Chapter 145 CHAPTER 145

Chapter 145 CHAPTER 145
It's another day of his life on campus that suddenly seems to feel better because everyone practically wants to be his friend, and it gets worse once they find out he's actually the fiancée of Reign Montgomery.

At this point, he's some celebrity. Well, he doesn't mind the fame.

Soren walks out of the double doors alone. It's a shame that Reign is not coming to pick him up this time.

Soren walks toward the lot, but then his gaze lands on a familiar figure, slipping away into the corner. Soren's stomach churns, and suddenly, he's running towards the figure, wanting to believe that he's wrong, that it's not who he thinks it is.

He slips into an alleyway, following the figure as they dart around a corner into a dead end walled off by a fence.

"Stop right there," Soren orders as he comes to an abrupt stop, breathing slightly hard as he stares at the back of the person dressed in a black sweater with its hoodie over her head.

Soren notices the slight tremble before the person turns around and pulls the hood back, her hair that's now slightly gray, falling out.

A lump instantly forms in his throat at the sight of his mother. He was right. It's her.

She looks terrible; her face is gaunt, her skin is pale and sickly, and her eyes are bloodshot and sunk into her skull.

She looks more like a ghost than a human, a pathetic, broken shell of the woman who had made his life a living hell for so many years.

He thought she was gone. He thought he was never meant to see her again. How did she know he was here? How did she find him? Soren takes a step back.

"Soren," she croaks, her voice wavering as fresh tears instantly spill down her cheeks. "Oh, my beautiful Omega... I finally knew you were going to recognize me.”

Soren's shoulders tense, his hands balling into tight fists at his sides. "What the hell are you doing here? How did you find me?"

She shakes her head, more tears spilling down her face. “It doesn't matter how I found you, Soren, my son,” she sobs, and suddenly, she collapses onto her knees right there on the concrete and clasps her hands together, looking up at him with desperation.

Soren's eyes twitch. He has never seen his mother so desperate before.

"Soren, please. Please, you have to help me. I am so, so sorry. I'm sorry for everything I did to you. It was the alcohol and the drugs. I didn't know what I was doing to you. I didn't know I was hurting my son. I'm sorry!” She cries, bowing her head, repeatedly against the ground until a red spot forms on her forehead.

Soren's throat tightens and his hand clenches and unclenches, and for a moment, he looks to see they're the only ones there. He looks back at her. “What are you doing? Get up!”

"Soren, please!" she begs, then she crawls over to Soren, grabbing him by the leg. “Forgive me, or he's going to kill me! Your Enigma! His men have been hunting me down for weeks! If they find me, they are going to kill me! You have to save me! I am your mother; you can't watch me die!"

Soren’s breath hitches as her words sink in. Why is Reign still going for her after he told her to leave? She might be the worst mother on earth; Soren doesn't want her to die.

Soren looks at the pathetic, weeping woman on the ground. She is a monster; she deserves to be locked away, but a knot forms in Soren's chest. Despite the hell she put him through... he cannot stomach the idea of Reign harming her. He cannot watch his own mother die.

Soren lets out an exhausted sigh and drops his guard. He grabs her by the shoulder and pulls her up to her feet. “Fine. I'll talk to Reign.”

Her teary eyes instantly light up. "Yes! Yes, thank you! Oh, thank you, my sweet boy! I knew you wouldn't let me die!" She cries and stumbles forward, closing the distance between them and reaching out her arms as if to pull him into a hug, but that's when Soren catches the glint of a knife reflecting the afternoon light.

The facade on her face falls too quickly, replaced by a manic look in her eyes. "I just need a little favor first!" she screeches.

She pulls the blade from her pocket and violently thrusts her hand forward, aiming for the nearest part of Soren's body, but Soren reacts quickly as he twists his torso to the side, and the sharp edge of the blade slashes across the side of his stomach, creating a sharp cut.

"Agh!" Soren grunts before grabbing the blade, which immediately slices into his palm. He draws it out of her hand and throws it across the ground before driving his knee into her stomach.

She instantly folds in half, gasping for air while Soren pants, his eyes stinging with tears at the reality that his own mother nearly killed him. He barely feels the cuts on his side and palms as he stares at the woman.

“This is what you get for betraying your own mother,” she screeches, her eyes bloodshot, but in that moment, three security guards suddenly arrive at the scene, and instantly, they dive for her the moment she tries to run.

"Let me go! I just needed to get paid! They promised me money!" she screams frantically, thrashing against the guards as they drag her away while Soren still stands frozen.

“Are you okay, sire? You should get to the nurse and get your injuries checked,” one of the security guards tells him, pulling Soren back to reality, and slowly, he forces a nod.

“Come on, you also need to give a statement, and we can decide what to do with her.”

Again, Soren nods. At the moment, it's almost like he's lost his voice, and then he follows the guard out of the alley, and just like that, the last, fragile piece of sympathy he ever held for her is permanently shattered.

The moment the alleyway falls silent once again, Sylvester steps out of the corner with a smirk on her face.

He walks slowly toward the center of the alleyway and looks around, and right at the corner is the blood-stained knife left forgotten.

Sylvester kneels down and reaches out with a gloved hand and gently picks up the weapon. He holds the blade closer, and his breath hitches in glee.

Glistening along the sharp edge of the blade is a smear of Soren's blood.

"Oh, you foolish, pathetic woman," Sylvester tsks and shakes his head before shoving the knife into a plastic bag and walking away, already tasting victory on his tongue.

“Let me go!”

Diane Fox cries and struggles against the hands that pull her along towards the unknown with her hands tied behind her and a sack over her head.

“I didn't do anything!” She yells, and suddenly, the back of her leg is kicked, and she's forced to drop to her knees, yanking out a cry from her hoarse throat.

And then the sack is yanked off her head, and she comes face to face with the darkness of the night and Monroe's cold, piercing eyes.

Her eyes well up with tears as she shakes her head. “No, you can't kill me. Soren will never forgive you for this!” She screams, her sobs echoing through the night.

“You're delusional,” Monroe says, yanking a gun from behind his jacket and pointing it at her face. “Mr. Montgomery sends his regards.”

BANG!
