Chapter 123 123
Chapter 123 123
Derrick
“What did you want to discuss?” I asked carefully while swallowing the sudden dryness in my throat.
Honestly, her sitting beside me like this was becoming a serious problem.
She distracted me too easily.
“I want to investigate the person who tried attacking me,” she said casually while running her fingers slowly through my hair.
My body relaxed instinctively beneath her touch.
Then her words fully registered. Immediately, my eyes twitched slightly. Did she suspect something? Was she trying to investigate the past?
No.
That couldn’t be possible. There was no way she knew anything connected to those events.
“I don’t think you need to worry about that anymore,” I said quickly. “The woman who attacked you is already dead, and Scott said there weren’t any useful findings afterward, so maybe you should just let it go... ”
Suddenly, Lyka pressed a cold finger gently against my lips.
“Shhh,” she whispered softly near my ear. “Don’t lie to me.”
Then she lightly bit my earlobe.
Every thought inside my head scattered instantly.
Heat rushed straight through my body so fast it genuinely annoyed me.
Damn this woman.
It felt like my entire brain stopped functioning whenever she touched me like that.
“Actually…” I started speaking before realizing it. “There was something similar years ago during my father’s reign. I was still young back then, but I remember hearing rumors about attacks happening inside the pack…”
Halfway through speaking, realization struck me violently.
My eyes widened.
I completely lowered my guard.
Inside my head, Charles practically purred with amusement.
Pathetic. She controls you too easily.
I glared at Lyka suspiciously.
“What exactly are you doing?” I asked. “Are you trying to seduce information out of me?”
Her lips curled upward immediately.
“Is it working?” she asked innocently.
I sucked in a sharp breath.
Honestly, this woman would kill me someday.
“Are you calling me easy?” I asked in disbelief.
A quiet laugh escaped her.
“No,” she replied smoothly. “I think you’re adorable.”
Before I could even recover from that statement, she stood up gracefully from beside me and walked toward the door.
Then she turned around with a mischievous smile.
“Since you were so eager to leave earlier,” she said sweetly, “why don’t you continue doing that now?”
The next thing I knew...
She shoved me straight out of the room.
The door slammed shut directly in my face. I stared at it blankly for several seconds.
That woman was unbelievably rude. But despite myself…
A faint smile still tugged at my lips.
Then suddenly... The feeling vanished.
My expression darkened immediately as another thought resurfaced inside my head.
The girl who attacked Lyka.
Scott’s report. Something about it felt wrong.
At first, I felt relieved after hearing her death wasn’t directly connected to Lyka anymore. But now that I thought about it carefully…
The entire situation felt suspicious.
Too suspicious.
“Scott,” I mind-linked immediately while walking quickly down the hallway. “Where are you? Come to my chambers right now.”
Thankfully, the connection went through immediately.
Good.
That meant he was still inside the territory.
By the time I reached my room, Scott was already waiting outside.
I motioned for him to enter while organizing my thoughts carefully.
“Something doesn’t add up,” I said immediately after shutting the door. “The investigation surrounding that girl’s death feels incomplete.”
Scott frowned slightly.
“Are you saying her death was staged?” he asked carefully.
I nodded while turning toward him.
But then... Something felt strange. Very strange. His voice. His posture. The atmosphere around him suddenly felt… wrong.
I slowly sat down in my chair while studying him carefully.
“Looks like we overlooked something important,” I muttered coldly.
Scott remained silent briefly.
Then I noticed it.
A faint glint inside his eyes.
Mocking.
Cold.
Unfamiliar.
A chill crawled slowly down my spine.
That wasn’t Scott.
My hand immediately moved toward the sword beside me.
“Scott?” I called carefully.
“Yes, Alpha,” he answered instantly.
The voice sounded correct.
But the feeling behind it wasn’t.
Not even close.
Every instinct inside me screamed danger.
I slowly rose from my chair, my grip tightening around the sword.
“Who are you?” I growled darkly.
For a brief moment, silence filled the room.
Then...
Scott’s lips slowly curled upward into an unnatural smile. An evil smile. And at that moment... I knew for certain.
I wasn’t wrong.
