Chapter 227
Lila looked at him in disbelief, her face full of embarrassment, "No, you... stop making wild guesses."
With that, she stepped directly into the elevator.
Even after the elevator doors closed, one question kept buzzing in Lila's mind, Since when did Alexander become so outspoken?
When she reached the first floor, she got off the elevator and went to the front desk to pick up her package.
With the dry weather of late autumn turning into early winter, her lips had been peeling and often felt tight, so she'd just bought a lip balm. What underwear?
Lila took her package and walked back towards the elevator while trying to open it.
She was planning to throw away the box once she got to the elevator, so she was pulling hard at it, but the tape was stuck too tight and wouldn't tear easily.
Lila tugged at the tape with all her might, her feet not stopping, which caused her to bump into someone in her distracted state.
The impact made her stumble back two steps, and she only managed to steady herself when the other person grabbed her arm.
Coming to her senses, Lila saw that she'd bumped into a young man with sharp features. He was wearing a suit and tie, radiating an air of professional excellence.
She pulled her arm away from his hand and quickly apologized, "Sir, I'm so sorry. I was opening my package and wasn't watching where I was going. My apologies..."
The man responded politely, "No harm done."
"Sorry about that."
Lila apologized again, stepped aside, gave him an embarrassed smile, and walked away.
The man stood there, his gaze following her retreating figure with an unreadable expression.
Until she got on the elevator and disappeared from his view.
"Mr. Morris, I've got the documents. Shall we head upstairs?"
"Yeah."
...
The Sinclair Group, top floor.
Lila had just entered the CEO's office, the door barely half-closed, when she heard Alexander speak, "What did you buy? Let me see."
She looked at him speechlessly, "Just a small thing. Boss, why are you so curious?"
"This isn't curiosity."
"If it's not curiosity, what is it?"
Alexander said seriously, "It's a husband's basic concern for his legal wife."
Lila drew out a long "Oh."
But inside, she complained that he was really good at making things up.
Lila knew she couldn't win against him, and besides, what she bought wasn't anything inappropriate that she couldn't show him. So she walked to the desk, opened her palm, and displayed the lip balm she'd bought in front of Alexander.
His eyes landed on her palm for a second before moving to her face, "What is it?"
"Lip balm."
"For your lips?"
She nodded, "Yeah, it's getting cold, my lips are a bit dry, so I bought this to help."
Hearing this, Alexander's lips curved into an ambiguous smile, amusement flickering in his eyes, "To make it feel better when you kiss me?"
Lila's eyes widened immediately, and she asked somewhat speechlessly, "Boss, what goes through your head all day long?"
Alexander chuckled lightly, "What goes through it? Didn't I just ask it out loud?"
She pressed her lips together and explained clearly, "I didn't buy this to kiss you.I use this every winter, most girls do in winter."
"Why are you getting so worked up?"
"I'm not worked up. You misunderstood first, I'm just explaining it to you."
Alexander leaned back in his office chair, watching her with interest.
Lila felt uneasy under his gaze and said, "I'm going back to the lounge."
With that, she turned around. She'd barely taken two steps when Alexander's steady, powerful voice reached her ears.
"Stop!"
