Chapter 29
Alexander redirected his frustration at being controlled by Gaia onto Lila, glaring at her fiercely. "What you think is good doesn't necessarily work for me."
Lila felt uneasy under his fierce gaze and quickly looked away.
She knew Alexander didn't like her.
So even though she had tried to stop Gaia from making Alexander prepare the driver's lounge on her own, he still vented his anger and displeasure on her.
To be honest, Lila felt a bit hurt.
Even though she and Alexander didn't have the feelings that normal married couples should have, being targeted and disliked was inherently upsetting. What's more, they were legally married and bound together for the time being.
Gaia was also angered by Alexander's words and couldn't help scolding him, "How can you talk like that? What's wrong with Lila? In terms of looks and character, few people can match her!"
"That's enough."
Alexander suppressed his displeasure and looked at Gaia. "I need to arrange for someone to handle the driver's lounge now. Are you going to stay here and watch?"
Gaia let out a breath, "I'm tired. I'm going home to rest."
With that, she glanced at Lila with concern and warned Alexander before leaving. "I'm warning you, if you dare bully Lila while I'm gone, your grandfather will come find you in your dreams tonight and scare you so much you won't be able to sleep!"
Alexander felt somewhat helpless.
He pressed his temples, called the intercom, and had Charlie come in to escort Gaia downstairs.
Once Gaia left, Lila felt rather uncomfortable.
Without her backer, she felt like she was sitting on pins and needles in Alexander's office.
After a few seconds, Lila looked at Alexander carefully. "Boss, you go ahead with your work. I'll leave now?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she quickly turned around, her footsteps extremely light, as if walking on thin ice.
But even so, a sharp voice from behind still reached her ears. "Stop!"
Hearing that tone, Lila knew she was done for.
He was going to settle the score with her!
At the same time, her legs really did feel like they were filled with lead, too heavy to take another step.
Lila stopped but didn't turn around.
She heard Alexander get up from his office chair behind her, and heard the sound of his expensive leather shoes taking steady steps toward her. Her heartbeat inexplicably quickened.
Not from excitement or nervousness, but from fear and timidity.
Without Gaia present, she had no chance against Alexander!
"Turn around." Alexander had already walked up behind her, just two steps away from standing in front of her, yet he ordered her to turn around.
Lila thought this was probably his obsession and fascination with control as someone in a position of power.
She slowly turned around, head down, avoiding his eyes that she knew without looking would be deep and cold. She asked him in the most gentle and obedient voice possible, "Boss, is there something else you need?"
"Lift your head." Alexander said again.
Lila pressed her lips together and slowly raised her face. The moment her gaze touched Alexander's cold eyes, her chin was suddenly grabbed.
Before she could even cry out in pain from the shock, Alexander's voice, cold as ice in the dark night, reached her ears with a questioning tone, "You're quite pleased with yourself, aren't you?"
"No, I'm not."
"No?" Alexander's slightly raised tone carried a hint of danger, his eyes narrowing. "Tell me, are you saying one thing and meaning another? Or are you just too ambitious?"
