Chapter 28
After school, Heriet immediately met Kevin at the basketball club building. Kevin pretended not to notice Heriet's presence. He knew Heriet would definitely try to advise him about the problems between him and Melisa.
"Never mind, don't pretend you don't care." Heriet stepped closer to Kevin who was busy dribbling the ball onto the floor.
"What is it?" Kevin asked curtly as he stopped playing.
"I just came here to try to clear up the misunderstanding that occurred between you and Lisa, this situation really seems very uncomfortable for me."
"Keep going?"
"Kevin, try to be a little open to other people's opinions!"
“What opinion? It has nothing to do with me.”
“You, do you really not care?”
“Whatever, you guys are just like children imagining things. No need to follow! What the hell is that Jack Louis? Do you think he's a prince from a fairy tale?"
"So, you think Lisa is lying?"
"It's not like that, I don't want her to keep remembering unpleasant things like that. You don't know exactly what she experienced at that time!”
"Lisa is sick and I know it."
“No, you don't know, what you saw you don't fully know. Never mind, no need to discuss it. I hate discussing the past, especially about that Jack Louis!"
"Why? Could it be that you don't like it when Lisa approaches Jack? Because she thought that Jack could help her better, right? Are you jealous Kevin?"
“Nonsense, this is ridiculous. You've gone too far, you fool! Go away! Don't bother me!"
“If you really know something, come on and tell her, don't just keep quiet. If you think you know everything better, come on and prove that you are indeed her friend." Heriet left feeling annoyed after leaving harsh words for Kevin.
Her heart was beating very hard and it was a little suffocating. She had never felt so annoyed with Kevin that she wanted to hit him.
"Heri...!" Melisa called her, she was waiting across the football field.
“Sorry,” Heriet's face was gloomy, she looked very sad.
"What is it? What happened to you?"
"There isn't anything."
"You talked to Kevin earlier, right? What is it? Don't tell me you two had a fight?"
"It's nothing, we were just arguing a little."
“Never mind, Heriet. Just be honest with me! You two were fighting, weren't you?”
Heriet was silent when she heard Melisa's question, which was clearly on target. She immediately stopped her footsteps, originally wanting to try to leave Melisa to avoid questions like that.
"Sometimes I feel like I don't know Kevin even though we've been friends for so long."
"Why?"
“He's weird sometimes, but I don't really care. But after that conversation, he feels like a stranger to me.”
"What did he say to you?"
“I don't know, the point is he's really annoying. I just want to go home." She said with clenched fists. She walked quickly ahead of Melisa who looked confused.
Seeing Kevin and Heriet fighting, she felt it was because of her. If it was like this, it seemed like she couldn't involve the two of them in what action she would take next.
In her car, Melisa kept thinking about Jack, she didn't know what she should do after this. Her mind kept wandering somewhere. Without her realizing it, a young man wearing a long-sleeved red t-shirt passed in front of her. Melisa was shocked and immediately stopped her car.
"Are you okay?" She immediately got out of the car and approached the man dressed in red.
"No." Melisa was really surprised to see who the young man was. He was Jack Louis, the person she had just been thinking about.
"Jack?" Melisa wondered, her face looked like she was in a daze.
Jack didn't make a sound, it was clear from his face that he didn't want to have anything to do with the young woman in front of him. Jack hurried away without further ado.
"W-wait a minute!" Melisa shouted for Jack while running, trying to catch up with Jack. Jack just stared coldly at Melisa. He was increasingly displeased with her presence.
"Why are you doing this? Not friendly at all. Don't you remember? I'm your classmate from elementary school? Do you remember?" Melisa asked, pointing at her face.
Jack didn't care what Melisa said, his cold eyes made anyone in front of him shiver. The look on his face was not friendly at all.
"Don't you remember? I'm Melisa Smith, your classmate with Heriet and Kevin." Melisa snorted, Jack was silent for a moment trying to think of something.
"No!" He answered flatly.
"Geez, you're so cynical, Emh...like this, can I come to your house?? Let's just say we're having a reunion." Once again, she tried to seduce Jack with her charm.
"No."
"Why not?"
"I don't like you." Jack said quite harsh words, after which he started to leave.
“Well, it's up to you, you annoying man!" Melisa shouted irritably. But she didn't want to lose, she had a more interesting plan. She secretly followed Jack from behind, her curiosity aroused.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" An old woman grabbed Melisa's shoulder and interrupted her thoughts.
"I'm sorry, madam, I-" Melisa answered haltingly. She was afraid of being mistaken for a stalker.
"You're Jack's friend?"
"F-friend?”
"Earlier, I saw you walking behind Jack, but I was confused why he didn't invite you inside." The old woman said with a confused face. Now Melisa is increasingly confused about what to say, her mind is stuck.
"My name is Melisa Smith, I'm Jack's classmate in the college." Melisa answered simply.
“Melisa Smith? Are you Jonathan Smith's daughter?”
“Ah yes, I am his daughter.”
"Oh I see, come on, please come in. It just so happened that I was making muffins."
"Thank you, madam?" Melisa was so cheerful that she received such a good welcome from Jack's grandma.
But when she stepped into the old house, the eerie feeling hit her chest again. Now it's getting stronger, making it difficult for her to move her feet. There was a small singing voice that seemed to whisper in her ear.
“N-no!” Melisa shouted while covering her ears.
"Melisa?" The old lady called her, making the tense feeling disappear quickly.
"S-sorry, I-" Melisa looked down while holding her knees. Cold sweat flowed all over her body. Her breathing was labored and her chest felt very tight.
"Are you alright? Your face is so pale."
"I-I'm fine, Madam Louis."
"Then come on, please sit down, I will make hot tea for you first. Later, I will tell Jack to accompany you, wait a moment, okay?" Madam Louis left, leaving Melisa alone in the large living room.
Melisa continued to look at every corner of the room, the old piano perched beside the stairs on the second floor, a large photo located in the middle of the room. The photo consists of Mr and Mrs Louis, an authoritative adult man with a beautiful woman beside him, and in the middle of them there is a little boy who is very similar to Jack, next to them is an adult man with a beard and scary eyes with a small woman and in the middle of them there is a boy and a small girl.
Melisa stepped closer to the place where the large photo was displayed, the uncomfortable feeling came back. But this time, she saw a scary shadow where she was standing.
The sound of piano music was heard, the piano was played by little Jack. Nearby there was a pair of boys and girls who saw little Jack playing the piano, suddenly a man with a beard came over holding a rifle. The man beat a woman on the second floor until she fell down and fainted.
The girl ran towards the woman who had fainted, but suddenly the scary man immediately played with his rifle and shot the girl in the head, killing her.
"No…!" Melisa screamed hysterically, she closed her eyes and tried to erase the scary picture she had just seen. She didn't know why something like this could happen.
"What are you doing here?" Suddenly, Jack was standing in front of her.
"Jack, I-" Melisa tried to explain, but she couldn't finish the words.
"You're following me?" Jack asked with a face without any expression.
“Yeah, I'm sorry. I
just-"
"Go home, if you don't want to see them again!"
“What?”
"Go home!"
“But, okay I'm so sorry.”
Jack looked at her for a moment, then he left without giving any explanation. Melisa just remained silent while looking at Jack's back as he walked away leaving her alone.
