Chapter 62 062

Chapter 62 062
DERRICK

I sighed when I saw how shocked Scott looked, but I couldn’t say anything because I was just as surprised when Zuri handed me the evidence earlier. The moment still replayed in my mind like a broken record.
What was I supposed to do with this information? Who was I supposed to tell that my own mate was allegedly planning an attack on my pack?
The thought alone felt ridiculous and terrifying at the same time.
“What are you saying, Alpha? How can you say something like that?” Scott asked, his voice laced with disbelief.
“I didn’t make it up. There’s evidence to support the claim,” I replied quietly, my voice heavier than usual as I handed him the letter Zuri had dropped on my desk earlier.
Scott took the parchment slowly, his fingers gripping the edge as though it might burn him.
“This… this is a death command!” he exclaimed, his eyes widening in shock. “How did you get this?”
I could understand why he looked so stunned.
The seal on the letter alone was enough to make any warrior uneasy.
“Yes,” I answered grimly. “And it came out of Lyka’s room.”
Scott’s head snapped up immediately, his eyes widening even more as he processed my words.
“That’s not true. I don’t believe that,” Charles growled inside my mind, his voice sharp with disapproval. But this was not the time to listen to my wolf’s whining. I had enough problems without his interference.
“What? That can’t be true… but who told you that?” Scott asked carefully.
“It was Kira,” I said, rubbing my jaw slowly as tension built inside my chest. “She told me the letter was found in Lyka’s room when one of the maids was cleaning. I didn’t believe it at first either, but the stamp on the letter belongs to Lyka’s pack.”
“Kira? Zuri told you this and you believed her?” Scott scoffed.
“You don’t think Zuri could be right?” I asked slowly.
“I mean… that girl is capable of anything if she puts her mind to it. Do you really think that just because she told you something, it automatically becomes the truth?” he challenged.
Charles let out a satisfied purr inside my head.
“Looks like Scott is more sensible than you.”
I gritted my teeth in irritation.
Why couldn’t my wolf just leave me alone instead of constantly stirring up my thoughts?
“What do you think this is?” I said firmly. “You know it’s not something trivial. Zuri wouldn’t just wake up one morning and create a lie of this magnitude. She’s not foolish enough to think I wouldn’t eventually discover the truth.”
Scott shook his head slowly.
“But you know that’s not how things work,” he insisted. “You can’t just believe everything she says.”
A tired sigh escaped my lips.
Maybe he was right. Maybe I couldn’t blindly believe her.
But that didn’t mean I couldn’t have doubts.
My responsibility was to protect this pack.
If there truly was a plan to attack us, I had to act before it was too late.
“Alright,” I muttered after a moment of silence. “Maybe I should ask the mastermind behind this directly.”
Scott immediately shook his head.
“What? You’re going to ask her?” he asked in disbelief. “Wouldn’t that upset her? I mean, I’m still trying to pacify Kate…”
He trailed off abruptly when he realized he had started speaking off-topic.
“Don’t mess around,” I said firmly, patting his shoulder. “Just go and get Lyka for me.”
Scott studied my face for a moment before nodding reluctantly.
“Whatever happens, I hope you give her a chance to explain herself,” he said quietly as he turned toward the door. “So you don’t regret it like before.”
His words struck deeper than he probably realized.
The moment he left the room, my fists clenched tightly.
A painful memory flashed through my mind.
I could still see those brown eyes filled with pain, widening slowly before the light in them began to fade. It was a sight that had haunted me for years.
And no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t erase it.
I was so lost in those memories that I didn’t even notice when Lyka entered the room.
I only snapped out of my thoughts when I felt a warm hand gently rest on mine.
“What is going on?” she asked softly. “And why are you so determined to destroy the table?”
Her voice carried a mixture of confusion and disbelief.
I blinked in surprise and looked down.
The wooden table in front of me had completely shattered into pieces.
Fragments of wood were scattered across the floor.
My heart sank instantly.
I hadn’t even realized what I had done.
But the explanation was obvious.
I had lost control again.
“You’re here,” I said slowly as I turned to face her.
For a brief moment, I forgot everything else.
Lyka looked radiant that morning. Her hair was tied neatly in a bun that accentuated the delicate lines of her face. The soft morning light filtering through the window made her skin glow, and I found myself staring at her longer than I should have.
“Mine,” Charles growled possessively inside my head.
I clenched my jaw and forced myself to regain control.
That wasn’t the reason I had called her here.
I needed answers.
“If you have something to say, say it quickly,” she said coldly, looking away from me. “I don’t have all day.”
“Did it make you uncomfortable?” I asked suddenly.
She frowned.
“What?”
“Staring at me like that,” I continued. “Did it make you feel awkward?”
She let out a dry laugh.
“Awkward?” she repeated sarcastically. “Maybe we should start with the fact that you went around telling everyone we slept together. Then maybe you’ll understand what awkward really means.”
A chuckle escaped my lips.
“I never said that,” I replied casually. “But I can’t blame people for misunderstanding me.”
I leaned closer, lifting her chin gently with my fingers.
“It’s not my fault you’re sexy enough to be in my bed,” I murmured. “You should consider it an honor.”
Her reaction was immediate.
She slapped my hand away sharply.
“Don’t you dare touch me!” she snapped. “Why did you call me here?”
Something about her behavior felt… different.
She had never been this edgy before.
It made my suspicion grow stronger.
“Did you plan on betraying me?” I asked suddenly.
She raised an eyebrow.
“What exactly do you think of me?” I continued.
For a split second, I saw something dark flash across her eyes.
But she masked it quickly.
I needed to push further.
“What did you think about becoming my Luna?” I asked carefully.
She scoffed loudly.
Her reaction made Charles stir uneasily inside my head.
“Please let her answer be positive,” I thought desperately.
“What do you mean by becoming your Luna?” she said coldly. “Do I look that desperate?”
Her voice hardened.
“I don’t want to be your Luna.”
The words hit me harder than I expected.
“I just want to never see your face again.”
Something inside me snapped.
Anger surged through my veins.
Charles roared inside my head.
Before I realized it, my hand shot forward and grabbed her by the neck.
“What are you planning, Lyka?” I roared.
But she didn’t flinch.
Not even a little.
Instead, she looked at me with an expression that made my anger falter.
“Go ahead,” she said quietly.
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
“What are you waiting for?” she continued. “Kill me.”
My grip loosened slightly.
“Just like you killed everyone else.”
My mind went blank.
“What…?”
The confusion in my voice was genuine.
What was she talking about?
“What do you mean… I killed everyone?”
