Chapter 110
Sabrina shot a contemptuous glance at the meek and submissive Lisa, then walked out of the kitchen with an air of superiority, carrying the porridge.
Just then, Alexander and Owen came downstairs and took their seats at the dining table.
Sabrina immediately put on a sweet smile and placed the porridge in front of Alexander. "Alexander, the porridge is a bit hot. Drink it slowly."
As she released the bowl, she suddenly gasped.
Alexander's heart skipped a beat. "What's wrong? Did you burn yourself?"
A flash of panic crossed Sabrina's eyes as she quickly hid her hand behind her back. "No, I didn't."
At that moment, Lisa approached, carrying a plate of sandwiches.
Seeing what had happened, Lisa pressed her lips together but still spoke reluctantly. "Mr. Forbes, Miss Spencer accidentally burned herself while making the porridge."
"You burned yourself? Alexander stood up abruptly. "Lisa, go get the burn ointment!"
Lisa responded and hurried off.
Alexander turned back to Sabrina, his eyes full of concern. "Sabrina, let me see your hand."
Sabrina refused stubbornly. "It’s just a small burn. I'm really fine."
Alexander deliberately hardened his expression. "If you refuse, then I won't drink the stomach-soothing porridge anymore."
Owen slid down from his chair and walked over to Sabrina's side. "Sabrina, you should listen."
Sabrina bit her lip, looking conflicted, but eventually she reluctantly held out her hand.
Seeing the faint red mark from the burn, a trace of guilt flickered in Alexander's eyes. "Sabrina, I'm sorry you had to go through this."
Sabrina forced a brave smile. "Alexander, as long as you're okay, I'm not afraid of anything."
A wave of guilt washed over Alexander.
These past few days, he had been preoccupied with thoughts of Charlotte and had indeed neglected Sabrina.
But that would not happen again.
After all, Sabrina was the one who had been devoted to him from the beginning to the end.
It suddenly occurred to him that perhaps he had never truly seen Charlotte clearly.
Just then, Lisa returned with the burn ointment.
Alexander took it and carefully applied it to Sabrina's hand himself.
Feeling the warmth of his touch, a gleam of triumph flashed across Sabrina's eyes.
It seemed her little scheme had worked.
Alexander's heart was still with her. As long as she occasionally used small tactics to show her quiet sacrifices, his guilt would only deepen, and he would never be able to leave her.
After applying the ointment, Alexander's phone rang.
He glanced at the screen and stepped outside to take the call.
Sabrina was secretly pleased when Owen suddenly asked in a subdued voice. "Sabrina, can you make nutritious soup for me too?"
Turning to Owen’s hopeful face, Sabrina was momentarily speechless.
However, she quickly masked it and asked with concern, "Owen, are you not feeling well? If you’re unwell, you can't eat just anything."
She began counting on her fingers. "Let me think. Fried chicken, chips, ice cream, chocolate. None of these would be allowed."
Owen froze, then quickly shook his head. "No, I'm not sick."
A trace of contempt flashed in Sabrina's eyes, but she still reached out to pat Owen’s head gently. "Owen, I'm very busy with work every day. Making porridge for your dad is already quite demanding."
"Don't be troublesome, alright?"
Owen hesitated before replying softly, "Okay."
He lowered his head, clearly disappointed.
For some reason, he suddenly recalled what the children at kindergarten had said.
Only mothers would take care of their children without worrying about hardship or trouble. Was that really true? Was the person who loved him most actually his mother, not Sabrina?
Sabrina noticed his unhappiness but had no intention of putting in more effort.
So when Alexander returned after finishing his call, she seized the moment and suggested that after dropping Owen off at kindergarten together, they could head to the office as well.
Alexander, still feeling guilty about what had happened earlier, agreed without hesitation.
In the car, Owen remained quiet and downcast.
Sabrina noticed and curled her lip slightly in disdain. Still, to maintain her hold over him, she suppressed her impatience and asked gently. "Owen, what are you thinking about? Are you unhappy?"
After all, he was just a child. At her prompting, he spoke honestly. "The other kids all say that only mothers care about them and make them nutritious soup."
He was about to mention Philip but swallowed the words.
He did not want anyone to know that he was jealous of Philip.
Alexander did not think much of it, but Sabrina immediately sensed something was off.
She had tried so hard to win Owen over, yet he was still thinking about that woman, Charlotte.
Fury surged within her, but she forced herself to endure it, at least until she married Alexander.
Taking a deep breath, she put on a sincere smile. "Owen, when I was receiving treatment abroad, a very famous doctor told me that regular exercise and eating fresh vegetables keeps you healthy."
"And the doctor also said that mood is the most important thing."
"Think about it—aren't you much happier now than before?"
Owen thought about it and finally nodded. "I'm very happy when I'm with you."
Sabrina smiled slowly and knowingly.
Then she asked casually, "By the way, who told you those things you mentioned earlier?"
Owen opened his mouth to answer, but Sabrina interrupted him. "Wait, let me guess. Philip said it, right?"
Owen hesitated. He could not clearly remember if Philip had said it, but it seemed likely, so he gave a vague nod.
Sabrina's smile widened. "Let me guess something else. Philip also brought nutritious soup to kindergarten and ate it in front of you, didn't he?"
Owen's eyes widened in surprise. "Sabrina, you're amazing! How did you guess that?"
Sabrina raised an eyebrow. "Is that really hard to guess? Your mother taught him to do that."
"You mean Mom taught him?" Owen looked shocked.
Sabrina nodded very seriously. "Charlotte put a lot of thought into this. She wants you and your father to realize that without her, you would not even have nutritious soup."
"That way, you will regret it and beg her to come back. Then both of you would have to listen to her."
Owen panicked immediately.
In his mind, he imagined all his favorite foods, fried chicken and chips disappearing.
He would have to go to bed early every night, and he would not be allowed to go out with his father and Sabrina anymore.
Fear gripped him. "No, I don't want Mom to come back!"
Even Alexander, sitting in the passenger seat, frowned slightly. Was Charlotte really using such tactics on Owen? That seemed excessive.
Noticing their reactions, Sabrina turned her head slightly, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.
Charlotte was still too naive.
She only thought about what was best for them, without realizing that men, regardless of age, instinctively dislike being controlled.
The more they are restricted, the more they resist.
Half an hour later, Alexander and Sabrina arrived at the Forbes Group.
Sabrina immediately resumed her role as Alexander’s secretary. She made a cup of coffee and personally brought it to him.
As expected, a hint of gratitude appeared in Alexander’s eyes.
Before she could leave, however, there was a knock on the office door.
