Chapter 39.
Kim was seated at the edge of her chair on the lookout for Jake in the cafe. He called her suddenly and asked to meet her somewhere close and although she was reluctant to go, she needed to see him anyways.
She wanted to demand more money from him. She needed another huge sum of money in ensuring that her plan against making Holly suffer worked.
The fact that Holly had the guts to hit her had only made Kim even more enraged and she planned to especially make sure Holly suffered enough for even thinking of raising her hand to hit her.
The Holly she knew would have never lifted a finger.
Reggie was a crook and a bastard and he was exploiting her desperation. Kim begrudgingly gave into all his needs. If it would give her everything she needed to send Holly packing and into a permanent state of despair she was going to do it.
After Holly was finally out of the picture she planned to face Ryder and seduce him more. She had to make herself more saint like and blame Holly for a few things for it to work. Kim was confident in her plans and her seduction skills.
After all, if Holly could do it, she could do better. She thought as she reapplied her lipstick.
Maybe she could get enough money from Jake to get Botox, she thought as she checked out her face in her small compact mirror.
In the peace of the afternoon with the quiet chatter of the cafe, the shrill scream of the telephone pierced the ambience and Kim retrieved her phone from her purse as she checked out the caller ID.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, it was the old married man she was seeing, Luther. She had an appointment with him later.
"Not now, Old Man." She muttered as she put her phone on mute and placed it facing upwards on the table.
Jake walked into the cafe with anger in his eyes and rage in his steps as he clumsily sat in a seat across Kim.
He just went through intensive thorough interrogation with the police and after a convincing argument by his lawyer and a quick bail out that was the only thing that kept him from spending the night in jail. But he was thoroughly warned not to leave the country or whatsoever till he met with the police again.
A case had been formed and the hearing was coming in barely a week, Jake had to think fast before Ryder nailed him to the cross and with everything he was seeing, Ryder had enough evidence to send him to jail and with the hefty amount of money that he had to pay for his bail, things were already not looking good.
"Why did you call me? What's up?"
"Besides, I need more money. I was going to tell you on the phone but I believe now is better."
Kim added with a small sly smile and Jake looked at her with disbelief.
"You, can't be serious right now, you just can't!"
Kim, oblivious to what was going on with Jake shrugged indifferently.
"What do you mean I can't be serious? I need money. I need about a hundred thousand dollars more! Just hurry up and give me the money and I won't snitch."
Kim said with confidence as Jake started laughing.
"Well, go ahead and snitch all you want! Ryder already knows. I was fired today and arrested today too. I'm just coming back from the station."
Jake said with a shrug and Kim's jaw dropped in disbelief.
"How did he find out? What happened?"
Jake shrugged.
"Ryder is smarter than I thought. I should have been more careful with him the moment I found out he was suspicious. But I thought he was too trusting and lazy to do anything and that was my mistake."
Kim placed a hand on her mouth still in shock, this meant many things to her.
"What are you going to do now?" She asked Jake who looked tired and stressed out as hell.
"I have very limited time. I need to escape or run away somehow. I need to do something."
There was a long prolonged silence at their table as the two of them both weighed the gravity of what was happening.
"So, about the money, I think it's best you send it soon before you go to jail."
Jake widened his eyes in disbelief at Kim's statement. There was no remorse on her face, only seriousness and indifference at his situation. The woman was a devil! He thought as he watched her grimly.
"Kim, I am accused of fraud. That means, right now, all my accounts are frozen. I won't have access to them. I know that for sure. All I have is a little cash stashed somewhere and I'm not giving you a dime out of it. In fact, I think this is where we part ways."
Kim furrowed her eyebrows as she glared at Jake.
"I honestly don't give a fuck if you rot in jail. If you don't want me singing like a canary and testifying against you in court, you better shut me up with some money right now! That's the only way I won't run to Ryder and back up his claims."
Jake clenched his fists under his table as his rage at Kim increasingly grew.
"You mistake yourself for someone who actually has a say in the case."
He said lowly as he gritted his teeth. Kim shrugged.
"Oh! It'll shock you just how much dirt I have on you. So I suggest you play along and give me what I want and I won't give Ryder the evidence I've been gathering against you."
Kim said with a smile as she picked up her compact mirror and checked her makeup while Jake looked dumbfounded.
She had evidence on him? He asked himself as he watched her wearily. He was going to have to proceed with caution when it came to Kim Evans. The woman was dangerous.
"Jake Summers?"
A weirdly familiar voice called out and both Kim and Jake looked at the direction it came from.
"Catalina?" Jake said in surprise as she slipped into the seat between them.
"In the flesh! I never thought I'd see you again."
She said as they briefly hugged. Jake was still shocked at her presence while Kim had a sour look on her face.
Who was this beautiful woman that had rudely interrupted their conversation, she asked herself as she stared at the woman with long flowing black hair.
She coughed slightly and Jake and Catalina glanced at her.
"Catalina, this is my friend Kim. Kim, this is Catalina, Ryder's ex girlfriend."
Kim's eyes widened as large as saucepans.
"Is this the one that broke her heart?"
She asked shamelessly and Jake nodded.
"Catalina, what are you doing here? Does Ryder know you're here?"
He asked as Catalina sighed.
"Yes, he does. I went to his place first. And he kicked me out. Apparently he has another woman in his life."
She said with a dejected sigh as Kim's ears perked up.
"Another woman you say? Tell me who she is!" She demanded and Catalina glanced at Jake who shrugged.
"Some woman named Holly, I don't know who she is but while I was crashing at Ryder's she came over to see him. It's because of her Ryder doesn't want me back."
"Jake! You have to help me get him back! Please! I know he listens to you, talk to him or something."
Catalina begged with tears in her eyes as she looked to Jake for help.
Jake kept quiet, not quite knowing how to break the news of he and Ryder not being friends to her.
"What happened Catalina, aren't you married? Last I heard, you were in Dubai living the good life."
Catalina shook her head.
"I'm divorced now. And my cruel ex husband didn't give me a dime! I didn't know that was what the prenup and all the strange contracts he made me sign."
Kim looked at the woman.
"The Holly we're talking about, tell me, is she fat? Brunette?"
Kim asked curiously and Catalina nodded furiously.
"Yes, she is. I don't know what Ryder sees in her! Apparently the fat bitch is carrying his baby now." Catalina said in anger and Kim coughed violently.
When her coughing fit was over, she glanced at Jake who looked as shocked as she was and Catalina.
"You're telling me that Holly is carrying Ryder's baby? Please tell me it's not true."
She begged as Catalina shrugged.
"It's true. I saw the pregnancy test results with my own eyes."
