Chapter 190
"Since you feel so wronged, why don't you tell me - exactly what have I done to mistreat you?"
Lila didn't say anything.
It was true that he defended her in front of Julie.
But afterwards, he also lectured her in private on behalf of his ex-girlfriend's best friend. That was also true.
He was protecting Mrs. Sinclair's dignity, but the one being lectured was Lila herself.
How could she not understand that?
It's just that some things are better left understood in one's heart - once you spell them out, there's no point anymore.
Alexander watched her face scrunch up like a punching bag and pressed on, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"I have nothing to say. Weren't we going home? Why aren't we leaving?"
"Lila..."
Just as he was about to say something, Lila saw Ms. Hill walking over from a distance and called out, "Ms. Hill, what a coincidence."
As she spoke, she shifted to the side, putting distance between herself and Alexander.
When Ms. Hill came over, she looked at Lila with some suspicion, then turned her gaze back to Alexander, her eyes much gentler when looking at him, "Mr. Sinclair, you haven't left yet?"
Alexander responded flatly, "Just waiting for the driver."
Ms. Hill nodded, glanced at Lila, gave her a slight nod as a greeting with a faint smile, then said to Alexander, "Mr. Sinclair, thank you for listening to me ramble on. I'll be going now?"
"Alright, Ms. Hill, drive carefully."
"I will."
Before leaving, Ms. Hill politely nodded to Lila again.
Lila smiled faintly.
In Ms. Hill's eyes, she was probably just a driver, right? But Ms. Hill didn't look down on drivers at all - she kept greeting her. Ms. Hill was really a nice person.
Such an excellent and gentle Ms. Hill had fallen for Alexander, who already had someone in his heart.
What a shame.
As Lila watched her get in the car and leave, thinking about what she'd just said to Alexander "thank you for listening to me ramble on" she suddenly wondered what that rambling was about.
Could she have confessed her feelings?
That would take a lot of courage - quite admirable.
While Lila's thoughts were still wandering, Alexander opened the passenger door, grabbed her, and stuffed her inside.
She frowned and looked at him.
"What are you looking at? Put on your seatbelt, we're going home."
"Got it."
She lowered her head, pulled the seatbelt across and fastened it. Alexander closed the car door, then walked around the front of the car to the driver's seat, started the engine, and drove off.
At first, the car was very quiet.
After passing through several traffic lights, Alexander's voice suddenly broke the silence, "Do you know what Ms. Hill said to me today?"
Lila responded flatly, "No idea."
He asked again, "Want to hear about it?"
Her almond-shaped eyes flickered - she was actually a bit curious.
But thinking about how Alexander had just put her down, she didn't feel like communicating with him anymore.
So she tossed out two words flatly, "Not really."
Alexander's expression changed slightly, his eyes looking at her with displeasure, "Lila, I'm your husband. Don't you care about my affairs at all?"
Lila had a slight smile on her face and instead of answering, asked back, "What's the point of me caring? We're getting divorced soon anyway. We're not going to spend our whole lives together, so it's best if you don't worry about me and I don't worry about you. That way we can both leave with dignity when the time comes and let everything go easily."
Hearing her words, Alexander's anger flared up.
His sharp voice carried a threatening tone, "If I find out again that your head is full of thoughts about divorce, watch out. To get back at you, I'll tell Grandma after a year that I've fallen in love with you and I won't get divorced."
Her face instantly tensed up, and she blurted out, "Are you crazy?"
