CHAPTER 49
CHAPTER 49
MARISSA'S POV
As we walked to Cantele Lake, I found myself constantly glancing at Raul. My mind was filled with thoughts, and I knew I had to trust him completely. Raul was not just a great guy, but a good mate who deserved my trust. The decision to tell him everything felt right and I wanted our relationship to be built on trust.
When I had finally told Raul everything earlier, I felt relief wash over me like a cleansing rain. Even if I hadn’t shared everything with him, I wanted to trust him with my life and hope he does the same, even if there was one thing I couldn’t bring myself to tell him: the visions. It didn’t feel right, not yet.
As we approached Cantele Lake, the moonlight shimmered on the water, casting eerie reflections. Another one of my hidden powers came into play. I could see things clearly from a distance, like a hawk. From where we stood, I could see the heavy guard presence around the facility. I turned to Raul, my heart pounding.
"Raul, how are we going to sneak in without getting noticed? We have to destroy the weapons before anyone notices but this place is heavily guarded and we are outnumbered."
Raul thought for a moment, his brow furrowed. "We need a diversion. I’ll create one on the east side to draw their attention. Meanwhile, you and Evelyn can slip in from the west and plant the explosives that would destroy everything. Once we’re done, we all gather back here and get out as fast as we can,” He let out and everyone nodded their heads
I nodded, the plan solidifying in my mind. “Everyone, please be careful and be safe,” I voiced out my concerns as they nodded again.
Raul looked into my eyes, concern etched on his face. "Be careful, Marissa," he said softly, before pecking my forehead. It was a simple gesture, but it melted my heart.
"Always," I replied, smiling reassuringly.
I watched as Raul moved to his position, but instead of heading to where he stationed me, I lingered.
Earlier, my vision showed something else, something crucial. I had seen Uncle Damien's friend, a man who was very close to him. I believe he holds the key to finding my uncle. Chari confirmed it also, and that was why I was determined to be on this mission.
Uncle Damien was the only one with the answers I seek regarding my mother's death and I needed to uncover it. I was walking behind Evelyn and when I saw she wasn't looking, I slipped away.
My eyes scanned for the place I saw in my vision but I couldn't catch a glimpse of it.
I walked around aimlessly for a while and It felt like forever, but I finally found it. I gently tiptoed into the room and luckily for me, it was empty. I let out the breath I was holding in and quickly began to rummage through the drawers and cabinets.
Frustration began to build in as I found nothing of use.
“Dear moon goddess, have some pity on me and let me find a clue on how to get to Uncle Damien,” I pleaded, wiping the sweat that dripped from my forehead with the back of my plan.
Just as I was about to give up, the door flung open, and I quickly hid behind a large crate.
Peeping through a gap, I saw him: the man from my vision. He looked panicked, throwing things into a bag as he dialed his phone.
"We’ve been attacked! We've lost many men and weapons!" he yelled into the phone the moment the call was answered. I couldn’t hear the response, but it clearly annoyed him as he banged the table in fury.
"Do something unless you want to be dragged down with me, Damien!" he snarled, and my eyes widened at the mention of my uncle's name.
He ended the call, tossing the phone aside. He breathed heavily as he gathered some papers, and I stepped out of hiding.
"You’re not going anywhere, Oliver" I said, my voice firm. He stumbled back, eyes wide with fear.
"Who are you?" He asked, stammering.
"If you answer my questions correctly, you live. Play games with me, and you’ll suffer," I threatened, enjoying the whimper I heard from him.
"What do you want from me? I won’t stop you from destroying this place, just let me live," he begged, and I chuckled darkly.
"I’m not here for this place. I need information, and your answers will determine your fate," I said, watching him nod nervously, sweat dripping down his face.
“I will give you answers, just don't kill me,” He begged.
"Where is Damien?" I demanded and his eyes widened in surprise, darting away quickly.
"I don’t know," he replied, voice shaky.
"Don't test my patience. Where is he?" I growled, my eyes turning red with anger. His silence pushed me to the edge. With a swift motion, I let my power seep out, the room growing colder. He cried out, peeing his pants in fear.
Alright! Alright! I’ll tell you!" he sobbed. "Damien is in the old warehouse by the docks. He’s been hiding there, trying to avoid the hunters."
“The hunters? Who are those?” I asked, my curiosity piqued.
“They are among the leaders of these places and Damien is in some kind of trouble,” I confessed, shaking. I wanted to ask more but stopped myself.
"Good," I said, easing back. "You just saved your life. Now, get out of here before I change my mind.”
I didn't want to be the one to be the one to end his filthy life so I let him go.
He bolted, leaving his belongings behind. I took a deep breath, my mind racing with the new information. Uncle Damien was within reach, and soon, I’d have the answers I’d been searching for. Now, I had to return to Evelyn and complete our mission.
As I left the room, I couldn't help but feel a surge of hope. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was getting closer to the truth, and nothing would stand in my way. I would finally get my mother the justice she deserves.
