CHAPTER 61

CHAPTER 61
RAUL’S POV

As the staff gathered in the drawing room, Marissa and I stood off to the side, watching each member file in. My patience was wearing thin, but I kept my frustration masked behind a calm façade. One by one, they were questioned about the doll and the ominous note left in Marissa’s room. Each response was a variation of ignorance, and with each denial, the knot in my stomach tightened.

"We’re missing something," Marissa said, her pacing picking up speed. "There has to be a clue we're not seeing.”

I observed her, my mind racing through possible scenarios. "What about the delivery methods? Could it have been placed there by someone posing as a messenger?"

Marissa halted her pacing, her brow furrowing in thought. "It's possible. We should check if any deliveries were made today."

I nodded, signaling Benjamin over. "I want a list of all deliveries made to the house today," I instructed him. "And find out if any of the staff noticed anything unusual.”

Benjamin nodded, quickly jotting down the request before hurrying off to gather the information. I turned back to Marissa, trying to project confidence. "We'll get to the bottom of this. We just need to be thorough."

Hours passed as we combed through the details, but it was as if the threat had appeared out of nowhere. Marissa's frustration was palpable, and I shared her sentiment.

"We're not getting anywhere," she muttered, running a hand through her hair. "We need to think outside the box.”

"Agreed," I said, leaning back in my chair. "We need to consider every possibility."

Marissa's eyes lit up suddenly. "What about the uncle Damien's friend I told you I had met with? I had gotten a card from his office. He might have more information on Damien's whereabouts and his activities."

I nodded, seeing the logic in her suggestion. "It's worth a shot. We need every piece of information we can get.”

Marissa moved to the phone, dialing the number. As she spoke, I watched her, admiring her resolve. She was a force to be reckoned with, and I was grateful to have her by my side.

She hung up the phone, turning back to me. "He's willing to meet us, but we need to be discreet."

"Understood," I said, standing up. "Let's go."

We left the house, keeping a low profile as we made our way to the meeting place. The air was tense, each of us on high alert. When we arrived, the guy was already there, waiting.

"Thank you for meeting us," Marissa said, her voice calm but firm.

The man nodded, his eyes shifting nervously. "I don't have much time. I've told you where Damien's hiding, What more do you need to know?"

"We need more information on Damien, I think he knows we are into him, we need something more concrete," I said, cutting to the chase. "Anything you have."

The man hesitated, then spoke quickly. "Damien has been moving a lot recently. He's been recruiting and expanding his influence. He's dangerous, and he won't stop until he gets what he wants.”

"Do you know where he is now?" Marissa asked, her tone urgent.

The man nodded. "He's in a safe house on the outskirts of town as I have told you. But be careful. It's heavily guarded."

"Thank you," I said, shaking his hand. "You've been a great help."

As we left the meeting, Marissa turned to me, her expression determined. "We have to act fast. If Damien knows we're onto him, he'll disappear again.”

"I know," I said, my mind already racing with plans. "We'll gather our forces and hit him hard."

Marissa nodded, her resolve clear. "Together."

We headed back to the house, and the moment we entered, we were greeted by Benjamin, who looked like he had something urgent to say.

"Alpha, Luna," he called, bowing his head in respect. "I've been waiting for you. I found something while watching the CCTV footage about the person who delivered the package found in Luna's room," He reported, and I nodded for him to continue.

He hesitated for a moment but finally spoke. "I saw Liana on the CCTV footage with a box, and she was moving discreetly. It looked like she had deleted the other footage, which is why it was hard to find her. I also confirmed that she was here from one of the cleaners," He explained, and my breathing stopped at the revelation.

As Benjamin's words sank in, a wave of disbelief and anger surged through me. Liana had been my close friend since we were little, and now she had betrayed me and our friendship.

Marissa's eyes widened a little in shock, but she didn't look that surprised. It was like she expected it.

"Where is she now?" I asked, my voice hard and unyielding.

"She's in her quarters," Benjamin replied. "She hasn't left since the package was delivered.”

I nodded, already heading towards her house. Marissa was right beside me, her expression unreadable. Benjamin followed closely, ready to assist in whatever came next.

We reached Liana's quarters, and I knocked on the door firmly. It took a moment, but then the door creaked open and Liana appeared, her face paling when she saw us.

"Raul," she stammered. "What are you doing here at this time?”

"We need to talk," I replied, my tone leaving no room for arguments. "Inside."

She didn't utter a word and stepped aside, allowing us to enter. I could see from the corner of my eye as she eyed Marissa, who didn't even glance at her.

Her house was tidy as always, even though it had been a long time since I came here. She had been angry with me since Marissa came into my life and had been avoiding me since I told her I couldn't have any feelings for her.

I turned to face her after she shut the door, my eyes boring into hers.

"Liana, I would cut to the chase of why we are here. We know that you delivered a package to Marissa’s room. Why did you do it?" I asked, watching her closely for any sign of deceit.

Her eyes flickered with panic, but she immediately masked it, looking between me and Marissa. "I... I don't know what you are talking about," she replied, trying to sound confident, but her shaky voice gave her away.

"Don't lie to me," I said, my voice growing harsher. "We have seen the CCTV footage of you carrying the box. Tell us the truth now," I growled, my eyes darkening.

I think that scared her a bit because her shoulders slumped and she let out a shaky breath. "I was the one who delivered the package to her room," she mumbled, looking down in shame.

"Who put you up to it?" I asked, glaring at her. I didn't believe she would do it alone.

"No one. I did it by myself," she replied quickly, but I didn't buy it. How did she know about Marissa's past?

"Stop lying, Liana, unless you want me to do something we'll both regret," I threatened.

"I swear I did it alone, Raul. I was angry that she beat me in a match, humiliating me in front of the whole pack, and I wanted to scare her a bit," she responded and I knew she was lying.

I have known her for years and I know when she is not telling the truth.

"Then how did you know about her past?" I asked, but she kept silent, avoiding my gaze.

"Benjamin," I called.

"Yes, Alpha," he responded, gazing at me.

"Lock Liana in the dungeon and don't give her any food or water until she's ready to talk," I ordered. I could see Liana’s eyes pleading with me not to do this, but I looked away, locking up my emotions.

I watched as Benjamin dragged her away, and she didn't fight him. I turned to Marissa, who had been quiet throughout the exchange and nodded at her.
