Chapter 407: The Secrets of the Blue Moon Part 1

As soon as Ian left, Thalia put her hand to her face and wiped away the tears that had broken out and pursed her lips, her gaze alive.

“Goodbye, my love. The way I found to avenge our son's death was to die, even though I'm still alive.” She said before returning to her vacant stare.

...

Ian stood, looking lost and pensive at the same spot where his father had been taken by the Firecolds. He wasn't surprised to see the head of the leader of the Firecolds appear and observe everything around him, before deciding to enter, crossing the wall and stopping in front of Ian.

“Tayme?”

“I'm not going to talk about her.”

“What about Ryan? He already knows you two are...”

“Are you going to delay me here to ask questions you already know the answer to?”

“Let me see my sister. See if she's okay, alive, happy. I don't have any reason to smile.”

“Won't that be worse? If she's not well, won't you feel bad about her luck? You'd better think she's dead, because every time I look to the future, I don't see you two getting back together...” He stopped talking abruptly when Ian stepped forward and grabbed his arm. It only took a few seconds, but it was enough for Ian to extract three years of Tayme's life from the Firecolds' leader's mind.

He let go and looked calmly at Ian.

“You weren't supposed to see that, little Alpha.”

“Just tell me you're going to do the same as you did for Tayme, with Thalia.”

“You want me to marry Thalia?”

“I want you to protect her.”

“Did you see me protecting Tayme?”

“No, but I know she's safe and I felt it mattered to you. I just don't understand how she can be happy living among Firecolds.”

“Happiness is a fleeting moment in our lives, Ian. The problems of everyday life don't allow that feeling to linger. What you've seen are my memories of moments when Tayme was enchanting. Her smile and her humor light up and enchant everyone around her.”

“I didn't know the Firecolds had hearts and feelings. I didn't even know you got married.”

“You know who I am, little Alpha. Are you still going to insist on associating me with the Firecolds? They really don't have good feelings. They are creatures devoid of compassion. They don't feel pain, pity, love, hate... Only hunger. Your mistake, all this time, has been to think that they are unintelligent creatures, just like vampires and I can assure you that their reasoning amazes me and it has been a constant battle to convince them that they need to obey me. I've seen plans devised by them so that they never lack food, which if shared by humans would eradicate hunger and the need for wars against their own kind. My only asset today is that I am, in part, their creator.”

“How could you have created creatures that destroyed humanity?”

“I didn't want to go it alone, Ian.”

“You could have conquered Tayme with normal resources and formed a family with her...”

“No, Ian. She would never look at me, as she does today, if she knew what I was.”

“Does she know the truth?”

Firecold glanced sideways at Ian and David, Donald and Maxwell arrived in the compound, as he walked over to the wall.

“I have to go.”

“I've come to ask you to take Thalia. I commit her fate into your hands.”

Baron looked at Ian in surprise and, changing his route, slowly walked closer to Ian.

“Are you sure what you're asking of me?”

Ian remained silent. The creature made it sound like he wanted to get rid of Thalia.

“Very well. But I can't do that without something in return.” Baron said decisively.

“The Firecolds asked Thalia for Max. I'm not negotiating anything else here. Thalia is the prize.”

“We are negotiating, Ian. She can be taken by the Firecolds, but if you want me to be the one to take her, I'll demand a price, because I know that even ignoring all your instincts that warn you to kill me, you trust me.”

“It's not you I trust.” Ian said between breaths.

“We're not different, little Alpha. We're the same person.”

Ian didn't want to discuss it with him.

“What's your price?”

“I want you to agree to see what happens to Thalia.”

“You won't let anything bad...”

“Oh, it won't be bad for her. But you need to know this pain, Ian, Thalia has never rejected you and has always been loyal. And that's always been a balm for her ego. I'm going to break it.” Baron said and looked away when he heard other footsteps approaching.
