Chapter 82
While Lila was still puzzling over this, Alexander spoke up, "What are you doing here?"
His voice carried a hint of displeasure.
"I'm working here," the girl said.
Alexander frowned slightly. "You can't find any other job? Why work here?"
The girl smiled bitterly. "Something happened at home. I need money. But I'm just here as a waitress. I don't provide any other services."
Alexander took the juice the girl was holding from her tray and placed it in front of Lila.
At the same time, he asked, "How much do you need?"
The girl paused before answering, "A hundred thousand."
After answering, she smiled and added, "If I work here, I can earn that in about six months."
John, who had been watching from the sidelines, spoke up, "A hundred thousand isn't that much, Alex. Why don't you just give it to Julie Baker? Save her from working in a place like this. She's a young girl, and she's not bad-looking either. It doesn't seem very safe for her to be here."
So this girl's name was Julie.
Lila was even more curious about her relationship with Alexander.
She was even more curious whether he would casually agree to give Julie a hundred thousand dollars.
Less than three seconds after this curiosity popped into her mind, Lila heard Alexander say, "I'll have Charlie transfer it to you tomorrow. Quit this job and find a proper place to work."
"Mr. Sinclair, I can't take your money."
"Consider it a loan. No rush to pay it back."
Julie was still hesitating. "But..."
John cut her off. "Come on, this money is nothing to Alex. If he's giving it to you, just take it. Besides, this place isn't exactly a palace. You can't possibly want to stay here, can you?"
Julie pressed her lips together slightly, stole a glance at Alexander, and then said, "Thank you, Mr. Sinclair."
From the way Julie looked at Alexander, Lila detected an emotion called "affection." Combined with how the usually cold Alexander was taking such care of Julie, she couldn't help but imagine more.
An ex-girlfriend?
Oh wait, the ex-girlfriend was Celeste.
So she must be an ex-ex-girlfriend then?
Lila felt weird about this.
Even though she didn't like Alexander, having him casually offer to give a hundred thousand dollars to an ex-ex-girlfriend right in front of her. What was that supposed to mean?
She knew Alexander had never taken her seriously, but he couldn't humiliate her like this in front of outsiders, could he?
She was Mrs. Sinclair in name, after all!
Just as she was feeling annoyed, Lila heard Julie ask Alexander, "Mr. Sinclair, who is this lady beside you?"
"Naturally, that's Mrs. Sinclair." It was John who said this.
Julie was shocked. "Mr. Sinclair, you're married?"
John chuckled. "Is it really that surprising? No one said he couldn't get married, did they?"
"But what about Celeste?"
"Who told you to ask that? Celeste? Why don't you call her over and let her ask Alex herself? Maybe if she asks him directly, Alex will give her the answer she wants most."
Alexander glanced at John. "That's enough."
John snorted and picked up his glass to drink.
Julie looked at Lila, nodded, then turned back to Alexander. "Mr. Sinclair, your wife is very young and beautiful, but if Celeste finds out you're married, she'll be heartbroken."
Lila's lips twitched.
Why did those words sound so unpleasant?
What was she trying to say?
Lila rolled her eyes and looked down at her phone.
Beside her, Alexander didn't respond to Julie's comment. He simply said, "You're done here. You can go now."
