Chapter 257

Chapter 257

Alexander's indifferent gaze fell on her face as he countered with a question instead of answering, "What did I say?"

Lila pressed her hand to her forehead and repeated word for word, "You said even if I stripped naked and stood in front of you, you'd only find it disgusting."

At this, his eyes flickered slightly. He raised his hand to massage his temple, looking as if he didn't remember saying such a thing, and pressed her further, "Did I really say that?"

"Yes, absolutely."

"Does Mrs. Sinclair remember every single thing I've said so clearly?"

Lila felt helpless at Alexander's ability to always find such peculiar angles.

She pressed her lips together, suppressing the urge to roll her eyes, and patiently replied, "No, I just remember particularly vicious things that left a strong impression on me."

Alexander cleared his throat lightly and said seriously, "Have I said other vicious things to you?"

Lila's expression remained calm. "Think about it yourself."

He spoke up quickly, "I remember now."

"Remember what?"

"I remember Mrs. Sinclair is no pushover either. You shot back that even if all the men in the world died, you still wouldn't strip naked and stand in front of me."

Lila was equally helpless about Alexander's good memory.

What about what happened after that?

Did he remember?

He had grabbed her by the throat and threatened her. At the time, she thought she was going to die on their wedding registration night. It had frightened her badly.

Thinking back to that moment, Lila couldn't help but compare it to now.

From their registration until now, it had been barely a month, yet Alexander's attitude toward her had done a complete one-eighty. Looking back at this journey, it had actually been quite difficult.

Lila even felt lucky—lucky to have survived this long under Alexander's control unharmed.

As she reminisced about the past, Alexander also recalled his ungentlemanly behavior of grabbing someone by the throat, and his expression became slightly awkward.

After a few seconds, seeing the woman's thoughts had wandered far away, he returned to the question they'd initially been discussing, "So what exactly was Mrs. Sinclair thinking just now when you were staring at me?"

Lila glanced at him, "Does what I'm thinking matter?"

Alexander replied in a low voice, "Since you were thinking it while looking at me, I probably know the answer with ninety percent certainty."

At this point, a hint of a smile appeared at the corner of his mouth as he coaxed her, "You tell me, I'll answer you, and that'll solve your confusion too, right?"

Lila pressed her lips together, "Actually, it's nothing major. I was just wondering what kind of surprise you're planning to give Mr. Morris."

Alexander looked at Lila's puzzled little face and smiled.

"What are you smiling about?"

Alexander gave her a sidelong glance, "Are you afraid I'll do something inappropriate at our joint cooperation reception?"

"No, just purely curious. Because I feel like you..."

Realizing what she was about to say, Lila quickly stopped herself, pressing her red lips tightly together and averting her eyes from Alexander's gaze.

Alexander naturally saw through her hesitation. His hand naturally draped over her shoulder, pulling her into his embrace as he looked down at her, "Because you feel like I what?"

Lila said offhandedly, "Nothing."

She tried to step out of his embrace, but before she could lift her foot, Alexander's slender fingers lifted her chin.

When Lila was forced to look up and meet Alexander's eyes, clear as the sea, she felt his gaze carried a hint of dominance and penetration.

Alexander commanded her with a single word, "Speak."

Intimidated by his tone, she obediently replied, "Because I feel like you've been very bothered by Mr. Morris giving me his business card, and given that you two aren't close, I figured when you said you'd give him a surprise, it probably wasn't anything good."
