Chapter 127
In stark contrast to Alexander's anxiety was Jordan's calm composure.
He gave Alexander a meaningful look and handed him a stack of test reports: "She's fine."
Alexander flipped through them quickly, disbelief creeping into his voice. "She's fine? You don't need to comfort me."
Jordan was momentarily speechless: "Take your time, don't rush."
He added more calmly, "there's really nothing wrong with her body. She's nothing like what you described—someone recovering from a serious illness."
Alexander ignored Jordan, continuing to scan the reports on his own.
Finally, when he reached the last page, he let out a faint breath of relief.
But his expression was still full of worry: "The reports may not show any problems, but when I went abroad to bring her back, that foreign expert specifically warned her to take good care of herself, or there would be serious consequences."
"After we returned to River City, I took her to other specialists too. They said the same thing."
"Even recently... because of Charlotte, she was frightened. The doctor said she only had six months left."
When Alexander reached this point, his voice faltered. Guilt crept in, and he stopped mid-sentence, unable to continue.
Jordan stared at him, completely baffled.
Just from a little fright... she only had six months to live?
And from Sabrina's behavior these two times, it wasn't even clear she was truly frightened in the first place.
Jordan thought this to himself, but said aloud, "In that case, do you have that foreign expert's contact information? I'll speak with him."
Alexander immediately set the test reports aside and found the number.
Jordan glanced at it briefly, memorized it, and dialed directly.
Soon, the call connected.
After a few words, Jordan hung up.
Strange... even that foreign cardiology expert is saying the same thing. It seemed they needed to be cautious until the situation was confirmed.
He cleared his throat and looked back at Alexander. "According to that expert, Sabrina does have lingering effects from her previous serious illness and will need careful management going forward."
Alexander lifted his gaze, his expression unusually direct. "How could I possibly lie to you? So do you have any solutions now?"
Jordan shook his head gently, thinking for a moment before answering. "I'm also very confused right now, because according to the test reports, there's really nothing wrong with her."
Alexander opened his mouth to argue, but Jordan raised his hand to stop him.
Jordan continued: "From what we know so far, we can approach this from two angles."
"First, find her a specialized psychologist."
"Second, we bring in a top physician to help stabilize her physical condition. If her overall health improves, some of these symptoms may resolve naturally."
Alexander frowned: "Are you saying Sabrina might be dealing with a psychological issue that triggers physical reactions under stress?"
Jordan nodded: "I'm just speculating."
Alexander thought for a long while before finally looking up: "Alright, whatever the method, we have to try."
Jordan silently grumbled to himself.
So the rumors were true after all, Alexander was really invested in Sabrina.
After a slight smile, Jordan was about to see Alexander out.
But after only a couple of steps, Alexander suddenly stopped and turned back, looking at him intently.
"Jordan, why are you acting so strange today?"
Jordan fell silent.
But Alexander didn't seem to expect an answer and went on anyway. "You specifically told me not to bring Sabrina along. Is it because someone said something bad about her to you?"
Jordan finally understood the purpose of Alexander's words.
He was defending Sabrina.
He had to admit, it was genuinely thoughtful.
He gave Alexander another meaningful look. "You mean Charlotte, right?"
Hearing Jordan's words, Alexander was immediately certain that Charlotte had twisted the facts in front of Jordan last night.
Deliberately slandering Sabrina to make Jordan dislike her.
Charlotte was too calculating.
While sighing inwardly, still tried to defend her. "Actually, Sabrina is a very innocent and kind girl, not like Charlotte—"
Jordan didn't seem interested in continuing the conversation. His attention drifted instead to surgical details, already shifting into work mode as he mentally reviewed the next procedure.
Only when Alexander stopped speaking did he respond with a half-smile: "If that's what you say, then so be it."
Without further comment, he turned directly toward the operating room. "I have another surgery, so I won't see you out."
Seven years had passed, and Alexander still didn't measure up to Landon.
If Landon hadn't given up back then, Alexander would never have had the chance to become CEO of the Forbes Group.
Unfortunately, Landon chose to give up.
Meanwhile, Alexander sat in his car, deep in thought.
Finding a professional psychologist wouldn't be difficult, but securing a truly reputable, highly skilled physician was another matter entirely.
He suddenly thought of that renowned doctor where Charlotte had once purchased medication!
He'd try him.
But after what happened last time, it was obvious the doctor didn't hold a favorable opinion of Sabrina. It seemed he could only work through Charlotte, having her help Sabrina make the connection.
After all, if not for her, Sabrina's condition wouldn't have worsened, and Jordan might not have turned against her.
So he was giving Charlotte a chance to make it up to Sabrina.
That's what he'd do.
When he had time, he'd have a proper talk with Charlotte and also ask her to clear things up for Sabrina in front of Jordan.
Once things were cleared up, Sabrina would no longer feel wronged, which would be beneficial for her health too.
Having made up his mind, Alexander instantly felt much more at ease..
The next afternoon, Charlotte actually received a call from Amanda.
On the phone, Amanda shared good news—Maurice had tried the sleep candle Charlotte gave him on his birthday night, and after trying it for two nights in a row, his insomnia symptoms had actually improved. Now he was planning to continue using it to see if it could completely cure his insomnia.
Hearing the news, Charlotte was very happy as well.
After all, she had felt Maurice and Amanda's support for her that birthday night.
Being naturally grateful, she was sincerely glad for Maurice.
"Mrs. Walker, don't worry. Just let me know when you run out, and I'll send more to Mr. Walker right away."
Hearing Charlotte's response, Amanda grew even happier on the other end of the line and mentioned the other purpose of her call.
It turned out she had already mentioned Charlotte to Mrs. Howard, who was also quite moved. Since Lynn's passing, she hadn't had a chance to share a quiet meal with Charlotte, so she wanted to invite her out for a simple dinner tonight to catch up properly.
Debra Howard? Jordan's mother?
Thinking of Debra's past friendship with Lynn, and how Debra had secretly supported her all these years when visiting the Forbes Family, Charlotte agreed. However, she added that she would like to bring Philip along as well.
Amanda readily agreed.
After arranging the time and place, both parties hung up.
Knowing she was about to meet an elder, Charlotte didn't dare to be careless. She quickly changed into dignified clothes and applied simple, light makeup.
After picking Philip up from kindergarten, she hurried to the location Amanda had arranged.
Because she left in such a hurry, she didn't notice Owen's lingering, slightly jealous gaze behind her.
The meeting place was an upscale members-only club.
After Charlotte gave Amanda's name, a server promptly led her and Philip to a private room.
But the moment she stepped in, Charlotte froze.
