The emperor’s face appeared to be surprised and pale. Since dragons were usually the emperors of all the living things. It is normal that he felt threatened on the current reign, but Therrion doesn’t have any thoughts of being the emperor. From what I know of him, he’s likely just travel around or use his power as entertainment for everyone. Besides, since Amari hasn’t woken up, he was extremely weak and couldn’t even exact a simple power-ranging to other objects. He was greatly affected by the fact that Amari was still lying on the bed unconscious and their pact weas weak.

I smiled at the emperor. “Please don’t feel threatened. The Dragon is old enough not to want to the throne and he made sure that he wouldn’t want anything in regards of reigning an empire.”

The emperor released a relieved sigh. “That felt much better than earlier. How about Amari and their pact?”

I lowered my head, “Their pact was weak, so his power had plummeted, too.”

“Tell him to take care because he was a great help.”

I nodded my head then remembered, “Oh, do you know who Terry is?”

He laughed, “Isn’t he the dragon?”

I shook my head, “Remember that guy in the abandoned Magic Tower?”, he flinched, looking at me with solemnity. I expected much, “Terry is Rymond, the one in the abandoned Magic Tower.”

He frowned at me, questioning why he had to be Rymond. If I was in his position, I supposed I would have reacted stronger. Maybe he was like that since he was an emperor for a long time and have learned to be calm in any situation.

“How did he…?”

“It’s a long story. But I, Rymond, and Amari are not here,” I sighed, “You know that we’re not from this family so why did you never gave an edict to banish us?”

He tugged his lips upwards, “If you had other motives in my empire, I would have done so. But you stayed loyal until the end. That much is the testament on how you want me to believe that you don’t want anything but a solid standing in this Empire.”

I didn’t know he’s that perceiving man but of course he is the Emperor, it’s natural. It would be unusual if he didn’t know about our identities and ordered us to beg for mercy.

He patted my shoulder, “I know that. I will call you upon Amari’s awakening.”

I beamed at him, “Thank you, Your Majesty.”

Throughout the three weeks, I had been worrying about Amari especially. I couldn’t eat or sleep because I was anxious the moment I sleep, I wouldn’t see her again. When she gave up her powers, it felt like I had been living this life for nothing as I couldn’t even help her in that crisis. She hasn’t woken up while Luke has pestered me to eat for nourishment.

I may not remember everything, but I knew for sure that we had a good history that no one could break.

The bed creaked the moment I laid my body on it. Beside me was Amari, who was sleeping peacefully. I wanted her to open her eyes and look at me with her doe and pretty eyes, but she was still sleeping it’s making me mad over my helplessness.

If I was the one who gave up my power then she wouldn’t need to suffer this much.

For the past few days, Evangeline came to visit us and used her awakened power to help Rymond and Amari which was a very good help than my powers could. The emperor promised recognition after Amari woke up so I couldn’t wait to let everybody know how proud I am to have Amari as my one and only woman.

Louis also came with Evangeline occasionally. No one could guarantee that this two had reconciled but based on their complexion, I guess they were doing well.

I watched as Evangeline laid Amari’s hand on her stomach and smiled at me.

“Duchess was much better than the first time I visited. Make sure that the hieroglyphs I created will be of use every single day, Duke.”

She said to which I nodded my head in relief, “Thank you for your help.”

She shook her head, “Duchess had helped me a lot so it’s natural that I help her when she needed me. Please be strong, Duke. She has a higher chance now.”

I closed my eyes. “I know…”

Louis approached me, tapping my shoulder consolingly.

“We will visit again on weekend.”

I alternately beamed at them in happiness, “Of course, you are very much welcomed.”

When they left, I was again alone with Amari. I tightly held her hand wishing that she gets well tomorrow. I badly wanted to see her again, especially her smiles and blushes.

“Amari, my wife…. Please wake up and open your eyes.” I sincerely wished, “I am right here by your side so open up and let me see you.”

It had been a month since then. Amari’s demeanor was finally back on its normal track, more importantly, I caught her fingertips moving so I knew for sure that it was only a matter of time before she woke up and greeted me with another gorgeous smile.

“Mmhh…”

Like a fateful call of destiny, I heard her voice ringing in my ears. That was when I knew that she woke up and almost instantly, I rose from my seat and held her hand tighter. My eyes fell without me knowing, watching as Amari unsteadily opened her eyes at me. I feel so proud.

Finally, I embraced her like I had never done before. Amari coughed to which I immediately parted from her and asked stuttering.

“A-Are you hurt anywhere? D-do you want water, what food do you like to eat?”

I wiped my tears and Amari stared at me in a disbelief expression. With her free hand, she lifted her hand onto my cheeks smiling faintly and caressing my cheek.

“You’re… fine,” she released a relieved sigh which caused me to shed more tears. I couldn’t stop them so I might as well pour out what I had been prevented for that month. I clutched her hands tenderly like I didn’t want to let go of them anymore. I badly wanted to see her and now seeing her face, I wish for nothing but to see her smile again.

I cracked a smile, “… Thank you, th-thank you for waking up and o-opening your eyes for me. I-I don’t ask for everything. I just want you to be better and just… just… s-spend your lifetime with me.”

I heard a giggle from her so I faced her while crying. I immediately lied beside her, stroking her cheek affectionately.

“Fool, of course it’s with you I spend my life with.” Her breathings were normal. It’s really thanks to Evangeline for lending her powers to Amari intending to make her feel better and now that she had woke up, Evangeline presence was important. I will thank her for making my wife better.

I kissed Amari’s forehead, then on her cheek, her eyelids, even on her nose. I kissed the mole on her temple, then I pecked her kiss. She smiled at me, smiling contentedly.

“I love you, Zaren Valkyrine.”

I grinned at her, “I love you, Amari Valkyrine.”

As she blinked her eyes, she wrapped her hands around my neck and we shared a long embrace. Finally, you’re in my arms again.
