Chapter 41
After Lila finished speaking, Alexander's face had already darkened.
He got up from the sofa and walked toward Lila step by step with his long strides, looking at her with dangerous eyes. "Are you talking about me?"
She looked completely innocent, as if she didn't understand at all, and asked back, "Honey, why would you ask that? Do you really think you always act like everyone owes you money when you're with other people? Is that really how you see yourself?"
"Lila Grace!" Alexander said her name through gritted teeth, his anger about to explode.
Lila explained with apparent fear, "I was just giving an example. Don't overthink it. How would I dare talk about you? After all, when it comes to you, I have no choice but to obey. There's no way I'd mock you!"
When it comes to you, you have no choice but to obey.
These were the words Alexander had said when he told her to beg him during dinner.
Now, Lila threw them right back at him, using his own words against him.
As soon as she finished speaking, Lila pointed toward the bedroom. "Honey, I'm tired. I'm going to bed now. Good night."
With that, she quickly prepared to escape back to her room.
The moment Lila turned around, the corners of her mouth couldn't help but curve up into a smile, showing her teeth.
Who doesn't know how to hint and mock?
At least Alexander knows he always has that expression like everyone owes him money!
Although she didn't dare confront Alexander directly, tonight's little mockery let her vent a bit of her frustration, and it felt great!
Alexander stood downstairs, watching her rush upstairs and run into her room, his handsome face dark.
Good. She actually dared to play the mockery game with him!
The next day, Lila got up early to make breakfast.
She prepared oatmeal and fried some eggs and bacon.
Maybe Alexander had accepted the fact that she couldn't cook dishes that only five-star hotel chefs could make. When he entered the dining room and saw the breakfast on the table, he didn't complain anymore. After sitting down, he calmly picked up his utensils and ate elegantly.
Lila breathed a sigh of relief internally.
She should have gotten through the cooking challenge smoothly, right?
After the meal, Alexander drove her to the company.
The Sinclair Group underground parking garage.
When the CEO's private elevator door opened, Alexander's phone rang. He answered the call while getting on the elevator. As he watched the elevator door close, he didn't even glance at Lila, as if they were complete strangers.
Lila sensibly stood aside, waiting for the public elevator.
She needed to go to the front desk.
She had bought some reference books online for the teacher certification exam, and the package had arrived at the front desk this morning.
For Lila, being a driver wasn't a long-term plan, but right now, there was no way around it. So she planned to use her free time while working as a driver to study and take this year's teacher certification exam.
After passing the teacher certification, she would continue studying related subjects.
When Lila was little, the place where she lived was still very poor and lacked professional teachers. The village children could only go to school thanks to volunteer teacher programs. Back then, her grandmother told her to study hard and become a teacher in the future, to return home and educate others.
Although later on, the small town became prosperous and education improved, and teachers were no longer scarce.
Still, the idea of becoming a teacher had taken root in Lila's heart and became her career dream.
She had originally hoped to study education in college, but she wasn't accepted and missed the opportunity to enroll. That's why she planned to work while preparing for the teacher certification exam after graduation.
Although now, by some twist of fate, she had become Alexander's driver.
But any job with income is still a job, so things were roughly going according to her plan.
