Chapter 39 Chaos Unleashed
The grove exploded into chaos.
Elias moved first. His warriors charging forward with deadly precision. Nightfang met them head-on. Steel clashed against steel. Claws tore through flesh. The sacred ground that had witnessed Derek's curse now witnessed war.
Derek shifted immediately. Not fully. The curse still clung to him like chains. But his wolf pushed through. Partial. Painful. Enough.
Silver fur rippled across his arms. His eyes burned gold. Fangs extended.
Elias laughed. "The broken Alpha. This will be easier than I thought."
He shifted fully. A massive black wolf. Scars crossing his muzzle from countless battles. He lunged.
Derek met him mid-air. Their bodies collided with bone-jarring force. They rolled across the ground. Snapping. Clawing. Fighting for dominance.
But Derek felt it. The weakness. His incomplete shift left gaps. Vulnerabilities. Places where Elias's fully-transformed strength overpowered him.
Elias's jaws closed around Derek's shoulder. Fangs digging deep.
Derek roared and kicked out, sending Elias crashing into the dirt.
But the wound bled—too much, too fast. His healing wasn’t keeping up. The curse still clung to him, twisting every pulse of pain into weakness.
A burst of golden light flared beside him.
Amanda.
She dropped to her knees, hands already pressed to the torn flesh. Warm light poured from her palms, searing against his skin as it fought to close the wound. Not completely. But enough.
“I’ve got you,” she breathed, voice trembling with focus.
“Stay back,” he rasped. “It’s too dangerous.”
"Not a chance."
Warriors surrounded them. Protecting their Alpha and Luna. Owen led the defense. His sword flashing. Riley stood beside him. Horn abandoned. A blade in each hand.
"Hold the line!" Owen roared. "Don't let them through!"
But Elias's warriors were well-trained. Disciplined. They pushed forward relentlessly.
“Before anyone could breathe, dark magic exploded through the clearing.”
Silas. He dragged himself up from where Derek had left him. Blood covering his face. But his hands blazing with power.
"You think you've won?" He laughed. Manic. "You think any of this matters?"
Dark energy lashed out. Catching three Nightfang warriors. They screamed. Fell.
Amanda raised her shield. The golden barrier absorbing most of the blast. But some slipped through. Scorching her arms.
She gritted her teeth. Held firm.
"Amanda!" Lena's voice cut through the chaos. "Still pretending to be strong? Still thinking you matter?"
Lena moved through the battle like a dancer. Graceful. Deadly. A blade in each hand. She wasn't trained like a warrior. But she fought with cunning. Striking from shadows. Using others as shields.
She appeared beside Silas. Her smile sharp. "Together?"
"Always."
They combined their attacks. Lena's blades flashing toward wounded warriors. Silas's dark magic following. Creating devastating combinations.
Amanda moved to counter. Her gift flaring. Creating barriers. Healing those she could reach.
But she couldn't be everywhere. Couldn't protect everyone.
Derek fought Elias with everything he had. But the black wolf was relentless. Experienced. He'd fought for decades. Won countless battles.
Derek was strong. But not strong enough. Not like this. Not incomplete.
Elias's claws raked across Derek's ribs. Deep furrows that burned.
Derek stumbled. Fell to one knee.
"Pathetic." Elias shifted partially back. Enough to speak. "Your father must be ashamed. The golden heir. Reduced to this."
"My father..." Derek's voice was a growl. "Is worth a thousand of you."
"Then let's test that."
Elias charged again. But this time, not at Derek.
At Victor.
The Alpha stood at the edge of the battle. Organizing defense. Directing warriors. His back turned.
"Father!" Derek's scream tore through the grove.
He moved. Faster than he thought possible. But not fast enough.
Elias's blade flashed. Silver. Deadly.
Victor spun. Saw the attack. Made a choice.
He stepped in front of his son.
The blade meant for Derek's heart plunged into Victor's chest instead.
Time stopped.
Victor's eyes widened. Blood bloomed across his shirt. The silver burning through him like fire.
"No!" Derek caught him as he fell. "No, no, no. Father!"
Victor gasped. His hand gripping Derek's shirt. His breathing shallow. Ragged. "Derek..."
"Don't speak. Save your strength." Derek's voice broke. "Amanda! Help him!"
Amanda was there instantly. Her hands pressing to the wound. Golden light pouring out.
But the blade had been silver. The poison already spreading. Deep. Fast. Fighting against her healing with every pulse of Victor's weakening heart.
"I'm trying." Her voice was strained. Desperate. "The silver, it's resisting. I need more time."
“Then take it!” Derek’s roar tore from him, half-human, half-beast, desperate, raw.
Amanda poured everything into Victor. Every ounce of power. Every bit of will. Her birthmark blazed like the sun. Sweat beaded on her forehead as she fought the poison inch by inch.
Victor's breathing hitched. His hand trembled as it reached for Derek's cheek. "You were always... meant to rise."
"Not like this." Derek's voice broke.
"The pack... needs you." A faint smile ghosted over Victor's lips. "And you already have... what you need. Her."
He looked at Amanda. Her golden light flickering wildly now. Her body trembling from the strain. "Protect him. Love him. Be the Luna... he needs."
Amanda shook her head. Her voice rising in defiance. "You're going to be here to see it. I won't let you go. I won't."
Around them, the battle had paused. Warriors from both sides watching. Witnessing an Alpha fighting for his life while his son and Luna fought even harder to save him.
Lucian stood at the edge. His expression unreadable. "Unfortunate. But the outcome remains inevitable."
Derek's head lifted. His eyes met Lucian's. And something in them made the older Alpha step back.
"You did this." Derek's voice was soft. Deadly. "All of this. For power. For territory. For pride."
"For my pack's survival."
"For your ambition." Derek stood slowly. His hand never leaving his father's shoulder. "You cursed me. You used Amanda. You corrupted Silas. You allied with Elias. And now you've nearly killed my father."
"Nearly." Lucian's eyes flickered to Victor. "But not quite. How long can your Luna keep that up, I wonder? How long before the silver wins?"
"As long as it takes." Amanda gritted it out. Her whole body trembling with effort. But her light never dimmed. Never wavered.
"Admirable." Elias wiped blood from his muzzle. "But futile. The silver is already in his heart. You're only delaying the inevitable."
"Then I'll delay it forever if I have to." Amanda's voice was steel wrapped in desperation.
Derek felt it then. The bond between them flaring. Her determination flowing into him. His strength flowing into her. Their connection deepening as they fought together for his father's life.
And the curse pulsed. Fighting. But Derek's wolf was stronger now. Fueled not just by rage, but by purpose. By love. By the need to protect what mattered most.
His body began to shake. Not from grief. From transformation. Bones cracking. Reforming. Fur rippling across his skin.
The curse was breaking.
And this time, the wolf would not stop until every enemy lay broken at his feet.
