Chapter 180
Alexander looked at her nervous appearance and frowned slightly. "Cut the crap. Just answer whatever I ask you. No need for extra words, and I don't want to hear them either."
Lila hesitated, so confused she didn't even dare to look him in the eye.
What on earth was Alexander thinking?
She stole a glance at him and asked cautiously, "But don't you hate me? Why do you suddenly want to become the man I like?"
"That little girl at the mall today was quite pretty, very cute. I want one too. According to your logic and theory, if I become the man you like, you'll be willing to have a child for me."
"Even if I did, it might not be a girl."
He glanced down at her from his superior position. "That's not for you to worry about."
"Really?" It sounded like he could somehow control the baby's gender?
Was he that mysterious?
Lila couldn't figure Alexander out.
But clearly, he didn't need her to.
Alexander quickly issued another order, "Answer my original question."
She pressed her lips together and described honestly, "I like guys with stable personalities who treat me well, who put me first when thinking about things, who know how to consider my feelings, guys with good character and a sense of responsibility."
Alexander snorted coldly and mocked, "Average looks, high standards."
Lila reminded him quietly, "You already admitted I'm pretty. Saying I have average looks now would be slapping yourself in the face, wouldn't it?"
"Are you planning to bring up the fact that I admitted you're pretty for the rest of your life?"
"No, not really."
After a pause, she said slowly, "Maybe all these conditions I mentioned are just meant to restrict myself. If I actually developed feelings for someone, if I really fell for them, whatever they're like is what I'd like in a man."
Alexander caught something important in her words. His expression shifted slightly as he pressed with a raised tone, "So, you don't have anyone you like right now?"
Lila said casually, "No, when did I ever say I did?"
This answer pleased Alexander deeply, so much so that the corners of his mouth unconsciously curved upward. "I thought you liked Chris."
At the mention of Chris, the light in Lila's eyes dimmed considerably.
She couldn't help but think of things from her youth, and her voice inevitably became a bit downcast. "Back in school, I really did like him, liked him so much that..."
Alexander watched her wear that regretful and nostalgic expression when mentioning Chris, and immediately lost all interest.
He even interrupted her mercilessly, "Shut up. I'm not interested in hearing stories about you and other men."
Lila's melancholy mood and memories were abruptly cut off by Alexander's interruption.
Well, okay then.
She looked at him obediently. "So are we done talking? Do you have anything else, honey?"
"No."
"Then I'm going upstairs?"
He withdrew his gaze from her face and took out another cigarette, tossing out a casual remark. "Whatever."
Lila responded with a faint acknowledgment and turned to go upstairs.
As she stepped on the first stair, she shook her head to herself.
Geez, she really had no idea what Alexander was thinking today.
Who was Alexander?
So proud, so arrogant, so full of himself.
Yet today, just because he saw a pretty little girl at the mall and wanted one of his own, he was willing to lower himself to become the kind of man that a woman he'd always put down and mocked would like?
That didn't make sense, did it?
