Chapter 141

Chapter 141

After dropping those words, Conrad quickly pulled out his phone and called his father Pax without a second thought.

Meanwhile, the two men who had been backed up against the window realized they were no match for Michael. They dropped to their knees, covered their heads with their hands, and begged for mercy at the top of their lungs: "Stop hitting us! Stop! You're a real man! Keep this up and we'll jump right out this window!"

The words "real man" hit just the right spot for Michael.

His rage cooling at once, Michael stopped and looked at the two men with a cold smirk. "Smart move. Let me tell you something — I may not carry myself like this gentleman here, but my skills are just as sharp. Isn't that right, David?"

When David caught Michael throwing him a flirtatious look, whatever small interest he'd just started to feel vanished on the spot. He waved his hand and said, "Don't talk to me like that. I really can't handle it."

Michael covered his mouth and laughed. "David, I already told Mia on my way up — I'm going to learn from you from now on. I want to have that same manly energy you've got."

Conrad stood in the doorway and gave Pax a full rundown of everything that had happened. After hanging up, he pointed at Michael and snarled, "Get on your knees and apologize right now, while you still can! Otherwise, when my father gets here with his people, I'll make sure you wish you were dead!"

Michael didn't flinch. He smiled and said, "Don't try to scare me. I've been to Seabrook more than once or twice. As far as I know, the person who can make me wish I were dead hasn't been born yet."

The veins on Conrad's forehead bulged. He shot a furious look at the two so-called fighters crouched by the window, then turned back to Michael and asked slowly, word by word, "Do you know who I am?"

Michael walked over to Mia's side and pointed at Conrad. "Go ahead, tell me. Who are you?"

Conrad said with a proud lift of his chin, "Listen carefully. I am Conrad — heir to the Warren family, one of the three great earldoms of Seabrook. My father is Pax, one of those three earls."

Michael laughed casually. "So we have that in common — both from earl families. Though it seems the Warrens don't put much effort into raising the next generation. The Carrs take it very seriously. Every generation is supposed to be stronger than the last. You're just... weak."

Conrad's eyes went wide. "Wait — you're from the Carr family?"

Michael gave a light nod and grinned. "Of course. How else would I be this good?"

Conrad knew the Carr family was based in the next city over and was every bit as powerful as the Warrens. But then again, so what? The Warren family had been rooted in Seabrook for years. Before Joshua showed up, they were second to none in both wealth and connections. Joshua might be on top now, but the Warrens still ran deep, with ties woven through every corner of the city.

With that in mind, Conrad laughed without a trace of worry. "So what if you're from an earl family? And you have the nerve to tell me the Carrs care about raising the next generation? Other than being able to fight, what else do you have going for you? A big, built guy like you, dressed like... that? You can't even tell what you are."

As far as Michael was concerned, as long as no one called him a freak, being called feminine was no big deal. He fired back with a grin, "What do you know? It's called having style. You're just too basic to get it."

David was starting to realize that Michael was actually something else. A little over the top, sure — but when it counted, the guy had real backbone. If someone could get him to talk normally and dress like a regular person, he might actually shape up into a capable right-hand man, like Joshua.

With that thought, David simply pulled out a chair and sat down.

Mia watched this and kept dabbing at the sweat on her forehead. She turned to David in a panic. "Why are you sitting down? Didn't you hear Conrad call for backup? If Mr. Warren actually shows up with people, we're walking straight into the lion's den!"

David laughed. "A lion? Don't flatter the Warren family like that."

Mia pushed back. "Aren't they?"

David didn't even pause. "In my eyes, the Warren family isn't even a bug. If Pax dares to show up today, he's not leaving on his feet unless he gets down and bows to me first."

Conrad was sharp enough to think it through. If it were just David and Mia, Pax could show up and wrap things up easily. But now there was Michael — and whatever he said, the guy was still from an earl family. If he had connections in Seabrook too, Pax rushing in might backfire.

So Conrad took out his phone again and quickly typed a message to Pax.

In less than thirty seconds, Pax replied: "No problem."

Conrad let out a breath. The knot in his chest was gone.

David said nothing more to Conrad and the others. He turned to Michael and Mia, waved his hand, and smiled. "Sit down. I'll have them bring the food. Let's eat."

Seattle Grand Bistro didn't rush its dishes — everything was made fresh, with ingredients pulled as needed. They had barely gotten through three courses when Pax stormed in with a group of people.

At the same time, David's phone rang.

He picked up. Before he could say a word, Fox's voice came through, urgent and fast: "Boss, you're at the restaurant, right? The manager just called me — the police have Seattle Grand Bistro surrounded. Do you need me to come back?"

David smiled slightly. "No need. I'm here. What would you be coming back for? Go handle your business."

David knew that among the people he'd brought to Seabrook, Fox was by far the busiest. Laser just needed to hold the castle and keep it from being hit. Werewolf and Lizard just needed to keep eyes on Flame Demon. But Fox had just dealt with the whole Cole Group mess, and there was still a mountain of work waiting for her.

Fox took the order without another word. "Got it. If you need anything, Boss, just call."
