Chapter 210
Lila secretly sneered at Alexander's narcissistic display.
However, after collecting herself, she still looked at him with a smile: "Boss, what if I told you I was just checking whether our photo together looked good? Would you believe me?"
"What do you think?"
Lila had nothing to say.
Just as things were getting awkward, Lila's phone rang.
She glanced over and saw it was a message back from Ethan.
Alexander's gaze first swept across her face as she read the message, then glanced at the screen. His tone was casual as he said, "Open it and take a look."
"I know," Lila said.
She tilted her phone slightly, deliberately avoiding him as she opened the message.
[Lila, you're not lying to me, are you? Is this photo fake? Isn't your boss the CEO of the Sinclair Group? How could you two be married?]
"What did he say?"
"He's asking if the photo is fake."
Alexander felt somewhat helpless about Ethan's persistence too.
He let out a light snort and immediately took the phone from her hand.
Just as Lila was about to say something, Alexander spoke first: "Mrs. Sinclair, you saw it yourself. Ethan has no intention of explaining things clearly to his mother. If we think the worst of it, he might even be using his mother to pressure you into giving in. If you want to resolve this quickly, stop giving me nonsense and just cooperate with me."
She felt he had a point and stopped arguing: "Alright then."
He nodded with satisfaction and reached up to ruffle her hair: "That's a good girl."
Lila felt like he was treating her like a child.
There was really no need to pat her head and throw out a comment like that.
Alexander had already initiated a video call with Ethan.
The other side picked up quickly.
When Ethan's face appeared on the screen, his first expression was one of delight, with an excited smile, but it seemed that when he realized the person on this end wasn't Lila, his smile immediately vanished.
Alexander pulled Lila close by the shoulder, bringing both of them into frame. His cold voice followed: "Ethan, look carefully. Lila is my wife. I'm giving you five minutes to explain things clearly to your mother. Otherwise, I'll cut off your father's funding in the business world. When that time comes, even if you get on your knees and beg me, it'll be too late."
"You?"
"Now you only have four minutes and thirty seconds left."
"What?"
"Four minutes twenty seconds. I hope that after four minutes, Lila will receive a call from your mother saying she knows the truth."
After dropping that final line, Alexander turned sideways, lifted Lila's chin, and pressed his lips against her soft ones. After making sure Ethan on the screen had seen this, he lightly tapped the red dot with his thumb and ended the video call.
But after the video ended, he suddenly found that he didn't want to stop kissing Lila.
Lila's eyes showed surprise at first, but as he continued kissing her, somehow her expression turned shy.
Finally coming to her senses, she quickly pushed him away, avoiding Alexander's gaze and reminding him softly with lowered eyes: "The video's already ended, you don't need to keep kissing."
Alexander's lips curved slightly upward as he stared at her flushed cheeks and stated: "I want to kiss you, not just to show Ethan."
Lila's face reddened again at his direct words.
She felt even more embarrassed.
After a few seconds of silence, once the shyness had faded a bit, Lila forced herself to meet his gaze: "After five minutes are up, if I don't get a call from Ethan's mother, will you really cut off their funding?"
Alexander answered her question with a question: "Why wouldn't I?"
"I thought you were just trying to scare Ethan."
"I always do what I say."
