Chapter 239
Alexander looked at her coldly, his expression somewhere between a smile and a sneer. "Mrs. Sinclair, you really are full of surprises."
From his expression, Lila could tell this was definitely not a compliment.
She put on a fake smile and pressed him, "Boss, what do you mean by that?"
"Not only are you good at seducing men, you're also great at brainwashing people. Coming from your mouth, telling me to treat you well somehow gets twisted into me being the good guy. You seem pretty skilled at this kind of manipulation, don't you?"
Lila froze on the spot.
She didn't dare think too much and quickly denied it. "Boss, you're accusing me wrongly."
"Wrongly accusing you?"
After throwing the question back at her, he said with extreme disdain, "Whether I'm wronging you or not—don't you know in your heart?"
She fell silent.
To Alexander, this silence was basically an admission.
He first let out a cold snort, then reached out to turn her chair and sat down gracefully.
Alexander crossed his legs and looked up casually. "We've only been married for half a month, and how many men have I caught telling you they like you? Should I praise Mrs. Sinclair for being so charming that she's collected such a large group of admirers?"
"Before I met you, no one ever confessed to me. I don't know what's been going on lately either."
"So you're saying I'm the one who brought all these flies buzzing around you?"
Lila didn't know how to explain things to an angry Alexander.
That was his interpretation—she never said that.
Alexander spoke again quickly. "You keep finding ways to tell me I should treat you better, but you haven't given me any sense that you're absolutely committed to me. Tell me, should I praise you for being clever, or should I call you stupid?"
Lila guiltily looked away. "I just don't want to be threatened by you. It's not as serious as you're making it sound."
"Threatened by you? Your admirers are everywhere, and as your legal husband, don't I have the right to remind you to keep your distance from them?"
"That's not what I meant."
After weakly saying this, she looked at Alexander and boldly tested the waters. "Boss, are you maybe... jealous?"
His expression changed dramatically, something in his eyes collapsing and shattering.
After several seconds, Alexander came back to himself and asked in disbelief, "What did you say?"
Lila carefully repeated it word by word. "Lots of people like me, you're afraid they'll steal me away, so you're jealous?"
Alexander's blue eyes darkened, revealing complex emotions within. He seemed shocked by her question and assumption, and laughed in anger. "Mrs. Sinclair, where exactly does this confidence of yours come from?"
"From you." Her response came quickly.
After answering, she even smiled fearlessly. "You keep going on and on about my admirers and things like that. Isn't that because you're jealous that people like me?"
He stared at her rather infectious smile, and for some reason, felt an annoyed embarrassment and displeasure.
Seeing Alexander staring straight at her without saying anything, Lila guessed again. "Boss, seriously, you're not actually afraid I'll fall for someone else and get stolen away, are you?"
As soon as these words left her mouth, Alexander suddenly stood up from his chair.
His movement was so abrupt it scared Lila into taking a step back.
But Alexander moved forward, his eyes as blue as the sea staring at her, asking mockingly, "I'm afraid you'll be stolen away?"
After dropping this line with extreme disdain, he sneered coldly, "Lila, have you forgotten your own status?"
