Chapter 209
And she, Lila, was that mistress.
She quickly scrambled off Alexander's lap and stood aside in a panic. Looking at Ms. Hill, who was already standing by the desk, she hurried to explain, "Ms. Hill, I almost fell just now. Your Mr. Sinclair was just helping me up. Please don't get the wrong idea."
Ms. Hill said nothing, just shifted her gaze from Lila to Alexander.
Lila didn't care what she was thinking anymore.
She grabbed her phone from Alexander's hand and rushed toward her driver's lounge.
Behind her, Alexander's indifferent voice sounded, "What is it?"
"This is the tax and financial analysis for the collaboration with Mr. Smith that you asked me to prepare last time."
"Let me see."
Listening to their conversation, Lila retreated into her lounge. Only after sitting down in the chair did she feel somewhat settled.
But she couldn't help wondering what Ms. Hill must be thinking.
Wouldn't she think Lila was trying to seduce Alexander?
Lila didn't dare look outside directly, but unconsciously observed from the corner of her eye.
She saw Alexander flip through a few pages of that "tax and financial analysis," then look up at Ms. Hill, say something, and then Ms. Hill nodded and turned to leave.
Lila noticed there was no expression on Ms. Hill's face at all, as if she had no reaction whatsoever to the intimate position she'd just witnessed between her and Alexander. But that didn't make sense, did it?
If she liked Alexander, seeing him with another woman like that would surely make her sad, right?
Before Lila could think more about it, her phone rang again.
A message from Ethan's mother, [Lila, why did you hang up just now?]
Lila couldn't reply to that, so she simply opened her chat with Ethan and sent him the photo she'd just taken with Alexander, along with a message.
[I'll be honest with you—I'm married, and my boss is my husband.]
[So last time when I ran into my boss, who's also my husband, outside the private room at the restaurant, he knew I was pretending to be your girlfriend and got really angry. We even had a fight. He also accidentally saw your mom's invitation to go shopping with me. I'm in a difficult position now. Your mom just messaged me. If you're available, could you call her and explain?]
After sending the long message, Lila breathed a sigh of relief.
Staring at the screen, she unconsciously opened the photo she'd taken with Alexander.
In the photo, Alexander was kissing her cheek with his head lowered, showing only his profile. Lila spread two fingers outward to zoom in on the photo.
Then, from the photo, she saw the faint smile in Alexander's eyes as he kissed her, and the subtle curve at the corner of his mouth.
For a moment, Lila felt that Alexander might not dislike her as much as he did at first.
After all, looking at her now, there was a smile in his eyes and at the corners of his mouth.
The door to the lounge suddenly sounded.
Lila instinctively turned her head at the sound and saw Alexander walking in. She asked him, "Boss, did you need something?"
He didn't answer, but walked closer to her. His gaze was drawn to the lit phone screen, and he glanced at it, only to see the photo of the two of them displayed on it.
And his face was zoomed in.
When Lila realized what Alexander was looking at, she immediately turned off the phone screen.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
Alexander met her guilty eyes and curved his lips slightly, "Is my face really that good-looking? So good-looking that it's worth zooming in on the photo to secretly admire?"
