Chapter 188
Lila saw that someone had grabbed Julie and felt relieved.
But then she immediately wondered. Why was she hiding?
She should have gone right up to her and had it out with her properly!
With both her and Elara there, why should they be afraid of just one person?
Lila regretted showing weakness just now and was about to mock Julie a bit, but when she turned her head, she saw that the person who had grabbed Julie and shoved her aside was actually Alexander!
Oh my God!
When did he get here?
How much of what she just said did he hear?
Did he hear the part about desperately begging her to have his baby?
She was done for. That was the last thing she said, he must have heard it!
Lila's fighting stance instantly disappeared. She stood there looking small, pitiful, and helpless, becoming anxious and uneasy.
Even when Alexander glanced over at her, she didn't dare meet his eyes.
Julie was obviously startled too. Not only did her earlier pride and smugness vanish, but even her voice lost its confidence when she spoke, "Mr. Sinclair, what are you doing here?"
Alexander didn't answer.
Instead, his questioning tone was full of anger, "You dare to lay a hand on her. Where do you get the nerve?"
"I was just joking around, I didn't really mean anything by it. Besides, Lila splashed me first. Look, my clothes are all wet from what she did. And she said you were begging her to have your baby. I was so upset that she was slandering you like that, I just wanted to joke around and scare her a little. She also said that by the time Celeste comes back, your kids will be old enough to go shopping on their own. Mr. Sinclair, last time you clearly said..."
"What happens between her and me is none of your business."
With that, Alexander turned back and pulled Lila over, wrapping his arm around her waist. Standing together in an intimate pose, he stared at Julie with a cold warning, "Listen carefully. Don't give her any more trouble from now on. Otherwise, I'll send you right back to work at the Velvet Lounge. Whether it's selling drinks or entertaining customers, you'll never get out again!"
Julie had never heard Alexander speak to her so harshly. For a moment, her eyes turned red.
Why was this happening?
Didn't Mr. Sinclair like Celeste?
She was Celeste's friend.
If he treated her like this, how would he explain it to Celeste later?
Despite her doubts and resentment, Julie could only answer in a low voice, "I understand, Mr. Sinclair."
Alexander paid her no more attention and turned back to stare at Lila.
Lila hadn't expected that after Julie twisted the story, he would stand up for her without hesitation.
But now, as he looked at her with an unreadable expression, she instinctively thought he was going to settle accounts with her. She immediately avoided his gaze and quickly lowered her head.
Soon, Alexander's voice came from above, "Are you full?"
Are you full?
That's it?
Why did Lila feel like Alexander's tone was a bit gentle, a bit indulgent even, and definitely less sharp than when he'd just warned Julie?
She looked up at him and nodded repeatedly, "Yes, I'm full."
Looking at her obedient appearance now, and thinking back to how smoothly she'd splashed Julie with that cup earlier, Alexander suddenly couldn't tell which one was the real Lila.
He answered with refined composure, "Then let's go home."
Only then did Lila remember tonight's situation.
She had come out to eat with a friend!
She should leave with her friend, right?
Lila instinctively looked toward Elara, who was very tactful and waved at Lila with a smile, "Lila, you go ahead. We'll meet up again another time?"
"Okay, bye Elara."
"Bye."
Just like that, Lila was led out of the restaurant by Alexander with his arm around her, and then out of the mall.
He brought her to his car, pressed her against the vehicle, and looked down at her from above. The curve of his lips carried a hint of mischief, "Lila, do you remember what you just said to Julie?"
