Chapter 74
Alexander met her questioning gaze, then looked away and said flatly, "Sort of."
Hearing this answer, Lila found it quite surprising.
In her eyes, Alexander was cold and aloof, not at all the type of caring person who would like children.
But thinking about it carefully, since they got their marriage certificate, he had brought up the topic of "children" with her more than once.
It seemed she still didn't really understand Alexander.
Maybe deep down he actually really liked kids?
But even if he did, she shouldn't be the one having them.
Snapping back to reality, Lila looked at Alexander, "If you want kids, shouldn't you have them with someone you actually like?"
"In this world, legitimate children can only be born with a legal wife."
"Then after we divorce in a year, you can marry the woman you like and have kids with her."
Hearing her say this, Alexander's expression darkened again.
Lila had no idea what she'd done to upset him this time.
She looked away, pushed open the driver's side door, got out of the car, then walked around to the passenger side and pulled open Alexander's door, "Boss, why don't you back the car into the parking spot? It's getting late, you should get to work."
Alexander was unhappy that the topic about "children" had ended so abruptly, and his tone was sharp, "Whether I go to work or not is none of your business!"
Lila couldn't understand why this man's mood swings were so extreme.
Fortunately, he still swung his long, elegant legs out and got out of the car.
After standing up, she felt his gaze still on her. She cautiously lifted her eyes to meet his, "Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
"The woman I like—Grandma doesn't like her. She won't let me marry her, so you'll have the child."
"But you said you wouldn't sleep with me, so how would we have a child? Are you planning to drag me to do IVF?"
Alexander's expression turned terrifyingly dark.
He never imagined that every single thing he said to her would become an excuse and reason for her to argue back.
Seeing Alexander stay silent, Lila assumed he was agreeing by default. She immediately looked alarmed and declared, "I'm not doing IVF, and I'm not having a child for you. And let's be real—you don't even like me. Even if I did have a child, you wouldn't like it either."
Alexander didn't correct her, just said directly, "As long as you give birth to my child, I'll like it."
Lila fell silent.
Would she dare have someone else's child?
Forget it, she wouldn't have anyone's child. She couldn't even live a decent life right now—what was there to talk about having children?
Better to be practical. If she had time, she should read more books for the teacher certification exam. Maybe when she took the test, she could pass on the first try.
Coming back to her senses, Lila urged him again, "Boss, why don't you back the car into the parking spot first?"
Alexander angrily slammed the passenger door shut, walked around the front of the car, got in the driver's seat, and went to park.
Lila stepped back to clear the way, and also breathed a sigh of relief.
In Alexander's eyes, she was just a driver with no status whatsoever, at most adding the role of a housekeeper who cooked for him. There was no emotional connection between them at all. At this level, wasn't it ridiculous to be talking about having children?
Alexander seemed like such a smart person—how could he not understand even this basic point?
She couldn't help but reasonably suspect—
Was he so eager to have a child because there was some secret no one knew about?
