“Leila's point of view"
I stared at the food. Something just doesn't sit well with me.
Alex stared at me, raising a brow. I swallowed nothing, pushing the plate to the side.
He dropped his fork slowly, staring at me.
“What's wrong?” He asked. I shook my head.
" I have an uneasy feeling. Something isn't right" I said. His mouth made a little 'o’.
" Do you have anything in mind exactly?” My eyes dropped to the plate of food.
My suspicions were so sick. The food is the same that has been served since I arrived, with the same set of maids.
But, I still couldn't bring myself to eat of it.
Alex followed my gaze and frowned lightly.
“You don't like the food?" He asked staring at me with those deep blue eyes. I shrugged.
“No, this just feel —" I waved my hands. Yeah, because I couldn't find the right word for what I was feeling.
“You feel like it's poisoned?" He asked and I nodded. Never really thought of that, but it was close to.
He looked at me in disbelief.
“This is the exact thing I'm eating" he pointed out. I sighed, standing up.
" There's no point in this” I muttered turning around. Two weeks gone and everything had been going well between Alex and I.
The last thing I wanted was a fight between us. At least, I still needed him to have sex with me.
Or better still, love making. My feelings for him was growing every day that it scared the living daylight out of me.
But I wasn't going to admit that to my 'contracted’ husband. Not when I'm not sure of his feelings for me.
“Leila, wait" he grabbed my arm stopping me from walking away. I stared at him from beneath my lashes.
He sighed, dropping his hand.
“If it'd make you feel better, I'll taste it myself" he said, my eyes widened.
" No!” My voice was higher than I intended. He glanced at me, confused.
I dabbed my fingers into my hair.
“I think it's poisoned and you want to taste it yourself? Are you kidding me?” I snapped.
Christ, what was wrong with me? I was behaving strangely bitchy today. I knew it.
He straightened up, staring at me resignatedly.
“There's no way this is poisoned, Leila. This house is heavily guarded” he muttered.
I didn't feel convinced, not even in the slightest bit.
" Can we just get the maid who served us to taste the food?" I asked. He hesitated for a moment probably still thinking about convincing me.
“Fine" he mumbled and I sighed.
He signalled to one of the maids who was standing a few feet away from us.
“Get the maid who prepared and served the food” he said, the maid bowed lightly before walking out.
He turned his eyes back to me.
“Leila…”
" Please, just for confirmation” I interrupted. There was an ill feeling in my stomach.
I felt different things at a time.
He narrowed his eyes at me inquisitively.
“Are you okay?" He asked and I nodded even if I felt far from okay.
I closed my eyes, knowing he was still watching me.
The approaching footsteps made me pried my eyes open, just as Alex looked away from me, uncertainty in his eyes.
I was so sure I saw the maid tremble lightly but I dismissed it.
“Taste the food" Alex commanded without mincing words as he pointed at my plate. He folded his hands while I watched the lady.
“S…sir?” She stuttered. Alex and I exchanged looks.
“Taste the food you prepared, is that hard?" He asked and the Lady shook her head.
I was so sure I saw her trembling now.
“Sir, I…I can't” she muttered and I raised a brow.
" You can't? Is it poisoned?" I asked. She shook her head.
" No, it's not”
Alex stood up, he looked scary, towering above the lady.
“Then have a taste" he said. She looked from me to Alex before approaching the table.
I held my breath, I hope it isn't poisoned.
She grabbed my fork, lifting a spoonful to her mouth with trembling fingers.
She had a taste and straightened up. Her eyes dilated for a second.
Alex stared at me, just at the same time I did.
He waved her off.
“Come on then, leave already" he waved her off. I squinted my eyes at the lady, something was off about her.
She bowed lightly before walking away. My eyes followed her.
“You see, it wasn't…”
" Alex. Alex!” I jumped to my feet dashing towards the lady who was shivering. Alex followed behind me.
We were not fast enough as she fell before we got to her, foamy substance followed by blood gushed out of her mouth.
Christ, no way.
Alex hollered at the guards who came rushing in, the lady's eyes turned white before she suddenly stopped shivering and her body went limp.
My eyes widened and my breathing fastened up.
She isn't dead, right? She isn't…
I glanced at Alex who looked helpless, it was the confirmation I needed.
I clamped a hand over my mouth taking a shaky step backwards.
“Take her to the hospital" Alex ordered. The guards lifted the already 'dead’ woman taking her out.
I took another step backwards. That would have been me or Alex.
If I hadn't stopped him from eating it, that would had been Alex.
If I had eaten it, then it would have been me.
Goodness, I would have been dead. It wasn't even up to a minute.
Alex stared up at me from where he squatted.
Another step.
My eyes were shutting out on me. My head, infact my whole body was spinning.
“Leila!" He rushed towards me, I pried my eyes open to see the concern in his.
I was already in his arms. I felt bile at the back of my throat, struggling to overwhelm me.
“Alex… that…” damn! I couldn't even make out a sentence.
He nodded vigorously, holding me tightly to himself.
“I'm sorry I doubted you, okay?" He said. I tried telling him it was okay, but my whole body was failing me.
What the hell was wrong with me?
Black dots filled my vision and I blinked, but couldn't get rid of it.
“You're not passing out, right?" He shook me lightly, from his movement I could tell he was racing up the stairs to our bedroom.
I managed to shake my head, my mouth tasted sour and bitter.
“Shit!" Alex cursed, just when my eyes bailed on me.
