I stood among the maids as they were adjusting the dress that was worn on me. The deep green emerald dress fitted me perfectly, but I felt a bit itchy. Probably because I was very nervous about everything. Why would he want me to be his plus one? What will they say about me when they see me? As soon as they know I am an omega with no wolf, the mistreatment will start all over again. But this time, nothing will be holding me from leaving.
“Ma’am, we’re done dressing you up”. I looked in the mirror and saw an entirely new person. I have never worn something like this before. I didn’t know I could look this good.
“You look so beautiful, ma.”
“Thank you”
I swayed my blonde hair, admiring how it was arranged. These maids are talented. Why do they choose to work here?
They opened the door for me, and I was too nervous to move. I took in a deep breath and exhaled before I made my way out of the room. When I reached the mouth of the staircase that led to the ballroom, I could already see lots of people. They were all dressed in such beautiful attires, and I really felt out of place. If I turned back, Terran would probably be looking for me, and I wouldn’t want that.
“Get it together”
I held the railings as I walked down the stairs, scared that the high heels would make me trip and embarrass myself. When I got in view, I admired the decoration of the ballroom. Beautiful chandeliers were on the ceiling. A fountain of drinks on a table, and the sound of the soothing music played by some musicians at the far corner.
Before I could enjoy the view, a pair of eyes turned towards me. They looked at my dress in awe. I held on to the edges of the dress, and my palm was sweaty.
Can the earth open up and swallow me already?
I came in contact with the crowd, people staring at me. I don’t know anyone, so I looked for where I could get a drink to cool my nerves. I saw one of the waiters carrying drinks around and I took one. I took it all in one gulp and almost puked.
What kind of drink is this? It felt so hot and bitter at the back of my throat. I cleaned my mouth, still trying to avoid the stares. What are they talking about?
“Who are you?” a woman approached me. Her dress looked so…over the top. Most of her cleavage was showing, it was as if it was going to pop out of the dress anytime soon.
“I…I…am…”
“What? You don’t know how to speak?”
She said in a higher tone, which attracted more people to stare at us. Oh no. Where was Terran when I needed him?
“I am new to the park”
“We know you are new to the park dummy. Where did you get that dress?”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me.”
“I…don’t know what you mean.” I stammered as I looked around the crowd, hoping to see a familiar face, even if it was just a maid or a guard. I need to leave here immediately.
“What is going on here?”
When I heard that voice, I felt relief wash over me. Terran walked as the crowd made way for him. He was dressed in a sleek black suit that fitted him perfectly, the silver embroidery along the lapels and cuffs matched the designs on my gown. If anyone saw us together, they would think we were a couple. I shook that thought away.
When he reached me, he gave me a small smile, “Zephyrine, you look so breathtaking.”
I felt my face blush at his remarks.
“Thank you.” I said, the nervousness in my tone had wavered. He extended his ars, and I slipped mine through it arms I could feel his strong muscled arm through the fabric of his cloth.
“Who is she?” The woman that was interrogating me earlier looked at us, especially at our linked arms.
He didn’t answer her as he faced the crowd.
“Everyone. I would like you to meet Zephyrine. She is a new member of the pack. Make sure she feels welcome.”
The crowd began to murmur loudly. He turned back to the woman. “And she is also my plus one. I hope you will respect that.”
The woman looked like she was about to blow and give me a beating, but some women came forward and took her away.
“Sorry about that. My pack is always wary of new faces.” He said, reassuring me.
“It’s no problem. I get it.”
It was clear that Terran’s authority couldn’t be questioned. I mean…he is the alpha.
“You belong here, whether they all realize it or not.”
The crowd parted ways for use as he led me to some of the members of the pack.
Although Terran was the one doing most of the talking, I was distracted by the melodious music in the background. I was still nervous, but it was as less as it was before.
Suddenly, a man approached Terran and whispered in his ear. I noticed the sudden change in his expression, his eyes turning cold. But it passed in the blink of an eye.
“Did something happen?” I asked, worried.
His face became neutral as he gave me a slight smile.
“There is some disturbance at the front. I have to go and check it out. Hope you will be alright?”
He wants to leave me here? Alone?
I nodded, forcing a smile. “I’ll be fine. Go handle it.”
He paused, looked at me for a moment longer before he turned and disappeared into the crowd.
Oh, gosh…I am not going to be fine.
Before I could dwell on my uneasiness, I noticed some women approaching.
Not again…
I was waiting for some kind of interrogation from them, but instead, they greeted me with smiles, asking me questions. Even though I was a bit shocked at their approach, their friendliness helped ease some of my anxiety.
It’s not that bad after all.
But my happiness didn’t last long when a painful curling scream cut through the air. Every became silent, their faces at the direction of the noise.
What was that?
Before anyone could make a sound , a panicked scream rang out.
“Intruders! The pack is under attack”
