Chapter 211
Really?
Lila didn't see it that way.
When they first got their marriage certificate, Alexander said all those things about their marriage agreement, but he clearly hadn't kept a single promise. He was always finding excuses to let himself off the hook.
Back then he said he had zero interest in her.
How long had it been? And now the interest showed up, didn't it?
He was controlling her more than anything.
Lila was internally scoffing at Alexander's behavior when she heard his questioning voice: "What are you thinking about?"
She instantly snapped back to reality and instinctively shook her head: "Nothing."
He snorted coldly, clearly not believing her.
Just then, Lila's phone rang.
She glanced at the screen and saw it was a voice call from Ethan's mom. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes.
Alexander saw it too and said coolly: "Aren't you going to answer?"
"I'll answer it now."
With that, she picked up and politely said: "Hello."
On the other end, Ethan's mother's gentle voice came through: "Lila, Ethan explained everything to me. We pushed him too hard, so he asked you to pretend to be his girlfriend. I'm sorry for the trouble we caused you."
"No, no, it's fine as long as we cleared things up. Ethan just didn't want you to worry."
"Ethan told me you married Mr. Sinclair?"
Lila glanced at Alexander and replied: "Yes."
On the other end, Ethan's mother said with a smile: "Mr. Sinclair is a well-known young talent in Oceancrest City. Lila, you're a good girl, and you deserve someone as excellent as Mr. Sinclair. I wish you both a happy marriage."
Lila felt somewhat at a loss for words.
Her blessing didn't really fit her and Alexander's marriage.
But she still responded politely: "Thank you."
"You're welcome. I'll take you shopping when I'm free. I won't bother you this weekend. That's all then, bye."
"Goodbye."
After hanging up, Lila stared at Alexander, her eyes filled with mixed emotions she couldn't quite describe.
She never expected things would be resolved just like that.
She glanced at the time on her phone. From when they hung up on Ethan's video call until now, it had been exactly four minutes.
She had to admit—the boss was really impressive!
As she was marveling to herself, Alexander said flatly: "Ethan's mother has pretty good emotional intelligence."
Lila came back to her senses.
Lila knew Alexander made that comment because he heard her praise him and say those blessings.
Still, she also felt that Ethan's mother handled things in a very mature way.
Lila emerged from her thoughts and looked at him: "By the way, boss, Ms. Hill saw us standing pretty close earlier. Did she say anything?"
Alexander met her gaze, his deep eyes showing a hint of confusion: "What could she say?"
"Did she ask you what's going on between us?"
"Lila, is there something wrong with your brain?"
She frowned, dissatisfied with his accusation: "Can you stop attacking people personally when you talk?"
He snorted coldly, looking down at her from his height, and said coolly: "I'll only say this once. Listen carefully."
"I'm listening."
"Ms. Hill is just the CFO of the Sinclair Group. She has no right to interfere with my private life. Even if you were my kept mistress, she wouldn't have the standing to ask about it, understand?"
Lila immediately widened her eyes and shot back: "Who's your kept mistress? Why do you talk so rudely?"
Alexander looked at her round, wide eyes and unexpectedly found them quite cute.
He curved his lips slightly: "Just giving you an example to help your not-so-smart brain understand."
Lila looked at his smirk, thinking Alexander didn't know what he was so pleased about, and asked with some dissatisfaction: "Using such an awful example—do you actually have thoughts about keeping a mistress?"
Alexander looked down at her: "So what if I do?"
