Chapter 51
Even Charlie, seeing Alexander step out of the elevator and walk into the employee cafeteria, choked on the food he was chewing.
After coughing for a bit, he quickly put down his chopsticks and got up to walk toward Alexander. "Mr. Sinclair, what brings you here?"
"Am I not allowed to come?"
"No, it's just that your lunch has already been placed in the dining area of your office by your secretary."
At this point, he lowered his voice a bit. "Your lunch is specially prepared. It's not quite the same as what everyone else is eating."
"Everyone works at the Sinclair Group. We're all Sinclair Group employees. From now on, whatever everyone else eats, I'll eat too." With that, he walked toward the food service window.
Charlie glanced at all the eyes fixed on Mr. Sinclair and cleared his throat lightly. "Everyone, please continue with your meals. Mr. Sinclair is just here to eat too. No need to be nervous."
After he said this, most people looked away.
But they didn't continue eating. Instead, they started whispering to each other in very low voices.
"What's going on today?"
"This is so unusual. This is the first time in my five years at the Sinclair Group that I've seen Mr. Sinclair in the employee cafeteria."
"Who's that young woman next to him?"
"I think she's the new driver."
"A female driver? The HR department hired a woman to drive for the CEO of the Sinclair Group? Are they kidding?"
"What do you know? That driver was arranged to come in. Nobody even knows how she got here."
"Should we ask Charlie later?"
"Even if Charlie knows, he won't tell you."
Lila listened to everyone's discussion and felt somewhat relieved.
Good thing the employees at a high-quality company also had high standards. They didn't categorize her as someone who slept her way to the top just because she was moving around with Alexander.
Lila let out a soft sigh of relief, turned around, and walked in the opposite direction from Alexander. She bought a sandwich and some oatmeal at another window.
She thought she could finally sit down and eat in peace.
But who knew that after Alexander got his food, Charlie carried it for him and asked, "Mr. Sinclair, where would you like to sit?"
"I'll sit with the driver."
"Okay."
So Charlie carried Alexander's food and walked toward Lila.
Her inner thoughts: Holy shit!
Lila kept her head down, taking small bites of her sandwich.
Even though she could see from the corner of her eye that Alexander had sat down across from her, she didn't look at him. She just treated him like he was invisible.
But who was Alexander?
Since childhood, whether at school or in business, no one had ever dared to ignore him.
Whenever he appeared, he was always the center of attention.
Now, a mere driver was pretending not to see him. Alexander instantly felt his authority was being challenged, and his displeasure reached an unbearable level.
He sat up straight on the bench, swept a contemptuous, emperor-like gaze over Lila, and instructed Charlie, who was still standing nearby, "I don't like sharing a table with people. Tell this driver to eat somewhere else."
Charlie felt utterly helpless.
Are you kidding me?
You just said you wanted to sit with the driver!
The key thing is, she was sitting here first. Even if you're the CEO, shouldn't there be a first-come-first-served rule?
More importantly, this driver isn't just any driver—she's the other half on your marriage certificate!
Charlie was on the verge of tears, but compared to offending Mr. Sinclair, at least for now, he'd rather offend Mrs. Sinclair.
However, just as he looked at Lila with an extremely awkward expression and was about to speak, Lila simply picked up her tray and moved to the table behind her.
Alexander's eyes instantly became sharp.
