Chapter 66 066

Chapter 66 066
LYKA

I knew Zuri wasn’t going to tell me anything useful... not without asking for something in return. That much was obvious from the way she carried herself, always calculating, always watching. So why would I even bother trying to coax information out of someone like her? The only reasonable option was to stand my ground and make it clear that I wasn’t someone she could toy with.
“I don’t see a reason why you’re trying to tell me anything,” I said calmly, folding my arms. “It’s not like you’re doing it out of goodwill.”
I heard her gasp softly, clearly not expecting me to respond so bluntly.
Well, what did she expect? That I would fall for her tricks so easily? I wasn’t that naïve.
“Are you not bold?” she snapped, her tone sharp with disbelief. “Did you think you actually did something? You’re not even worth anything, so why are you acting so mighty?”
Her voice rose with each word, and I could tell she was only a few steps away from completely losing control.
What is wrong with her? How dare she raise her voice at us like that? Elysia growled inside me, her irritation mirroring mine.
Even though anger simmered beneath my skin, I forced myself to stay composed.
“If I’m truly that insignificant,” I replied coolly, “then I don’t think you should care about me at all.” I tilted my head slightly, a faint smile playing on my lips. “And if you’re going to shout, at least lower your voice. That’s the only way you’ll hear what’s going on inside.”
Her face flushed red instantly, rage flashing in her eyes.
“Do whatever you want,” she snapped. “But don’t come running to me when things don’t work out. I won’t take responsibility for you.”
I nodded, unfazed.
She could rest assured... I would never go to her for help. That thought alone was laughable.
“Don’t worry,” I said, my smile cold and distant. “I won’t.”
Without waiting for another word, I turned and walked away, leaving her behind. She was too stubborn… and too predictable.
I still couldn’t understand why she thought I was easy prey, someone she could manipulate at will.
Do I really look that weak?
“What a nuisance,” I scoffed under my breath as I walked down the hallway.
There was no point lingering around anymore. I couldn’t eavesdrop on whatever Derrick and that woman were discussing, and staying there would only irritate me further.
Those two… always so secretive.
I returned to my room, and the moment I stepped inside, I slammed the door shut behind me.
“Ahhh!”
The scream tore out of my throat before I could stop it. It echoed through the room, raw and unrestrained, until my voice nearly gave out.
“Who is that stupid girl?!” I snapped, pacing the room. “Who is she that I suddenly feel the urge to shut her up? What... she’s his betrothed? Since when? And on whose authority?!”
My chest rose and fell rapidly as anger surged through me again.
No matter how hard I tried to stay calm, the moment I remembered her face... her smile, her presence... it ignited something unbearable inside me.
Why is she here? I don’t like her… not even a little. There’s something off about her. She reeks of something dark, Elysia muttered, her tone filled with suspicion.
And for once, I didn’t argue.
She was right.
But what could I do?
Nothing.
I could only wait… and see how everything unfolded.
A sudden knock interrupted my thoughts.
I frowned, glancing at the door. “Who is it?” I called out, but there was no response.
The silence stretched on, making my irritation grow.
Finally, I walked over and opened the door.
“I was wondering who was occupying my room,” a sharp voice greeted me instantly. “And here she is… with that thick-skinned face.”
I blinked, taken aback.
Standing in front of me was Morgan... the same woman who had seemed calm and composed earlier. Now, she looked like a completely different person.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, genuinely confused. “I have no idea what you mean, so if you’d kindly explain... ”
“I don’t like you,” she cut in sharply. “Even your face irritates me. But don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about. You’d better start explaining yourself!”
Her voice rose again, filled with hostility that felt almost misplaced.
Wasn’t she acting gentle earlier? What happened now?
“If you have the energy to shout,” I replied, my tone hardening, “then you should use it to actually explain what you want instead of screaming nonsense.”
She froze for a second, clearly not expecting me to talk back.
What? Does she think she’s the only one allowed to lose her temper? Elysia scoffed. Too bad for her... you’re worse.
“You dare talk back to me?” Morgan shrieked. “You freeloading witch!”
Her words were meant to provoke me, but I didn’t react the way she wanted.
Someone clearly wanted me to lose control.
Too bad I wasn’t going to give them that satisfaction.
“I’m already tired of this,” she continued, her voice dripping with disdain. “Pack your things and leave. Now.”
I rubbed my ear slightly, annoyed by the sharpness of her voice.
“What exactly are you saying?” I asked calmly.
She let out a mocking laugh.
“I’m sure you heard me perfectly well,” she said. “This is my room.”
I sighed, exasperated.
I wasn’t someone who could be bullied, and she was clearly making a mistake trying to push me around.
“Well, that’s unfortunate,” I replied evenly. “Because someone is already occupying this room. And I don’t think you can get her out.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“Are you saying you’re staying here? Even after I told you this room is mine?”
I nodded.
“Seems like you’re having a hard time accepting reality,” I added.
Her expression twisted with fury.
“What?! You smug girl!”
She raised her hand suddenly, aiming to strike me, but I caught her wrist midair, stopping her effortlessly.
Her eyes widened in shock at my strength.
Before either of us could react further...
“What is going on here?”
Derrick’s voice cut through the tension sharply.
I released her arm immediately and stepped back.
“That’s not the question!” Morgan snapped, turning to him. “Throw this woman out of here immediately!”
Her claws were already visible, her anger barely contained.
I turned to Derrick, expecting him to correct her...
But his next words made my heart skip.
“Really?” he said calmly. “Then she should be thrown out.”
For a moment, everything went silent.
My ears rang as his words settled in.
Thrown out…?
Did he mean me?
Or… her?
