Chapter 150
It was rare for Elara to come home early, but seeing Cynthia’s furious expression, she hurried over.
While feigning attentiveness and massaging Cynthia's shoulders, she probed, "Mom, didn't you say you were going to meet up with Mrs. Howard and the others? Why are you back so soon?"
"Did someone upset you again?"
Cynthia snorted: "Who else could it be? Alexander, of course."
Elara's curiosity immediately kicked in.
Alexander had been better than ordinary people since childhood, and later became the head of the Forbes Group, so whenever Cynthia mentioned him, she always looked proud.
Why was she acting so unusual today? What on earth had happened?
Cynthia had just endured a round of open and veiled mockery from those society ladies, and she was holding back a belly full of anger.
Now that Elara asked, she couldn't hold it in anymore and poured everything out.
After finishing, Cynthia still wasn't satisfied and cursed Sabrina harshly: "Is the Spencer Family's daughter unable to get married or something?"
"Wasn't it enough to push Charlotte on us? Now they want to add Sabrina too? This is driving me crazy."
Elara grimaced and cautiously tried to reason: "Mom, didn't you say before that Sabrina graduated from a top school and has a respectable career, much better than Charlotte?"
Cynthia spat: "There are plenty of people better than Charlotte!"
"And besides, with Alexander's status, what kind of good woman couldn't he get!"
"Plus, Alexander hasn't even officially divorced Charlotte yet, and now this happens, making me the laughingstock of those ladies!"
Cynthia got angrier as she spoke and suddenly stood up from the sofa: "No way! I'm going to my room to call Alexander and tell him to kick Sabrina out!"
With that, Cynthia marched upstairs, and Elara couldn't stop her even if she tried.
Watching Cynthia's back, Elara couldn't help but scratch her ear in distress.
Sabrina was pretty good - smart and capable, much better than Charlotte. Why didn't Cynthia like her either?
As soon as Alexander walked in the door, he yanked off his tie forcefully.
Today really was one thing after another going wrong.
First the exhibition incident, then the scheduled meeting that fell through, and on top of that, Cynthia had to call and nag him.
After Sabrina came back with him, she didn't dare say a word.
It wasn't until she saw Alexander pinching his temples, looking exhausted, that she tiptoed behind him and was about to reach out her hand.
"Sabrina, no need."
Sabrina's hand froze in mid-air, and her expression immediately turned ugly.
Alexander had actually rejected her!
How dare he!
Before she could recover, Alexander's voice sounded again: "Sabrina, you're usually so careful. Why did you let someone else keep something so valuable today?"
Sabrina's heart jumped.
But she didn't show anything, just nervously tugged at her clothes, standing in front of Alexander like a student who had done something wrong: "The surveillance suddenly broke down today, and there were too many people. I got flustered for a moment."
Then she slowly raised her head, eyes full of regret: "But I really didn't know Angela had been holding a grudge against Charlotte! If I had known, I would never have let her keep the brooch."
Alexander looked at her quietly without speaking.
Sabrina finally started to panic.
She grabbed Alexander's hand: "Alexander, if you don't believe me, I'll pack my bags and go abroad right now, and never come back."
"That way you can make up with Charlotte and get back together."
With that, she decisively let go of Alexander's hand and was about to turn and go upstairs with a determined look.
But she had only taken a few steps when a large hand from behind pulled her back: "Sabrina, stop it. You know that's not what I meant."
But Sabrina didn't speak. She just stood there stubbornly, quietly looking at Alexander, her eyes gradually reddening.
Seeing her like this, Alexander's heart couldn't help but soften.
A weariness never seen before suddenly appeared in his eyes: "I'm not doubting you. I'm just worried about you."
"Listen to me, stay away from Charlotte from now on, okay?"
Sabrina bit her lip, tears swirling in her eyes.
After a long while, she finally buried herself in Alexander's arms: "Alexander, I'm so scared, scared that even you won't want me anymore."
Feeling the wetness on his shirt, Alexander slowly looked down and gently patted her slightly trembling small body: "I said I would take care of you for life. That will never change."
Sabrina kept her head buried, responding with a heavy nasal sound.
But where Alexander couldn't see, the corners of her thin lips were slowly curving up, revealing a triumphant smile.
That evening, Jordan, who had just performed four surgeries that day, had barely stepped through the door when Lily grabbed onto his leg.
"Jordan, why didn't you pick me up today?"
Jordan smiled and picked her up: "I was very busy today. I'll definitely pick you up when I have time."
Hearing this, Lily immediately kissed his face: "Don't worry, Philip's dad didn't pick him up today either."
"Really? That is good news." Jordan kissed Lily back, and his smile deepened.
Just then, Jordan's sister Megan Howard came out of the kitchen carrying the dinner she had saved for Jordan.
"What are you two secretly talking about?"
But Jordan and Lily looked at each other and said in unison: "Secret."
Jordan had just finished eating when Debra came home.
And as soon as she entered, she let out a long sigh in front of Jordan and Megan: "Charlotte is so pitiful."
Jordan immediately perked up his ears: "Mom, what happened to Charlotte?"
Debra didn't answer right away, but reached out and pinched Jordan's arm: "It's all your fault!"
"If you had been more proactive back then and married Charlotte, none of this would have happened."
Jordan endured the pain without making a sound, because compared to the pain, he was more concerned about Charlotte: "Mom, did something happen to Charlotte?"
But Debra rolled her eyes at him: "Now you care about her?"
Jordan: "Mom—"
Debra then told him what she had heard at the gathering, with some embellishment.
Jordan suddenly stood up: "Alexander has really gone too far!"
Debra agreed wholeheartedly: "Exactly! He knows Charlotte hates Sabrina the most, but he still keeps getting involved with her, and even shows affection openly in front of everyone."
"He's publicly humiliating Charlotte."
Jordan didn't speak this time, but his eyes grew deeper, and his hands gradually clenched into fists.
When he got back to his room, he immediately made a phone call.
"Hello, I need a favor."
