Chapter 54
Alexander's temples throbbed with anger.
How dare Lila talk to him like that?
Just because of a bracelet?
Rage surged wildly through Alexander's chest. His blue eyes glared at her viciously, and he almost reached out to strangle her the next second.
But Lila didn't notice at all.
Her mind was a mess, and she felt irritated. After pulling her wrist free, she leaned over her desk, ready to read.
However, the moment her hand touched the corner of a page, her entire chair spun around.
Right after that, she was yanked up by her arm.
Before she could react, she was already pressed against the glass wall of the lounge.
Alexander leaned in close, released the hand gripping her arm, grabbed her chin instead, and kissed her hard.
Lila's eyes went wide.
Her mind exploded as she tried to push away Alexander, who was leaning over her.
But the more she resisted, the harder the crushing force of the kiss seemed to become. Wave after wave of punishment and discipline came at her relentlessly. She couldn't fight back. All her pushing and rejection crumbled before Alexander's absolute physical advantage.
She gradually became docile, her hands dropping to her sides, looking completely defenseless.
Without her resistance, Alexander's rationality returned somewhat.
He stopped and looked down at her. When his unfathomably deep blue eyes met the girl's aggrieved, reddened eyes, his heartbeat seemed to skip a beat.
Alexander released his grip on her chin.
Lila bit her lip hard, avoiding his gaze, but a tear rolling down from the corner of her eye betrayed her.
Alexander watched, feeling an inexplicable tightness in his chest. He frowned and asked, "Why are you crying?"
Why was she crying?
For being married to a moody man?
For being mocked and humiliated by him in the elevator and restaurant until she had nowhere to hide?
For him trampling on her dignity with a kiss?
Or because when Chris came looking for her again, she was no longer free?
Lila couldn't say, and she wouldn't tell Alexander either.
She raised her hand to wipe away the tear. "I'm not crying."
Alexander stared at her forced show of strength, his chest feeling like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, making it hard to breathe.
He didn't understand why he was having such a strange reaction to this woman who was only bound to him by a contract agreement.
Was it because she had a pretty face and he was attracted to her?
He quickly dismissed this thought, because he had seen plenty of beautiful women before, yet he had never lost control like today.
An inexplicable irritation crawled out from somewhere.
Alexander took a step back, his eyes cold as ice falling on her face. "The marriage agreement says we don't interfere with each other, which means you can't interfere with me. The marriage agreement only applies to you. As the weaker party in this marriage, you have no say whatsoever. I suggest you get it straight and stop throwing tantrums at me. I won't put up with it, and I'm not that easy to talk to!"
Lila glared at him unhappily but said nothing.
Alexander stepped forward, his eyes dangerous. "What? Want me to kiss you again?"
"No." Lila answered immediately and looked away.
This rejection darkened his expression.
How many women lined up without getting a single glance from him?
Why was it that with his wife in name only, even a light kiss from him could make her look so wronged?
Alexander couldn't figure it out.
But when his gaze fell on her left wrist, he thought of that bracelet.
Lila's confrontation with him earlier seemed to have started when he looked at her bracelet.
Could she have someone she loved?
