Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Hearing these descriptions, Chris couldn't help but smile, "Really? Why do I feel like I have all these qualities you mentioned?"

Lila's face froze.

She said all that just to indirectly tell Alexander that she disliked him!

Disliked his targeting, his sarcasm, his disrespect—disliked everything about him!

That was her only purpose in answering Chris's question, but now Chris suddenly came out with this, and her heart felt like someone had plucked at it. She laughed awkwardly, "Stop joking around."

"I'm serious." Chris's eyes were sincere.

Alexander, sitting beside them, had already turned pale with anger.

He leaned back in his chair, tilting his head slightly, and glanced at Lila with a commanding presence, "Miss Grace, do I need to remind you what your purpose was in asking Mr. Cavill out today?"

When Alexander said "Miss Grace," he emphasized each word heavily, as if trying to remind Lila of her identity.

Her face remained cold. She didn't look at Alexander, but instead lifted her face to meet Chris's gaze.

Lila smiled at him slightly and spoke sincerely, "Chris, it's been four years, and you're still as good-looking as you were in high school. Your fashion sense is great, you still have that youthful energy from back then, your hairstyle looks good, and your skin is even better maintained than in high school. Everything about you is really, really good."

Receiving so many compliments all at once, Chris straightened up in his seat and called her name bashfully, "Lila..."

Alexander's hand kept tightening around his wine glass.

After she finished speaking, Alexander downed the remaining half glass of wine and then loudly set the glass down on the table.

Lila glanced at the glass that bore his suppressed anger, but said nothing.

Her smile changed as she looked at Chris, "You asked me earlier if I have a boyfriend. I don't."

Seeing her bring up this topic again separately, Chris was convinced she was hinting at something. He got a bit excited and quickly responded with a smile, "I know, I heard you just now. You don't need to say it again."

She looked at him, feeling a pang of reluctance in her heart.

Although she didn't know why Chris had suddenly sought her out after four years and asked to meet, or what this important matter he kept mentioning was, seeing his anxious expression now, Lila sensed that he might have feelings for her.

What she couldn't confirm when she was young seemed very clear now.

Unfortunately, it was too late.

Lila didn't let her thoughts wander further.

She looked at Chris with gentle eyes and smiled self-mockingly, "Although I don't have a boyfriend, I'm married. I have a husband."

As soon as she finished speaking, the smile on Chris's face visibly faded.

He looked at her uncertainly, "You're married?"

Before Lila could answer, Chris spoke again with a laugh, "Lila, you're not joking, are you?"

She shook her head, "I'm not joking. Because I got married without having a wedding ceremony—just filed the paperwork—not many people know about it. But Elara knows. If you don't believe me, you can ask her."

Chris spoke with some disappointment, "I believe you. In my memory, you were never someone who would lie."

After saying this, he sighed.

After some hesitation, Chris couldn't help but ask, "Lila, why did you get married so soon after graduating from college?"

"The reasons are complicated. I'd rather not go into it."

"Fine."

After that single word, Chris took a sip of water. Once he'd calmed down a bit, he showed a bitter smile, "No wonder there was a man answering your phone so late last night."
