Chapter 43
"Exactly." Alexander let out a cold laugh.
Lila didn't understand what that cold laugh meant, but he seemed to be done asking questions. To avoid getting randomly attacked again, she turned and headed toward her area.
Alexander stared at her retreating figure, a strange emotion flickering across his face.
Who would've thought—she actually had career ambitions.
Grandma's judgment might not be as bad as he'd imagined.
Lila entered the newly prepared driver's lounge.
To her surprise, the environment inside was really nice. Translucent glass paired with venetian blinds ensured some privacy. Inside, there was an oversized desk and swivel chair—the chair was in a Morandi-style pink and white color scheme, really pretty.
On top of that, the desk prepared for her not only had an elegant silver-white computer but also a beautifully shaped cactus, round and absolutely adorable.
All the other basic facilities were there too—water dispenser, file rack, pen holder, notebooks, everything.
This was the kind of lounge you could only dream of having.
No, this could already be called a top-tier office, the kind only managers would have.
Lila absolutely loved it.
Now she could not only read books here but also use the computer to look up exam prep tips online.
She walked over, placed the books she'd been carrying on the desk, and sat down in the swivel chair. As soon as she looked up, she saw Alexander outside through the half-open blinds.
He was on the phone, holding his cell in his left hand to his ear, his face expressionless as he spoke.
Lila thought that probably came from being in a position of power for so long—by now, even difficult work couldn't affect his emotions.
While on the call, Alexander held a pen in his right hand, signing documents. Every movement carried an elegant air.
The scene was beautiful as a painting, and in Lila's eyes, it was quite pleasing to watch.
This moment reminded her of what Alexander had said earlier about her having dumb luck.
Now she felt he was right—it really was dumb luck. Most people probably wouldn't be this fortunate.
A smile appeared on Lila's face.
Just then, Alexander, having hung up the phone, suddenly looked up. Their eyes unexpectedly met in mid-air—one with a curved smile, the other with a dark expression.
Lila saw his expressionless face start to darken and immediately dropped her smile, lowered her head, and randomly grabbed a nearby book to flip through.
Then Lila heard the sound of the blinds closing.
She glanced with her peripheral vision and discovered that Alexander outside was holding a remote control, operating the blinds of her lounge!
Suddenly, she was a bit speechless.
Before she could stay silent for more than a few seconds, Lila's phone rang.
The incoming call was from a number without a name saved. She swiped to answer, "Hello, who's this?"
"Little Bunny, it's me. I'm downstairs at the Sinclair Group. Come down, I'll take you to practice driving."
"Okay, but Mr. Lucas, please just call me Lila."
John chuckled softly, "A name is just a label, why worry about it?"
"Fine."
"Come down, I'm waiting for you."
Lila agreed, got up, and left the lounge.
Of course, before going downstairs, she checked in with Alexander, "Boss, Mr. Lucas is waiting for me downstairs. I'm going to practice driving?"
Alexander didn't look up, responding coolly with a "Mm," then warned her, "When you're practicing, keep your distance from him."
Lila didn't understand what he meant by keeping distance, "Normally, when practicing driving, doesn't the learner sit in the driver's seat and the instructor sit in the passenger seat? There's no further distance to keep."
