Chapter 252

Chapter 252

Alexander stared into her eyes, and after a few seconds of silence, asked , "What, I can't kiss you?"

Lila spoke up, "I didn't say you can't. I just want to know why. According to your rules, now isn't the time for us to kiss."

His eyes darkened.

Why did he want to kiss her?

He just wanted to, so he did. There wasn't any specific reason to kiss her.

But if he had to explain why, it was probably because watching her being so careful in front of him, her mind full of thoughts about escaping, he found it to be really cute.

He always enjoyed seeing Lila's different emotions in front of him—happy, pleased, cautious.

And what he loved most was watching her act like she was about to run away, as if he were some beast that would devour her at any moment.

Just now was like that. Watching her want to dodge and leave the study, his heart stirred for a moment. Uncontrollably from deep inside came the urge to kiss her, to tangle with her lips and tongue.

So he simply followed his heart and did it.

Coming back to his senses, he met Lila's gaze and instead of answering, asked , "Why do you think I kissed you?"

She pressed her lips together, hesitated for a while, but still voiced her inner guess, "Is it because you think I'm pretty? You like me, so you kissed me?"

"Like you?"

He chuckled softly, "Mrs. Sinclair is quite full of herself."

Lila was very dissatisfied with Alexander's denial.

Can't compare to you though.

She didn't say that out loud, and asked him again, "So you don't like me?"

Alexander gave her a vague answer, "When a man wants to kiss a woman, it's definitely not because he dislikes her."

Lila looked confused.

So does that mean he likes me?

She didn't understand why he wouldn't just answer her question directly.

In her view, without a clear answer, people interpret things their own way, which could easily lead to misunderstandings.

Whether she didn't believe Alexander could like her, or felt there was no point in pursuing this answer, Lila didn't ask again.

She yawned and looked at Alexander with a pitiful expression, "Honey, I'm really sleepy. Can I go to bed now?"

"Go ahead."

"Good night, honey."

"We're going to the Sinclair Family Manor this weekend. You remember, right?"

"I remember, to see Grandma."

Alexander acknowledged her reply and waved his hand, signaling her to leave.

Lila left immediately.

Friday.

While Lila was driving Alexander to the office again, she heard his phone ring.

She thought it was just a normal work call and didn't pay attention.

But soon, an unclear, cold laugh escaped Alexander's lips.

Just as Lila was wondering what he meant, she heard Alexander's voice, "Mrs. Sinclair, guess who's calling me?"

She glanced at him while driving, "How would I know?"

Alexander said with heavy sarcasm, "Your admirer, Wesley."

Lila was very exasperated by Alexander's sensitivity.

While checking the rearview mirror, she rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Wesley calling him must be about the business collaboration, right?

What does it have to do with her?

Why did she get the mistaken impression from Alexander's tone that Wesley had called her phone instead?

Alexander watched her drive in silence, then spoke again, "I'm guessing your admirer is calling me to ask about my attitude toward the collaboration. Mrs. Sinclair, tell me, should I agree or should I refuse him?"

Lila wasn't sure what answer Alexander wanted to hear.

She just realized that Alexander was really quite an interesting person.

Why was he asking her about business matters?

Could she make a decision??

Did she understand these things?
