Chapter 84
Alexander was clearly her husband.
Even if they had no feelings for each other, he was still her husband in name!
Lila felt suffocated inside.
Elara: [Alright, stop moping around. Instead of wasting time being upset, you should think about how to seduce Mr. Sinclair, make him obsessed with your body, make him fall in love with you so he can't leave you. Then whatever Celeste or any other woman won't matter at all!]
Looking at her best friend's message, she just felt it was a terrible idea.
Alexander and John's drinking session with Charles wasn't over even at ten o'clock. Lila leaned on the sofa, going from sulking at first to being bored to death later, and then nearly dozing off with her eyes half-closed.
At twenty past ten, John lifted his chin toward Alexander. "Your wife's fallen asleep. I really don't know why you brought her here. Might as well let her go home and rest properly. Don't tell me you brought her just to torture her by not letting her sleep?"
"I told you, she's here to drive you guys home."
"Come on, someone's already coming to pick me up."
Charles asked with a smile on his thin lips: "A woman?"
"Who cares if it's a man or woman, as long as they can drive. What about Charles? How are you getting back?"
"My driver's on the way."
John asked them both, "Let's just call it a night then. The little bunny's already asleep, poor thing."
Charles nodded, "Alright."
Alexander agreed too, "Let's go."
With that, he grabbed his suit jacket from the sofa and tossed it right onto Lila.
Lila jumped, sitting up abruptly.
After a couple seconds to react and adjust to her surroundings, she figured out she was still in the Velvet Lounge private room.
"Planning to sleep here tonight?" That familiar cold voice came from above her head. Lila looked up at Alexander, then at John and Charles who had already stood up, finally realizing they were done and leaving.
She picked up Alexander's jacket and stood up from the sofa, pressing her lips together without a word.
Alexander didn't take the jacket from her hand and walked straight toward the door.
John kindly gave Lila a look, and only then did she belatedly follow.
She thought she'd still have to drive Alexander's two friends home, but after leaving the Velvet Lounge, she discovered someone had already come to pick them up.
Lila felt somewhat relieved.
After Alexander saw both friends into their cars and watched them leave, he turned around and looked at the tiny Lila, "What are you standing there for?"
She said nothing and turned toward the car.
But just as she stood by the driver's door about to pull it open, an anxious woman's voice came over, "Mr. Sinclair!"
Lila turned around and immediately saw Julie running toward Alexander.
Her expression changed slightly.
Although Lila still had some resentment toward Alexander, watching Julie run toward him, she instinctively walked to his side and grabbed his hand hanging at his side without hesitation.
Alexander turned his head, frowning at her, his gaze full of confusion.
Lila looked up to meet his eyes, a sweet, innocent smile appearing at the corners of her mouth: "It's dark out, the temperature's dropped and the air is cold. My hands are freezing. You've been drinking, so your hands are warm. Warm mine up for me."
The night breeze was slightly cool. The streetlights and moonlight fell on Lila's face, making her already pretty face look even more charming and lovely, strikingly beautiful.
Whether it was the alcohol or something else, Alexander stared at her with a moment of distraction.
The small hand in his palm was so soft it seemed boneless. Taking advantage of his slight drunkenness, his calloused fingertips rubbed back and forth on the back of her hand, as if seriously savoring the wonderful sensation of holding hands at this moment.
