Chapter 75
The next moment, Sabrina walked over to Alexander with a wronged expression on her face and sat down gently beside him.
"Alexander, did I just disappoint you?"
Before he could respond, she continued pitifully, "Actually, it's not that I don't want to make stomach-soothing porridge for you. I'm just worried that I won't do it well enough."
"I thought, since Lisaspent years watching Charlotte make porridge and is experienced with kitchen work, the porridge she makes would naturally be much better than mine."
Sabrina kept glancing at Alexander's expression as she spoke, "I just never expected Lisa to be so... hostile about it."
"Don't worry though, if she won't make it, I will."
"As long as you don't mind my clumsy cooking, I'll wake up at dawn every single day to make your porridge."
Hearing these words and seeing her pale little face, Alexander's heart finally softened.
Sabrina had made such a big sacrifice for him back then—how could she possibly be unwilling to make porridge for him now?
He had completely misjudged her.
"How could I possibly blame you?"
"But your health isn't good either. Waking up at dawn to slave over a stove will ruin your constitution. Let's just forget it."
"No way." Sabrina became stubborn instead, "You need to eat properly, otherwise when your stomach hurts, I'll feel bad."
"Alexander, just wait. From now on, you'll eat only the porridge I make for you."
Seeing her rare, endearing display of stubbornness, a profound warmth washed over Alexander. Even the dull ache in his stomach seemed to instantly dissipate.
Down the hall, Lisa was just pulling down her bedcovers when a sharp knock rattled her door.
"Miss Spencer?" Lisa's polite smile vanished the second she opened the door to find Sabrina standing in the hallway.
Sabrina gave her an indifferent glance and walked straight into the room, "Let's talk."
She was already parading around like the undisputed mistress of the Forbes mansion.
"Miss Spencer, please make this quick. I have to get up early tomorrow to prepare breakfast."
Sabrina slowly turned around, raised her eyebrows, looked Lisa up and down, then held out her palm, "Take it."
After seeing clearly what was in her hand, Lisa couldn't help but gasp, "A bank card? Miss Spencer, what do you mean by this?"
A faint mocking smile played at the corner of Sabrina's mouth, "Nothing much, just want you to get up early from now on to make porridge for Alexander."
Lisa's expression changed, "But just now I already..."
"There's five hundred thousand in here. In exchange for you making stomach-soothing porridge for Alexander for three months. That's a good deal, right?"
Half a million? Just to wake up two hours early and boil some rice for ninety days?
This money came way too easily, didn't it?
You have to know, managing household affairs at the Forbes Family, she only made thirty thousand a month.
Although that was already a lot in River City, compared to the five hundred thousand in front of her, it was nothing.
What's more, her child had just gotten into college, and there would be plenty of expenses ahead.
Lisa wavered a bit, "Is it really that simple?"
Sabrina let out a light, breathy laugh, heavy with disdain. "It really is."
The fight drained out of the older woman. "Alright. I'll do it."
Sabrina snorted and held up the bank card high between two fingers, "Then, we have a deal."
Lisa rubbed her hands together and nervously reached out.
Just as the bank card was about to fall into Lisa's hand, Sabrina suddenly paused, "Oh right, there's one more thing you need to pay attention to."
Looking at the bank card about to be in her hands, Lisa felt uncomfortable but still softened her tone, "What else do you need? Just tell me."
Looking down at the housekeeper—whose defiant attitude from the kitchen had completely evaporated, Sabrina felt a rush of absolute supremacy.
Sure enough, money was the answer to everything.
"From now on, once the porridge is finished, you will leave it in the kitchen and wait for me to retrieve it. When Alexander asks, just say I specially got up early to make. Understood?"
"Got it?"
Lisa froze for a moment, then came to her senses and nodded vigorously, "Miss Spencer, don't worry, I'll remember."
Satisfied by the woman's groveling, Sabrina smiled and dropped the card into Lisa's waiting hand like a queen tossing bread to a peasant, "The password is six eights."
"Alright, I'm going back to sleep now. Have the porridge ready on time tomorrow."
Lisa lowered her head, "Yes, miss."
After leaving Lisa's room, Sabrina looked back with a light, dismissive glance.
'Did a lowly servant really think she could outplay me?' she thought.
The day passed in the blink of an eye.
Finally, it was time for the Forbes Group to hold a press conference for the new Design Director Sabrina's personal exhibition.
Early in the morning, the Forbes Group's press conference venue was already packed with people, bustling with activity.
Across town, Charlotte had also gotten dressed at her apartment, and after checking the contents of her purse one more time, headed straight to the Forbes Group accompanied by Jenna.
Charlotte had meticulously plotted this exact moment.
She hadn't leaked the stolen design evidence online for one simple reason: Alexander's ruthless PR machine would have immediately throttled the algorithm, scrubbed the internet, and buried the story before it could catch fire
That wasn't the result she wanted.
Today, however, the Forbes Group had definitely invited all the media in River City to build momentum for Sabrina.
When that time came, as long as she publicly revealed the evidence in front of everyone, those media outlets would definitely rush to broadcast it live.
That way, no matter how much Alexander tried to suppress it, it would be too late.
