Chapter 130
Hearing Landon's words, Jordan's body stiffened slightly.
However, he quickly recovered.
His clear eyes looked at Landon through his thin lenses with an enigmatic smile. "Mr. Forbes, you actually like candy? What a coincidence—I happen to have some."
As he spoke, he produced a beautifully wrapped chocolate from his pocket and held it out to Landon. "But I'm not sure if it's to your taste?"
Landon didn't flinch or avoid his gaze; he simply looked at him quietly.
After a while, he raised his eyebrows and pushed the candy back. "I've already found the candy I like."
After saying this, he glanced at Jordan meaningfully, then turned and got into the car.
The car had driven quite far when Landon finally glanced at that cool figure in the rearview mirror, his eyes clouded with a hint of coldness.
The next morning, Charlotte suddenly received a call from Nicole, asking her to come back to the estate for dinner that evening.
Just after hanging up, her phone rang again.
As soon as she answered, Landon's deep, pleasant voice came through. "Charlotte, I'll pick you and Philip up tonight."
Charlotte: "Okay."
Landon paused, as if considering something. The silence stretched so long that Charlotte thought he'd forgotten to hang up before his voice finally returned. "My mom seems to know about you and Alexander getting divorced."
Charlotte gasped. "How did Grandma find out?"
The last person Charlotte wanted to hurt was Nicole, and she had agreed with Alexander from the start that for the sake of the Forbes Group and Nicole's health, they would wait a year after the official divorce before announcing it.
She didn't expected Nicole to find out this early.
Landon's voice pulled Charlotte back to reality. "It was Cynthia who did it. Apparently, she held a party some time ago and specifically asked her social circles to help scout for a new daughter-in-law candidate."
Landon stopped there. Charlotte was speechless. Truly Alexander's biological mother.
Landon seemed to sense her distress, his voice becoming even deeper. "Don't worry. My mom won't blame you, and I'll help you navigate this, too."
Charlotte pressed her lips together: "Thank you."
After putting down her phone, Charlotte stared at her unfinished sketch, lost in thought.
Nicole was kind and genuinely cared for Charlotte, but at the end of the day, Alexander was her grandson.
She wondered whose side the matriarch would take tonight?
At exactly six o'clock that evening, the three of them arrived at the Forbes estate.
But Charlotte never expected to witness such a a standoff the moment she stepped out of the car.
In front of the estate, the old butler Lester was standing guard with two security guards.
Alexander pointed at Lester, his face dark with rage. "I'm the master here. If you don't move aside, don't blame me for being forceful!"
Lester's tone was humble, but his attitude remained firm. "Mr. Alexander Forbes, these are Mrs. Nicole Forbes's orders. Please don't make things difficult for us servants."
Alexander was furious, while Sabrina stood beside him dabbing away tears. "Alexander, just forget it. I'm not worth it."
Hearing Sabrina's so-called persuasion, Alexander became even more agitated. "I said I'd take care of you for life..."
"Lester, what's going on?" Before Alexander could finish, a voice from behind interrupted him.
"Landon?" Seeing Landon, Alexander looked like he'd seen a savior.
But when his gaze fell on Charlotte standing behind him, his eyes suddenly turned cold.
He hadn't forgotten that it was Charlotte who secretly slandered Sabrina to Jordan, which made Jordan quite critical of Sabrina now.
And tonight, coming back to the estate for dinner, Lester was guarding the door, refusing to let Sabrina in. He claimed it was Nicole's orders—that tonight was a family dinner, and no guests were permitted.
Anyone could see through such a blatant maneuver—it was clearly targeting Sabrina.
Alexander was convinced that if Charlotte wasn't behind this, he'd never believe it!
At this moment, Charlotte clearly felt Alexander's hostility too.
What had she done to him now? But who cared what he thought anyway?
So Charlotte glared back at him without the slightest courtesy.
After being glared at by Charlotte, Alexander reluctantly looked away and turned to Landon for help. "Landon, Grandma doesn't know who's been gossiping to her. She actually had people guard the entrance to keep Sabrina out. Could you talk to her . Otherwise, Sabrina will be so upset."
Sabrina also looked up with calculated, innocent eyes and moved closer. "Mr. Landon Forbes, you know that like Charlotte, I don't have any other family left. In my heart, all of you—including Mrs. Nicole Forbes—are my family."
Landon glanced at her coolly. "Family who falsely accuses and frames others? Sorry, I wouldn't know anything about that."
Both Sabrina and Alexander were left speechless by Landon's bluntness.
Landon didn't want to look at them anymore and turned back to call Charlotte. "Charlotte, Philip, let's go."
Philip immediately responded cheerfully and pulled Charlotte along. "Charlotte, hurry up, Grandma's waiting for us to eat."
Watching Charlotte walk past him, Alexander couldn't help but snort coldly. "Charlotte, don't think that just because Grandma backs you up—"
Unexpectedly, Charlotte didn't want to hear his nonsense at all. She deliberately raised her voice to Philip, "Philip, did you hear that? Why is there always a fly buzzing around here?"
Philip caught on and nodded vigorously. "I heard it! So annoying."
Alexander's face turned dark. He was about to chase after them with Sabrina and Owen but was promptly stopped by the security guards.
Reluctantly stopping and watching Charlotte's back, Sabrina ground her teeth in hatred.
What's so great about that? Once Nicole dies, let's see who backs you up then!
At this moment, seeing Lester and the others' firm attitude, Alexander had no choice but to turn back and comfort Sabrina: "Sabrina, I'm sorry—"
The more Sabrina hated inside, the more reasonable and understanding she appeared on the surface.
"Alexander, I'm fine. You take Owen inside, don't worry about me."
"Besides, Mrs. Nicole Forbes isn't wrong. I'm not part of the Forbes Family, I shouldn't have come."
Seeing Sabrina's forced smile, Alexander felt even more guilty."Sabrina, it's all my fault for being useless and letting you suffer."
Sabrina held his arm and shook her head earnestly. "Alexander, it's not like that. You've been good enough to me."
"Really, you're the most important person to me, and the best to me."
"You and Owen go in. I'll go back by myself."
With that, she let go, wiped her tears, and turned to leave.
Watching that lonely, fragile figure, Alexander felt his heart clench!
