Chapter 52
Since she'd promised Owen she would pick him up from school today, Sabrina packed up her things right on time to leave work.
But just as she was about to go, Alexander, who'd been busy all day, suddenly showed up saying he wanted to come with her to pick up Owen.
Though a bit puzzled, Sabrina was more than happy to go with Alexander.
Soon, the two arrived at the kindergarten.
However, after picking up Owen, Alexander didn't leave right away. Instead, he sat in the car, lost in thought.
Even when Owen asked him questions, his answers were completely off-topic.
Watching Alexander like this, Sabrina seemed to guess something.
Sure enough, when a figure appeared, Alexander immediately rushed out of the car: "Sabrina, you and Owen wait in the car. I'll be right back."
Looking at the direction Alexander was chasing, Sabrina bit her lip hard in frustration.
She quickly got out and chased after him: "Alexander!"
Hearing the call, Alexander frowned."Sabrina, if it's nothing urgent, save it for when we get back."
But Sabrina took the chance to catch up to him, pretending to stumble.
Alexander hurriedly reached out to steady her: "Careful."
Sabrina looked shaken as she slowly pushed herself up from Alexander's arms: "Alexander, are you going to apologize to Charlotte? How about I come with you?"
Alexander glanced at her: "No need, go back and wait in the car."
With that, he chased after Charlotte without looking back.
Watching Alexander's retreating figure, Sabrina's eyes quickly darkened.
Want to make up with Charlotte? No way!
Not far away, Alexander called out, "Charlotte!"
Hearing the familiar voice behind her, Charlotte only felt annoyed.
She'd deliberately come a few minutes late to pick up Philip just to avoid running into people she didn't want to see, but unexpectedly, he still caught up with her.
Hearing him getting closer, Charlotte began to regret having the driver park the car so far away.
While she was feeling frustrated, a shadow fell over her—Alexander had already blocked her path.
"Charlotte, about yesterday, I was careless..."
Charlotte looked up, meeting his gaze directly: "What happened yesterday? I don't remember."
Alexander just assumed she was still upset, so he took a deep breath and deliberately lowered his voice: "Yesterday I was too busy, that's why I forgot to go to the cemetery with you."
"But Grandma already scolded me yesterday. Charlotte, let's make up, okay?"
Looking at Alexander's self-righteous face, Charlotte felt increasingly disgusted and just wanted to leave as soon as possible."Mr. Forbes, you're so busy with important matters. It's normal to occasionally forget some trivial things."
Alexander's face darkened, and he was about to explain when Charlotte cut him off: "As for making up, that's impossible."
"Charlotte, listen to me..."
As he spoke, Alexander reached out to take Charlotte's hand.
Charlotte was about to dodge when Philip, quicker than her, slapped Alexander's hand away hard: "Don't touch Charlotte!"
Charlotte looked at Philip's defensive face, then at Alexander's restrained expression: "Philip, wait here for me. I'll be right back."
After instructing Philip, she turned to Alexander with a cold face. "Let's talk over there. Don't scare Philip."
With that, she walked toward the other side without looking back.
After exchanging a glance with the hostile Philip, Alexander quickly followed.
As soon as he got close, Alexander pulled out something he'd prepared: "I didn't think things through before, but don't worry, Sabrina will move out tomorrow."
"And this handkerchief, you left it that day..."
Charlotte stared at the neatly folded handkerchief in Alexander's hand but never took it: "I don't care whether Sabrina leaves or not."
"And this handkerchief, you should keep it."
Alexander couldn't help but frown.
But he said nothing more, just silently unfolded the handkerchief layer by layer, revealing the ring and black bank card wrapped inside.
The wedding ring?
A flash of impatience flickered in Charlotte's eyes, as if she'd guessed the purpose of Alexander's visit.
"Grandma said we should make our marriage work."
As Alexander spoke, he picked up the ring, about to put it on Charlotte's finger.
Charlotte quickly pulled her hand back: "I'll be good to Grandma from now on, but you should keep this ring and bank card yourself."
Alexander froze, his hand suspended in mid-air.
After a long moment, he came to his senses, looking incredulous. "Charlotte, I've already apologized to you. How long are you going to stay mad?"
Could he really not understand what she was saying? He still thought she was just upset with him!
Alexander asked again, frustrated: "Do I have to beg you on my knees before you'll let this go?"
Alexander was actually thinking about begging someone?
"Beg me on your knees? That's not a bad idea."
"I remember you've always been the one forcing others to bow down. If I get a chance to see you groveling and begging, I won't refuse."
Watching Alexander's face gradually turn dark, Charlotte added unhurriedly: "Also, you asked what it would take for me to let this go? Divorce. I just want a divorce."
Alexander snapped: "Charlotte!"
His fists clenched then suddenly relaxed: "Fine, go home and think it over carefully. I'll wait for your answer."
With that, he shoved the handkerchief along with the ring and bank card into Charlotte's hands.
Charlotte was stunned for a moment, then quickly chased after him: "Alexander, I can't accept these things. Take them back."
Alexander, who had been walking faster and faster, suddenly turned around, his tone tinged with coldness. "I never take back what I've given. If you don't want them, just throw them away."
Deep down, Alexander felt Charlotte was just putting on an act, wanting him to coax her more.
But having lived thirty years in comfort and privilege, accustomed to being superior, apologizing to her face just now was already his limit. If she kept this up, he really would run out of patience.
So he simply laid down the harsh words to let Charlotte know she couldn't keep trampling on his boundaries.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished, Charlotte withdrew her hand and turned to walk away.
She must be crazy about him after all.
Otherwise, why would she keep an ordinary handkerchief for so long? And keep it in such good condition?
Just then, Alexander's gaze suddenly froze.
