Chapter 30
Jamie POV
I call Liam, Trey, and Andrea to invite the three over for dinner. Crystal calls and orders food delivered. She doesn’t want any staff tonight or tomorrow so we can be all alone. She doesn’t want anyone to know we got married except Liam, Trey, and Andrea for now.
The three arrive for dinner, and Andrea goes to work setting up the table. Crystal is overjoyed to see Liam and Andrea. The three of them stick together. Trey takes me into my office to talk. “What is going on, Trey? You look like you saw a ghost,” I ask him.
“Helen escaped from jail during transport to court this afternoon,” Trey says.
“Crystal is going to freak out when I tell her,” I say.
“The detective called me. Did he not call you?” Trey asks.
“No, but her phone is upstairs; she did not take it with us to the chapel,” I say.
I bolt past Trey and run upstairs to grab Crystal’s phone. I get it off the charger, and there is a missed call from detective Rice. Crystal comes into the bedroom behind. “Why are you running through the house like a madman?” Crystal asks.
“Sweetie, I have to tell you something, and I need you to remain calm; remember you are pregnant, and you do not need to be upset; I am handling everything,” I say to her, holding both of her arms firmly and speaking slowly.
“Jamie, what the hell is going on?” Crystal screams.
Trey, Andrea, and Liam begin screaming downstairs. “Lock this fucking door, and do not come out of this room!” I yell at Crystal as I go downstairs.
As I make my way down the stairs, I hear a gunshot, something hits the floor, and then a woman screams that is not Andrea.
I run into the dining room. Helen is on the floor dead. Liam is shaking. “I shot her, I shot the bitch,” Liam says.
“Go upstairs with Crystal, take Andrea,” I say to him.
Liam, visibly shaken, takes Andrea and goes up the stairs to be with Crystal.
“What should we do?” Trey asks me.
I look down at her dead in my dining room. I am furious with her. Why couldn’t she just let it go? I have no idea what to do. I do not want Liam to go to jail. There is no staff here tonight, and as far as the authorities go, Helen could be anywhere.
“Jamie, I know what to do,” Trey says.
“I do not want Liam to go to jail; it would kill Crystal,” I say to him.
“I know, we do have a client that can handle this,” Trey says.
Trey is right. We defended a cleaner guy for the mob, and he said if I ever needed anything to call him.
“Go to a payphone and call Bob,” I say to Trey.
Trey leaves the house to go to a payphone. I go upstairs to check on everyone. I knock on the door and go into the bedroom.
“Everything will be okay, but I need all of you to stay up here for a while,” I say.
“Am I going to jail?” Liam asks me.
“No, nothing happened here tonight, got it,” I say to him.
Crystal is sitting on the bed crying. I go over to her. I kiss her on the forehead, “Everything will be fine if Liam can keep a secret,” I say to her.
She nods her head. “Andrea, I need you to explain to Liam who Bob is while we handle all of this and keep everyone up here; you know they don’t like witnesses,” I say to Andrea.
Trey comes back from the payphone. “Did you see a car or anything that she might have come here in tonight?” I ask him.
“No, she must have walked. Bob is on his way. We need to go upstairs and stay out of the way until they are done,” Trey says.
We go upstairs. Trey takes Andrea into the small bedroom. Liam sits on the floor in our bedroom. I hold Crystal. We stay hidden for hours. Finally, we hear the front door close, and I hear Trey making his way down the stairs. He runs back up to our bedroom. “We are clear,” Trey says.
The five of us go back down the stairs. “We should go somewhere in case they trace her back to the house,” Crystal says.
“She is right; we can always so that we were out celebrating your nuptials,” Andrea says.
The five of us lock the house and go out to the garage. We take the SUV and drive uptown to eat dinner. No one says a word about Helen. We all pretend like it never happened. The bitch got what she deserved in the end.
Six months later, Crystal delivers a happy, healthy baby boy who we name Liam Trey King. She never spoke of the past or the bad things that happened. We decide to live our lives at the moment to love one another and be happy. She will forever be my little miss, and I will forever be her daddy.
