Chapter 264
Chapter 264
Arabella was clearly caught off guard by Lila’s bluntness. For a brief second, her expression stiffened.
She dropped the act and snorted coldly, "I didn't expect a country bumpkin like you to be so scheming. You won't divorce my brother? Do you really think that just because you don’t want a divorce, he won’t? Look at yourself. What do you have that could possibly compare to Celeste? Besides, Celeste saved my brother's life. Do you understand what that means? A life-saving debt must be repaid! What's more, my brother has always liked Celeste. When she comes back, even if you're pregnant with his child, he'll divorce you the moment she says the word!"
Lila was filled with rage at Arabella's words.
She laughed coldly, "That's all just your imagination. You don't know my husband at all. I'm telling you, if he doesn't want to divorce me, even if Celeste begs him in tears, It still won’t happen!"
"You think way too highly of yourself!"
"You think way too highly of Celeste's place in my husband's heart!"
Arabella never expected Lila to be so sharp-tongued and to counter every word without backing down. She stared at her in stunned anger and snapped, "Lila, just because I call you sister-in-law doesn't mean you're actually the young Mrs. of the Sinclair family. Let me tell you, you're just a tool my brother uses to appease Grandma. He doesn't like you at all!"
Those words landed like a heavy blow.
Arabella clearly intended to strike where it hurt most!
Furious, she was about to retort when a commanding voice cut through first, "She IS the legitimate Mrs. Sinclair of the Sinclair family!"
Lila instinctively looked over and saw Isadora in a black jacket with smoky eye makeup.
Isadora walked over and stood beside her, meeting Arabella's gaze. "Arabella, who do you think you are running your mouth like this in front of my sister-in-law?"
"Why are you yelling at me? This woman is so scheming, she..."
"Shut up!"
Isadora cut her off before she could finish, then continued, "I'm warning you—if I find out you're using Celeste to drive a wedge between my brother and sister-in-law again, don't blame me for what happens."
Without waiting for a response, she grabbed Lila’s wrist and pulled her away.
Arabella was livid!
It was one thing for her and Isadora to not get along normally, but Lila was just an outsider to the family—why would Isadora side with her against her own family?
Arabella stomped her foot in anger.
She gritted her teeth, glaring at their retreating figures and swearing to herself: One day, I'll make you kneel before me and beg!
After walking a fair distance, Isadora finally let go of Lila’s wrist.
Lila looked at her with a smile and thanked her sincerely, "Thanks for standing up for me just now. I'm really touched."
"What's there to smile about? When Arabella was saying such nasty things, why didn't you just leave? Why stand there and listen to her lies?"
"I did argue back."
Isadora gave her a sidelong glance. "At least you're not completely stupid."
Lila felt like she'd seen this attitude somewhere before.
She was Isadora's sister-in-law, wasn't she?
So why did this girl talk like she was five years older than her?
She didn’t dislike it. In fact, she found this straightforward personality strangely likable.
Lila looked into her eyes and noticed her eyeshadow was beautifully done and very distinctive. She complimented her, "Isadora, your smoky eye makeup looks really good today. Did you do it yourself?"
Then, almost immediately, a faint light appeared in her eyes.
She seemed surprised and asked uncertainly, "You really think it looks good?"
