“Someone…..someone is coming…..”

Before I could finish, the door flew open, revealing Kim.

My eyes widened as I pulled away sharply.

Kim’s face tightened. She didn’t say anything, but I could hear everything she wanted to say through her eyes.

Lorenzo stood amused, watching me while he ran his tongue across his lips.

He turned to Kim. “Is there something I can do for you?”

Kim’s grip tightened on the doorknob. “Yes… can I see you, please?”

Lorenzo turned back to me, smiling sheepishly. “After you.”

Kim hesitated, eyes blazing with fury before slamming the door behind her.

Lorenzo gave me one last glance, a flicker of a smile tugging at his lips.

“Go freshen up and wear something decent.” He leaned closer, his forehead resting lightly on mine. “I don’t like my men staring at my food.”

“What?!”

He winked at me and straightened, sliding his hands back into his pockets.

Before I could even react, he was gone.

The audacity. How could he refer to me as food?

“God….." I ran my fingers through my hair.

How do I hate him so much, yet still want him at the same time?
