Chapter 259 259

Chapter 259 259
TARA

Despite my limbs feeling like burning matches, I approached the situation with rage over fear, mixing with determination and hope to get out of this moving car alive.
“You’re really a feisty woman, aren’t you?” He growled, his voice pure ice and filled with anger. With one hand on the steering wheel, the other with the gun, I might have a minuscule chance.
The only thing I could think of right now was to impair him, and I had only one shot at this, or I died.
I couldn’t let panic consume me. I needed to stand on my own, and right now, I was on my own with the monster murderer to think of saving myself, but the fact that I was in my own country surrounded by my people, I would not allow my family to go through another tragedy again.
In a millisecond, I unbuckled my seatbelt, gripped his arm as tight as I could, and pulled him to me. His hand was still gripping the pistol, his finger around the trigger.
The moment I heard him groan, I screamed as loud as I could and bit him just above the wrist so hard that I felt my teeth sink into his flesh and his bone.
He screamed in pain, echoing inside the car. He was behind the wheel, and it would take him seconds to get out of his seat to grab my head, push me away, or pull his bleeding hand.
I squeezed my eyes shut, sinking my teeth deeper until I could taste the blood— the metallic tang of blood. I smelled it. I felt it dripping down my jaw. I could feel the roar of my rage pulsing through my veins, the quivering muscles in my body.
The gun dropped.
For a moment, I lost it in fury. I turned into something unrecognizable even for myself, like I was possessed by an avenging ghost. I was entirely a different person, someone who took her instinct as her tool for her own survival. It felt satisfying and enraging at the same time.
I clenched my teeth harder like a hungry, raging predator just caught its prey, taking its first bite. I pulled that flesh off his bone in a satisfying grunt.
By the time Sawyer got out of the seat, in an instant, I was thrown away. My back hit the backseat hard, and my head flopped backward. My neck muscles instantly screamed from pain.
Gasping, my eyes flew open in panic. Before I realized what was going on, I found myself floating in mid-air. And then my head hit hard again, slamming against the roof of the car. The impact felt like it cracked my skull.
The lights flickered in the car, and everything floated. Still suffering from a headache or maybe a concussion, a face swam in my eyes— the monster’s eyes narrowed at me, dark, cold, and pure evil, screaming revenge.
“I will fucking kill you!” He howled, face grimacing, gripping the wound on his wrist. His blood was dripping like an open faucet.
The moment I regained control of my fear, I kicked him, but he was still strong and fast despite being incapacitated. In a flash, he moved swiftly and quickly. Before I even realized what he was doing, his fingers clamped around my neck, squeezing the life out of me.
I gasped. My throat clenched. I gagged as he choked me hard with his big hands. My panic was uncontrollable as I tried to push his head away, poking his eyes, and it didn’t work. Nothing worked. He put all his strength into breaking my windpipe.
I couldn’t breathe.
I couldn’t breathe.
In seconds, blood rushed in my head. I felt like my brain was exploding, and I began to see the blackness surrounding my vision.
No. He can’t win. He can’t win again. He can’t fucking win!
Then I buried my nails into his wound. I put the last strength I had left into digging his open flesh.
He cried out, his fingers loosening around my neck. Then my fist crashed into his jaw. He reeled back from the blow. I didn’t wait for him to recover. I kicked him in his chest, only to realize the water was entering the car in all corners.
Panic instantly beat in my chest.
We fell off the bridge, and we were sinking so fast. I saw nothing but dark, murky water around us. I might not die in his hands, but in drowning. The water rushed in so fast that it was up to my chest. In December, it was freezing cold, and I began to shake.
While worrying about dying in a drowning, I only realized Sawyer had managed to escape, leaving me alone to drown. The window was rolled down from the driver’s seat, where the water rushed in, and there was no way he would help me or allow me to escape.
I sucked in air, rushing towards the only escape I had, but the time window was over. The button didn’t work anymore. It was stuck. I was stuck while Sawyer watched me with a smirk on his face before he swam away.
My body couldn’t take the freezing temperature anymore. I began to shiver so hard. My involuntary gasping made me weak and slow as I tried to kick the window. Knowing it was bulletproof, I shouldn’t waste my time and strength. I should accept my fate.
No. Not this time.
My heart rate skyrocketed. I inhaled deeply before the water level reached the roof, and within seconds, it entered my nose, and the car turned dark.
I went into hysterics. I screamed underwater.
The fear of dying was instantly blinding me, disorienting me as I couldn’t see anything anymore. I wasn’t going to give up for as long as I breathed.
I moved blindly, prodding towards the front seat, my exit. Before I could swim to the open window, my whole body heaved. My lungs seized, and my right foot stuck.
Surrounded by pitch black, my fate was sealed.
